    ArmA2 8GB RAM Problem

All I can say is F*CK YEAH! Great work BIS!
  2. That's not quite true - I remember one firefight in Afghanistan where one of my friends tried to shoot an HE round from his M203A1 grenadelauncher over a dried out riverbed - it exploded on impact with the tree line on the other side. Video proof is here: you can just make out the explosion in the tree line at around 0:41 - 0:42

    f12 question trakerIR

I have two thumb buttons on the left side of my Razer Lachesis mouse - one for PTT over teamspeak, the other for centering TrackIr. Doesn't get much easier than that! :dancehead:

RL RPG unit, always using shaped charge?

Mr Centipede: I do believe that it's a part of their mentality "down/over there" - the man with the biggest gun reigns supreme, it doesn't matter if it's suited for the task, their ideology is "the bigger the better". I do recall several Iraqi kids referring to me as "Rambo" and "Mujahideen" because of my role as light machinegunner I would carry the German MG3 and I'm about 6'6" (197cm) tall and (used to) weigh 231 lbs (105 kg) :-D

RL RPG unit, always using shaped charge?

I can tell from my two tours in Iraq and one tour in Helmand, Afghanistan as an infantryman that the insurgents/taleban pretty much used whatever they could get their hands on - I've never encountered the dual AT warhead though, only the standard AT round (Only round I saw in Iraq) and the "infantry" round (I honestly don't remember the names for these rounds) capable of air-burst. It would take a direct hit to kill someone with an AT round - just like the standard M136 AT-4 is useless against personel, so is the russian equivalent. Funny thing though is that both the Iraqi army and ANA (Afghan National Army) seem to like guarding prisoners with their RPG's - It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen :) One thing the taleban was rather fond of using in our AO was their "almighty" B-10 Recoilles rifle which they talked alot about over I-COM (The taleban use motorola 2-way radios to communicate) and loved to bring out when the battle was raging. I remember one firefight where we were being shot at from several directions. I was down in a small ditch with the rest of 1 Section (I was in fire-support team, light machinegunner) and I duck down to reload my weapon, when I just happened to look over to the left the taleban fired the B-10 and hit right beside the guy on the far left - he was completely gone from all the smoke and debris, and anyone who saw it thought he'd been blown to pieces! When the dust started to lay off a bit he came running out of the big debris cloud at full speed under enemy fire, trying to get to cover behind us - he was only slightly injured in the left arm and continued his tour of duty - talk about being lucky! :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-10_recoilless_rifle

    Arma 1.03 reduces bandwidth?

Me and my friend are having the exact same problem on our pc's over the net - not that it's totally unplayable but my friend seems to time out from time to time because of that, especially if I'm hosting and I'm on a 10/20mbit line with all needed ports open. On 1.02 it's fine for me, my friend has the steam version so he can't go back and test it but he says it used to be better before the game was updated through steam.

Securom is killin my DVD drive

Has it ever occured that your boot options might be set to boot on the DVD-drive first? Go into BIOS and see if that's the case - I've never had a problem with securom or any other anti-piracy DVD protection.

    cold war back

Ghost recon = Different game = Different engine = Different possibilities. There are certain limitations within the game engine itself which prevents BIS from creating huge cities.

I Need help with Arma 2

McJaffa: Not quite true about the XP/Vista/Win7 statement there - for some apparent reason ArmA 2 runs WORSE for me under Win7 x64 than under Vista x64 - with ArmA 1 it's the same, although I don't have stuttering in the menus anymore under Win7 :-P Das Schakal: As has been previously mentioned your graphics card is not quite up to the task of running ArmA 2 properly, it might help to upgrade but then your CPU/RAM will be your next bottleneck.

    favourite gun?

Preferably an M4 with ironsights or the M249 (Ingame) In real life I'd much rather stick with the German MG3 and an ELCAN sight - you just gotta love that sound it makes in the morning :-P
  11. Question: "How closely do you think ArmA simulates real combat?" Answer: About as closely as an egg simulates an electric guitar! As has been previously mentioned this is a game - sure you do fire a 3d model of a rifle, drive a 3d model of a HMMWV and get shot at with 3d bullets, but it's nowhere near the real deal. Of course SOME aspects are simulated, but to a very limited extent I must say. Yes this is a combat "simulator" but in no way does it par with the real deal - I for one should know, what with two tours in Iraq and one tour in Helmand, Afghanistan as an infantryman :-D One thing that does impress me though is the sound of bullets cracking over your head as you're being shot at, that's nicely done.
