    Lost-World Returns

Dear community / BIS Online petition thanks to Matt Rochelle http://www.gopetition.co.uk/online/14982.html Lost World Returns has an urgent problem, and we would like to address the situation. With over a year spent in development, with most of our content being created behind the scenes, we all have spent a lot time and money on this project and we have now hit a large wall, or rather a HUGE MOUNTAIN. We would like to try and rally up some support from the community and ask BIS one last time for their help and support. With the release of the community tools most of the mods where able to start porting or developing content for Arma, with little problems. Unfortunately we had a different story, and we were relying on BIS to release their animation tool that allows exportation of smoothed skinned data form a model from Maya into o2, this tool would allow us to import Maya created animations without doing the impossible job of rigging and setting up the weights in o2. We are fully aware BIS has such a tool, as the animations you see in-game where created using the exact method from their motion capture studio. With talks and emails arranged, we have still not heard anything back for over two months, not even a confirmation email acknowledging our issue. So it leave us no choice as a “team†to try and get some public support on the matter, and if by the end of the month we have still not heard anything we will have to consider developing our content for another engine. By no means are we in position to start demanding information or software, but we would like to hear a response, out of respect and curiosity and from a professional stand point of view that BIS represents in their company. If BIS are reluctant to reply, unfortunately we will be packing our bags and moving to another engine, not because of choice, but because of future development. We have produced too much material to drop it all. And we are more than willing to take a step back, in order to take many steps forward again in the future. I hope everyone understands our position and the next week will prove to be the most important. Our dinosaurs have been crying out for this animation technology and we really need to support them. If any news sites that would be willing to help spread the word, that would be great. Thank you for reading and support Nick Edit: I switched page, more impact on fresh page Â

That’s all down to the design plan of the game; you might find more open sparse game play mods. Load the editor and you will be able to explore just like arma, it’s a case of "telling a story" and giving the user a sense of he/she is in a movie. But that game play isn’t for everyone.

Sandbox editor is in your install directory in the folder called "sandbox editor" Once installed the shortcut will be in your bin32 folder, in the same location. Make sure you install the sandbox editor in the same location as your game, as it reads the files from there and plays just like the game, but in a editor window.

Hey, don't even think about it! Finish the Lost World mod for ArmA first! MfG Lee I don’t think that’s a going to be possible now Due to the Anim tool. Yes i also noticed that the fps is very smooth, it never drops, very optimized. Also the AI seems to be slightly "harder" than your average human taking about 5 shots to kill them. Perhaps this is to compensate with the nano suit the player has.

Been playing it on and off all day, experimenting with the engine and I have to say, visually its amazing, the environment for me is the selling point of this game, it draws you in, and you feel part of the game world. This is a shot with the sandbox editor, with a cut scene in real time. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif' alt='whistle.gif'>

    Band Of Brothers Mod

Fourteen or not, that’s an immature attitude none the less. You’re not really helping

    Band Of Brothers Mod

You must remember that you guys are new, and all this seems very exciting. Just because you’re allegedly are doing this for the community doesn’t mean you owe them anything at all. A lot of people on the forum are grumpy old men, and they have seen hundreds of threads like this. Think of it as a welcome to the community gesture I guess. Those who replied with valid comments are useful, rather than the regular “omg can’t wait for this" reply. They are nice and sometimes give you false hope. Do it for your self and your team, no one else. Anyway I will keep quite now. Happy modding

    Band Of Brothers Mod

Good luck with the project, starting out as something as epic and as broad as a "band of brother mod" is definitely not the easy option that’s for sure. I hope you realise your dreams, but don’t be disappointed if it all fails horribly, I don’t mean this in a negative way, but arma has a tendency of having plenty of "idea" mods, but lacks people to bring them to life. As people say, best bet is to start small, write down everything you are going to need for the mod, and try and make plenty of contacts. This is what I can offer you, from previous experience in the community. Good luck Nick

    Mirrored Normal Maps

I might be a shot in the dark, but I hope either one of the BIS team or community members might be able to help answer this question. Do we know if Arma supports Mirrored Normal Maps? An explanation. The basic idea is: In videogames usually you build the model, and then texture only half of the mesh. Allowing the other half of the mesh share the same texture. Normal maps are different since the colours in normal maps affect how the model is illuminated. In theory you can't use the same normal map on both sides of the mesh, because one side should result like lit in a reverse manner Now, some engines correct this behaviour, so you can still use the "half textured mesh" approach. But seems like Arma doesn't do this Thanks Nick

    Lost-World Returns

Thanks cribban Unfortunately still no word from BIS regarding the tool, a few request proposals have been sent to BIS, we are still awaiting word of "yes or no" All we need is confirmation of a "Yes or No" (it’s that simple) Doesn’t matter when we get it, as long as we have a clear answer. That way we don’t waste time developing something that’s never going to work in the engine. We are still active, but nothing to really show atm Nick

    Lost-World Returns

The sound system will work in real time with the species and various objects placed. There wont be any looping sound tracks, all sounds will originate from a physical source. That way, when you hear a sound, it will have a destination. As for the sound fx itself, we wont have any JP sounds, they will be created from scratch. Hope that helps

When will we see new unit models?

We are also making new character models for our main characters for the Lost World Returns mod. Here is a picture of our base model. (Camouflage is subject to change) Modelled and textured by Jenny. I’m 100% certain the model won’t just be used for us anyway. Who knows what jenny has in store

    What's the best racing sim

Yeh we did set up "Flashpoint Racing" back before Arma was released. Unfortunately it lost interest. Like most things http://flashpoint-racing.lohikaarme.org The website is still there, and could be re used if someone has the time to manage it all. Nick

    What's the best racing sim

Live for speed, by miles. LFS can support a lot of input, including the G25 racing wheel. And it has Formula1 car/track that will make your eyes come out of your sockets, breaking down from 200mph to 60mph in a few seconds! It’s not as pretty as the others, but its like the ofp of racing. Good community and realistic values. http://www.lfs.net/

    Oil Rig for ArmA

Looking forward to this. I remember playing splinter cell which included a oil rig mission. There are a load of pictures on this walkthrough guide that might give you some new ideas. http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/splintercell/mission3/mission3.htm On a personnel note, does it have any working lights? I think small ones above doors or passage ways illuminated green or yellow would give it a lot of atmosphere for night missions. If I remember, mapfact released a nifty light pack with various light sources and colours.
  20. Brilliant work Something as simple as increasing the engagement range for AI adds a whole new atmosphere and game-play. I was very disappointed with the AI engagement ranges with stock ArmA and a lot of the time I had lots of frustration with the AI, not being able to “see†contacts right in front of them. There is nothing better than having the feeling of being suppressed and generally “fearful†of the enemy AI. In a game like ArmA is vitally important due to the huge scope of the landscape, and now finally this important fix has solved it. As Mr Reality so rightly put it, it’s simple but crucial changes like this that make it worth playing again. Lets hope BIS are reading this for arma2!

Thank you Gant and Rien Cornelissen! Something that was really needed in arma. Great work
  22. Hello all I’m not sure this is the correct place to post this, but it does fall under mission editing to some extent. I am really just checking to see if anyone knows if its possible to play external media or FMVs "in game" for cut-scenes and to help story telling for more emotional shots for characters and more dramatic demanding scenes that the engine cant do. Thank everyone!

    Yoma's Arma Addon Synchroniser

Great work Yoma Can the same system be used for syncing global animations for broadcasting, rather than having it set for client side only? Nick
