Warning: 1.05 Broke All My Saves!
SirKnightTG replied to jasonnoguchi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If loading older saved games is not something that's going to be supported by newer versions, then the game should throw up a OK dialog box saying this save is not supported by this version of the game. Instead, the game will try to load it anyway but crash to the desktop. That's VERY poor form and unacceptable. As a software engineer, I just shake my head at this and many other issues. This is the only game I know of that will do this. Hell, even 10+ year old games that don't support old saves will not do this. I hate to be completely negative, but this is honestly the most fragile software application I've ever used. It has a lot of great potential and offers a lot of things other games can not, but it's about as stable as a stack of BB's. -
Same for me. Not a single person could hit the broad side of a barn, even at point blank. I also saw some sort of dirt pile or something, it was hard to tell, that was just floating in mid air with an enemy guy stuck in it with only his head and gun sticking out. lol!

LOL @ you BIS fan boys. Holy shit. Why is it so hard to believe that someone else beside BIS can make a game that's realistic? I don't expect OFP2 to be a super hardcore military sim, that's VBS and should stay for the military. OFP2 is a GAME. So compromises must be made to make it fun. You want real? Join the damn military. I for one will accept some amount of non-realism for fun. I don't like the CoD style of gameplay but you'd have to be a complete idiot to think OFP2 is anything like that. After all the interviews, previews and such it has been proven it's not another arcade shooter. I swear some of you guys here are just morons that can't see the forest for the trees. Plus, ArmA 2 is not all 100% realistic anyway. There's A LOT of things done that's incorrect or done for the sake of gameplay. Holy f**k.

Now we know why the chicken crossed the road. It was because a tank was hauling ass after it! ;) Perhaps your guy was associated with PETA. He's like, to hell with the people, run them over with a tank without even thinking....BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T HARM THE ANIMALS!!!! :)

ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .

Oh FFS! :/ -
I hate the floating zone. It's not at all realistic if it's being used for aiming, unless there actually existed some 3d holographic technology that would project a cross-hair in thin air in front of you. We're not there yet so this feature is pointless from a realism stand point. But of course, this is a game so compromises need to be and has been made to make it fun. I just wish I could turn it off in OFP. But I guess not.

Love the models in this game, but...
SirKnightTG replied to Windexglow's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
windex is totally right. For a game that's being sold at a AAA price point, it sure as hell doesn't look and even play like one (the stupid bugs that's been here since ArmA or OFP and the poor implementation of damn near EVERYTHING in this game). You BIS fanbois need to get a clue. You keep accepting crap, that's what you'll get. -
What the hell is vista xp? Never heard of that edition...LOL! :)

oyman, don't let PETA see that video! ;) All that beef... That's either A LOT of hamburgers or one HUGE hamburger. The next step is finding enough cheese for all that. :D

Ever hear of Operation Flashpoint: Elite? ArmA 2 is no more complex than OFP was.

Is there a way to let the bots squadlead?
SirKnightTG replied to CidCaldensfey's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I liked the command interface in SWAT 4 and I always thought OFP/ArmA1/2 would be better off with a system like that. In SWAT 3, they had a command interface VERY similar to OFP/ArmA but they refined it in SWAT 4 to be just as effective but MUCH easier to use (although you still had the option of going back to the old way if you want). It's also context sensitive depending on where your looking at so you can give "one click" orders. To those that have never played SWAT 4, go download the demo to see what I'm talking about. Not that this matters here (fanbois can skip this sentence), but from what I can tell from gameplay videos it looks like OFP: DR will have a command interface similar to SWAT 4. I agree with you on the AI issue too. It's quite amazing how freaking dumb the AI is in Arma 2 most of the time. I prefer single player myself and it's a shame we have to deal with such retarded AI. -
I didn't survive...LOL. I swear this game...

You get head shot by an invisible sniper (he must have that suit from Crysis in stealth mode) or if you're in a vehicle an invisible RPG soldier. In this mission, you die. Awesome huh? :)

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
SirKnightTG replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
DX11 has jack shit to do with it. This game is DX9. Each API is its own and has their own DLLs. Just b/c a certain OS may support some new 3D API doesn't mean all games suddenly use that API. That's not how it works. I play this game with Windows 7 64bit and 6GB of ram and it works fine. No crashes and I run a mix of Normal/High/Very High settings at 2500 vis and 1680 res. I get around 30 fps most of the time. -
He couldn't take this game's bugs anymore so he decided to end it once and for all. :D
-
That's not a problem at all. I put mine under Missions/OFP and it works fine. Doing this has always worked with BIS's games. ---------- Post added at 04:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:10 AM ---------- I get that error as well. I also got it in the main campaign. Another issue I've had with these OFP missions is I get a pop-up in the mission list about some image can't be found.

Porting ArmA1 addons to ArmA2
SirKnightTG replied to bugkill's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Has anyone been able to get CWR working in ArmA 2? I tried copying it over but got several errors. -
I don't know if this is a bug or a feature (pretty strange one if so) but I created an OFP folder under Missions and put W0lle's OFP themed missions in there. These are great missions by the way. Anyway, when I went to the OFP folder in game (under Singleplayer->Scenarios), it of course listed the missions I put in there but it also listed the SP missions that came with the game (the ones that start with 01:, 02:, etc...). I don't think this is right. It should only list the missions I stuck in that folder and only show the official SP missions in the root folder (Scenarios). This isn't a deal breaker of course but still kind of annoying when trying to organize things.

In one of the early campaign missions one of the soldiers, instead of saying "chedaki," he actually spelled out the letters ChDKZ. LOL! I was like WTF? Those voice actors...LOL! :) At least it adds some comedy to the game, even though it wasn't intentional. ;)
-
I hope this isn't a dup. I looked around but didn't see anything. In the change-list for 1.02, it says "Swimming soldiers no longer drop inventory items." Uh right. I have 1.02 (STEAM) and I was just messing around in the editor and after a few seconds of swimming, I'd lose all my stuff. Weapons, everything. It happened over and over every single time. There was no special "trick" to make it happen. Just go in the water no matter where you are and poof. So I guess we can expect it to really be fixed in 1.03? ;) It would be cool to see this fixed in ArmA 1 as well.
-
Really? Hmm, it seemed "ok" perf wise most of the time. I'll tweak more in the settings. Maybe I'm being too quick to judge. ;) Granted I only had limited time last night when I played.
-
So I just got ArmA II from STEAM and I noticed there something really strange about the player movement. When you press a key to make him walk forward for example, it takes at least 1.5 to 2 seconds before the player actually starts moving. WTF? What is the point of that? There's no way that makes the player control more realistic b/c it doesn't. I know in RL when I want to walk forward, I instantly start walking I don't sit there and think about it for 2 seconds before I start moving. :j: I don't understand why BIS would make the player movement so sluggish. Realistic != sluggish. It's like the guy you play is always standing knee deep in pudding. I've always had issue with the player control in BIS's games but this is just stupid IMO. I don't mean to sound harsh towards BIS b/c this game has a lot of potential, but really...

Is there a way to export the Sahrani island as a heightmap file for editing? I know I can use various tools to create my own island, and that's great, but I want to edit Sahrani. I've searched for a while and I can't seem to find much. Also, what's the name of the sahrani map and where is it? I was searching in some of the PBOs and I can't find it. Of course, I have no idea what I'm looking for as I'm REALLY new to ArmA/OFP editing.
