    Can't save settings or games

Is your My Documents out on the network, instead of the local machine? The demo (the US demo, 1.06) is doing this exact same thing for me (and the original demo did the same thing as well). The game looked promising when I played it for 10 minutes this morning, but the interface for changing the keyboard settings is so cumbersome I don't want to go through that again to try it out (and the default keys, while industry standard WASD, just don't work for me, since I've always used ESDF instead since Doom/Quake). I guess I'll download and try at home. I do wish the keyboard settings were easier to change, regardless of this issue I'm having. Bohemia makes great games, but makes horrible keyboard setting interfaces (sorry, guys! ) . Also, as an aside on a different topic, it loads into my second monitor for some bizarre reason; the original demo did this same thing, too. Bob.

    Demo Troubleshooting thread.

Custom Control Settings Lost!!! I've tried several times to customize my keyboard/mouse settings, but each time I shut down the game, I lose those settings and they revert to the default; other settings, like video, seem to stay put (I think, but I'll have to verify that). This is especially annoying as 1) I change about 50% or more of the controls to something better and 2) ArmA has as bad of a control setting interface as OpFlash, which was the worst ever sorry to say; in fact, the new interface may be worse, if that's possible. BIG fan of OpFlash, and ArmA looks really good from what I can tell, but it's highly annoying to have to reset the keys each time I play (especially since the last time I did, it crashed to desktop, and here I am). Is there a text file I can modify and save off somewhere else, than I can just copy in each time before I start the game? Or some other fix? Erg. Bob.

    Demo today....WOOT

You know, bandwidth ain't free. I think FilePlanet is a pretty nifty deal, in that it helps keep the cost of games down while still allowing free downloads of game demos and patches. Sure, occasionally only paid subscribers get certain things first, or get to participate in betas, or whatever, but that's fine by me - they're PAID subscribers. And I get to download stuff for free by just waiting a bit longer... I mean, we've waited almost two (or has it been longer) years since first hearing about ArmA, we can wait another 24 hours for the demo I think And, had I looked, I would have noticed that FilePlanet has the demo available; so the point is moot anyway! I've got it downloading from somewhere in the Netherlands, and I'm in a 20 minute wait in the queue at FilePlanet - who's download will "win"? Definitely a great Christmas gift, thanks BIS!!!

Also also wik, someone should update the first post of this thread, to include info on the demo coming out today, hopefully with some non-fileplanet links (Or, a fileplanet link for non-paid subscribers will do...) Bob.

When you say "playing full english version," do you mean that all menus AND audio are in English? Also, someone should update the first post of this thread, to include info on Sprocket.

    ArmA Photography

You should take a picture of yourself in real life and post it, for comparison. Either way, the face texturing looks great, really.

Yeah, pretty strange. There is still not even "PC" as a platform choice in the "Games By Platform" dropdown. I mean, couldn't they be bothered to create at least a 'info coming soon' page for ArmA? VERY strange. Bob.

    Faces / Uniforms

My gosh - who can forget that interface? Or, more specifically, the phrase that your chosen voice parameters are tested with? "I SAY AGAIN!" That phrase will haunt me until the day I die. "I SAY AGAIN!" Too funny. Bob.

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

It just occurred to me that, being American, that I was reading the dates wrong. For my fellow Americans, here are the "Americanized" dates. EU&others 505 Games q1 2007 (See "Countries included on 505 distribution" section) Austria Morphicon 11/30/06 Czech Republic BIS&JRC&CQE 11/10/06 Germany Morphicon 11/30/06 Poland Lem 11/10/06 Russia Akella 11/28/06 Switzerland Morphicon 11/30/06 Slovakia BIS&JRC&CQE 11/10/06 Not that any of them make much difference for us, since there's no American publisher (yet... at least I hope that is the operative word).

    Faces / Uniforms

The word is yes on faces, not sure on uniforms. If I'm wrong someone will point it out. With OpFlash, you could mod the faces relatively easily, as you suggest, but new camo and other clothing required more sophisticated modding efforts. My /guess/ is that ArmA will be similar. I lucked out with the faces in OpFlash, in that "Peter S" looks almost identically like me, to the point that a friend of mine cracks up laughing every time he sees me in multiplayer. Hopefully I luck out in a similar way in ArmA and "Peter S" is again used as a model...

