  1. Dear Community

To All who have noticed our website/forums/host has taken a turn for the worst, and will be down until further notice.

We are not sure what the problem is, nor how long it will take to be fixed.

Any questions, feel free to let me know.

We are also gathering a small selection of news items to show in a few days or so.

    Stay tuned smile_o.gif

  2. This looks like a great idea, and just shows what the ofp engine can do for all minds and emaginations.

    A small suggestion

Would it be better to perhaps make your own story based upon this island? As following a certain story line and items force you to base it on that alone. Have you seen the TV series "Lost"?

I think making something up along those lines might be more interesting, as there are only x amount of people would play a "cast away" based them, because of the fact you are own your own, and it could get a bit tedious.

Perhaps include a very large role play based theme, allowing interaction with other people who happen to be on the island?

Depends how far you want to take it, and what you want the final product to be.

But it would be nice to play, something refreshing, and just because ofp is a war sim, doesn't mean the engine isnt.

Have you also thought about using or making new ground textures to make if feel more lush? As the BIS textures are very bland. There was also a nice object pack i found a while back, not sure who made it, but it could be perfect for your needs.

    Anyway good luck smile_o.gif

  3. Hello All

I tried to search for a similar topic, but from what i could see nothing really anything in conjunction with the problem i am having.

We have a dedicated server, running ofp resistance 1.96 + ECP.

Now we used to have a dedi server with pulse gaming, but after many months we where forced to close the account with them due to server funds being rather high. But we never had any problems with them.

Moving on from that, we have recently moved to a new server host. The server it self is fine, bandwidth and pings are good, and everything else that you could expect from a dedi server.

The problem is that, when ever we (10+) people try and load a map, the server cant seem to process the map. We get to the receiving data screen, and after about 3 or 4 mins, everyone gets kicked off the server, with the following error

    "Connection lost to "players name"

I have tried over and over again to try and narrow down the problem, but i am at the end of the road, and have no idea what the cause of this problem is.

Now, the strange thing is, the map does load after at least 5+ restarts, so it cannot be a addon problem, nor a Map problem, as the server can load it eventually.

So i ask anyone out there who has any experience with this problem, or has any info at all that might help me fix this problem i would be more than grateful to know.

    Thankyou very much

  4. Sounds like a good idea, but with no disrespect to you or any other mod members, i think people "underestimate" the term "MOD", from what you have said, i cant see it being a mod, more of a collection of addons. Do you plan to edit the "game play"? Do you plan to edit the 1.96 game play and revamp it with scripts, anims, and visual effects?

As thats what i see a "mod" as , its a team, dedicated to making a new "gameplay" experience, and changing everything from the ground up to acheive mod status?

Again i don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone out there in the ofp community, but if your going to declare that you are going to make a mod, you must be 100% dedicated, as time and time again i have seen "news" about new mod teams starting up, and then never hearing from then again. Just make sure you have the time to "deliver" what you have suggested.

But then again, what do i know?, we are all here because we "want" to do this, so no one is stopping you apart from yourself and the willingness to learn smile_o.gif

    Good luck

  5. ps:

when i use Wilbur i can't save and reopen it to work on i can re open bit all the tool go tottaly wacky i simply don't have the time needed to go threw this mabe someone can make me the terrain and i can edit it in WRP if needed...

i learned how to place roads buildings etc.. and over all setting up WRP Edit Wilbur just don't work at all for me raising ground is impossable 1 click = moutains a mile high and yes ive set up the setting no matter what setting i used banghead.gif

Save your work as a MDR file format, you will be able to reopen it at a later stage and carry on working in Wilbur

If you want low level rolling terrain, set your elevation value in Wilbur to around 7-8. Use the surface area tool to get a larger or small elevation area size, and once done, blur the whole island, save it as a text mesh "lon/lat" and you should be sorted.

  6. Not sure if this is of any help, but i went through a lot of extensive testing with the land rovers for MP play, as a single land rover with BIS troops cause lag.

We spoke a while back about it messiah, and i decided to delete the steering wheel anims and scripts. But that was not the answer, we still got lag on the server, still running bis.

As UNN said, it could be the sound? or a dodgy code in the scripts?

I spoke to munk the other day and he mentioned something about the reverse lights causing lag also.

I really do hope you get the prob sorted, as we are forced to use BWmod vehicles as a replacement until the land rover problem is fixed.

Im sure you can do MP testing with vcb, but i would be happy to try and resolve the situation also.

  7. Thanks for the comments lads

From what i can gather, 3 versions might be in order

1.) "Naked" version for MP and 5000m view distance

2.) A Bis standard version using 1.46/1.96 Objects and textures

3.) A Custom version with detailed terrain, grass, hedges, roads ec ect, including custom ground textures.

Thats not a problem. Due to scale of this project i can only work on this when i have the time, im not going to set any deadlines ect, but i will update this thred as much as i can.

The island will include the race circuit as it will have all road networks as standard as in real life. And new road textures.

Does anyone in fact live in the isle of man just out of curiosity, i would be happy to hear any information that you might be able to offer, i have a lot of high res pics of the area, and also used google earth to get a good understanding on the "weathering" so the ground textures will be realistic and not just a carpet of green.

BAM, if you can provide any info/pics that would be great!, i know you made a UK objects pack a while back, might be a idea to allow me to include them perhaps?

And anyone who has any modeling skills, and fancies modeling a few items for this island would go down a treat. Would speed things up most definitely.