Textures and Models need major overhaul !!!

Have you seen the latest high quality video they've released, in their announcement of 505 Games being the UK distributor? If not, download it in this .rar archive here (it's about 80MB). ftp://www.flashpoint1985.com/ArmA/Arma_PR_505.rar Maybe I'm missing something, but based on that promotional movie I think it looks absolutely GORGEOUS. I disagree. Let's say that ArmA doesn't quite have the visual sophistication of Battlefield 2/2142 or Quake Wars. So what? With Operation Flashpoint, the graphical look of the game was not its strong point. It was good for its time, but compared to other games that had come out at about that same time it didn't have the "crispness" of those other games (now, this wasn't because the guys at BI were less skilled, but I assumed they had to make compromises in visual quality to allow for the large island mission areas). Take Quake III or even Unreal, for example, both of which had come out a few years earlier, if I'm not mistaken. The had very pretty visuals compared to OpFlash; if that was your thing, then you certainly had outlets for "pretty" games. However, what OpFlash may have lacked in "beauty" it MORE than made up for in gameplay, expansive game areas and immersion. Playing Quake III or Unreal you found yourself in "arenas," restrictive hallway environments that made replaying the game fairly repetitive. With OpFlash's "go anywhere, do anything" environments, on the other hand, replaying the various missions seemed much more rewarding. Not to mention the "edit on the fly" multiplayer editor, the real world weapons and vehicles, the ability to chose different character faces (a feature that none of the competition that I know of yet has), etc. - and given these innovative features it totally blew away the competition and created a new genre in gaming - the military shooter. Now, several years later, Battlefield and other BF clones (Quake Wars, SW Battlefront) have built upon the success and innovations of OpFlash (BF would likely never have been created without OpFlash's "Sector Control" missions!. However, given everything I've seen and heard, the guys at BI are about to rock our world again with innovative gameplay, instead of worrying about making a "pretty" game. Just my $0.02 Bob.

    shooting while running?

Have you ever fired a rifle? A bb gun? If not, go buy a toy gun or something, and try running while aiming it at something in front of you. You'll find that it's useless to even try, even if you're sprinting. Now, fast walking or walking, you can /somewhat/ aim, but even then, aiming accuracy is reduced. OFP and, presumably, ArmA take all this into consideration. Note also, the whole "shoot from the hip" thing is bogus. Only Rambo can do that. Oh, and you also mentioned that BIS didn't take realism into consideration here? Remember, ArmA is based on the improvements made to OFP not only in the XBox version (OFP Elite), but also in the game they made (VBS1) for the US Marines and other militaries... they've probably put a /little/ thought into it...

Any other (ex) Battlefield 2 players?

As fans of the game and of BI Studios, we should promote the game as much as we can, and hope BI sells a boat load of copies. Otherwise, they may not be around to release Game 2... But I get what you're saying

Any other (ex) Battlefield 2 players?

I played OFP for many years with friends. We've played the BF series with other friends more recently. And even more recently, in anticipation of ArmA, a few of us have dusted off our OFP cd's and found that despite the older graphics OFP /still/ stands up to the test of time - what a great game!!! Indeed, I think I've decided to skip BF 2142 and just wait for ArmA. 2142 neat and all (the Demo plays out pretty well); it's definitely nice looking, and nd fairly well thought out, but really it's just more of the same BF formula. Capture the flag. Lose the flag. Rinse. Repeat. Generally, both games have their place for me. BF games are great you just want to jump into a game and blow stuff up. OFP and, presumably, ArmA, hold a different place for me, in that they are much more immersive, more like you're there and part of the game. Neither is necessarily better, just different - individual tastes determine the better of the two. That being said, the BF series is a juggernaught, and here's hoping ArmA attracks a few million sales from EA here pretty soon!!! When BIStudios go live with their downloadable version, I for one will be as close to first in line as possible... Bob.