Anyway im away to start on this puppy, should have some screens in a few days.

    Thanks chaps

  8. Thanks for the comments chaps, i do like the idea of a "naked" version, or perhaps a version With a very limited selection of objects for those people Who like their long range tank battles. However, i am not really sure the terrain Would be adequate for tanks, as the it is very very hilly , and in Game some of those hills range to 300-600 feet, you dont notice it in the pics, because the terran is "flowing" like how real terrain should look.

Regarding the nature packs, Good idea, i Will check out the ones available and do some comparisons, to acquire a realistic looking foliage system that looks good and is also cpu friendley.

I did (in case you Where Wondering) plan to populate the island, but i just anted to get a idea about its popularity With a bare version.

The terrain Would be perfect for either CO op clans or SP, Looking to train in realistic terrain environments, a lot of tabbing, and use of a realistic road network to get around the place.

I Will do some tests With the new foliage and post some piccys later today.

  9. I decided to convert a old Dem i had laying around. I have just applied a basic texture over the terrain, but the reason for this post is more of a feedback approach. How many of the community members would be interested in such a island for ofp? Im not trying to gain any fame or anything, just really need a idea if it would be worth me carrying on this project if people would like/use the island for either missions, or just to explore.

The island itself is to scale of the real thing, as its a dem created island. I might also consider making some custom objects for the island if the you all would like to see this in game, most importantly it will include the MAXTT

Anyway any feed back is welcome to get a general idea of the popularity of the terrain area. A few pics below to show you the terrain.

    Many thanks

  10. Hi

I can assure you that the missions/campaign will not just consist of a 2min shoot-out.

The mission planing is one of the most important development aspects of the mod. And it wont/hasn't been overlooked.

All i can say is the missions and campaign story that will be included will allow for a new "game play" experience never seen in any other game or ofp for that matter.

Btw this is infact a very old thread. Please use the latest thread located at the bottom.

  11. I would like to introduce the following to the community.

    1.) Sontonagh District (pbo)

    sontonaghdistrict23pj.jpg

(thanks to da12thmonkey for the pic smile_o.gif )

" Sontonagh District is a artists impression of a typical countryside representing the Irish landscape"

2.) A WRP file of a very detailed and elevated terrain environment

"In the beginning this was going to be the main "Northern Ireland" landscape for the NIMOD. But recent events have changed that. The WRP is based on a real dem of a area of Northern Ireland, this is purely for islands editors who are finding it hard to make a decent looking terrain height/s, and yet have it large enough to allow different areas of interest. The WRP is free for anyone to use and edit, and release in the future.

Other than that thats about it, not sure if anyone will use them, but its available non the less.

  12. Gnat @ Dec. 19 2005,15:52)]Not sure if its been asked already, but can your (new smile_o.gif ) cloud models cast shadows ?

This would be a perfect addition, ground shadows across the landscape, great for both combat and pictures biggrin_o.gif

Possibility not good for the frame rate but for shadows that large ..... whistle.gif

    Hi

As far as i know, you cannot, as the clouds are not real p3d models, they are particles using the drop command. But we will look into it smile_o.gif

  13. NIMOD VOICE ACTORS REQUIRED FOR AUDITIONS!

Yes that's right, we are on the look out for some new voice actors for our replacement sound pack that will be replacing the standard BIS sounds, and also voice overs for our dynamic AI system.

As you know, we are more than just a mod with a collection of addons. We are to here to supply a new game-play experience unique to ofp and any other game.

So this is what we ask of you who have a interest in this project. We are on the look out for "British (any part of the UK), Irish and Northern Irish" members who would be willing to record their own voice to include into the mod for its final release.

    Requirements

1.) At least 18 + Years of Age (or at least sound over 18)

    2.) Have reasonable quality microphone

3.) Must be British or Irish/Northern Irish nationality

4.) Must be willing to be dedicated to finishing the voice overs for the mod.

So if you are reading this, and you fit all the above than please get in contact with either me or any of the mod team members. Once we receive any contact information we will then talk individuality to each person and sort them out with a required list of recordings to record.

Thanks for reading this, and hope to hear from you all soon.

Any news sites who see this, would it be to much trouble to ask for you to put it up on your main page/s as we would like to try and get this around so all community members are able to view this, as the above criteria is only aiming at a select few of the community.

  14. We are pleased to publicly show some more WIP work, here you will find the "Land rover APV" (armored patrol vehicle), textured and modeled by are talented vehicle modeler "SniperUk"

The Land Rover APV also knows as the "Piglet" was developed for use in Northern Ireland, giving better protection to the troops travelling in it from bullets and bomb splinters and any other hazards that might of come in their general direction.

It is based on the standard Land Rover chassis of the time (3 series), with additions of 'Macralon Armour', a composite material which provided additional protection for the vehicle and troops inside.

The APV was a common sight in Northern Ireland, due to its more durable protection and speeds. The RUC also adapted the APV for police vehicles, using them to keep control over the streets of Northern Ireland.

This is just a small selection of the land rovers we have in production, and we will be showing more WIP shots soon, but for now, we thought you might all be interested in this unique vehicle.

The textures and model/s are not "final" and are subject to change on the final release of the MOD.

Plans are to also create "damaged" models, and also a "interactive model and damage system" that allows "certain" things to come apart or become destroyed" due to certain events that "should/could" happen during the streets of Northern Ireland.
