    Community Racing Team

Thanks for all the support i think it could be a very nice venture, i expect 2% of the community members are hardcore racing fans, but if we can reach out to them, then thats my objective sorted. Thanks messiah, UKF are the first mod to have a willing interest in this, spread the word around chaps! First come first serve in terms of position of logos and their "visual" appearance. There are rally tracks in LFS but the rally system isn't as solid as the track racing, but if you are a rallyer, track racing might offer you something new and exciting to work on, nothing wrong in a new challenge I think i will send placebo a PM as he must be bogged down with the rest of the forum to worry about this little thread. Skinning a car is fairly easy as well, so if there are any expert texture artists, or anyone with any designs please post them or PM me them, Here is a basic template for those who are interested. Each car has a template like this so the design will have to vary slightly to fit the shape of the car. I think this could turn into something quite big. How does the team name "flashpoint Racing" sound? Again open to suggestions.. As for time, even if you can attend just one race a night, or 30 mins, it would be amazing to just race with fellow flashpointers using a "ofp based skin" representing mods, news sites and (i really hope so) the BIS logo... If there is a lot of interest which is starting to show, i am willing to get a server for the "flashpoint racing" team. Nick

For some of you, LFS might look too old, as a lot of new racing games on the market now look incredible in terms of photo realistic graphics, a fine example is GTL. However, as good as they might look, they all lack the core elements of what makes a racing game enjoyable. The "gameplay" and physics, LFS was designed for Online play, and it has one of the best net codes for any racing games, and to prove this it has won many awards. Not to mention the physics. But are there any mods, news sites and possibly bis who are willing to allow us to use your logos for transfers on a new racing skin, the skin would be designed with a high quality finish, but i think having ofp related logos on a racing skin, with a small team racing on a track on other servers would be rewarding. You could call me sad, but im always trying to think up new things, and a simple "yes" or "no" from who ever, in regards to permission to use your logo on a car skin would be fantastic! If you work in a mod, or you know a mod leader, ask them politely and see what they have to say Thanks all Smiley Â

Glad to see you like it, it is fantastic, it has amazing physics in terms of realistic over and understeer, wait till you get the full licence! And start racing with the BMW F1 car  I have noticed you had a GT legends banner in your profile, do you still play on that? Smiley
  4. Ladies and Gents As part of the "Smileys Environments" project i am working on, i would like to announce a release of my taster of whats to come. I present to you, the region of "Kabul" in "Afghanistan". Pics Pic 1 Pic2 Pic3 Pic4 Download My main goals in my project is to try and create a united standard of islands and terran landscapes. There are many good islands released for ofp, but as a personnel preference a lot lack realistic elevation. I would like to try and change that with he help of others. Landscapes in my eyes are the most important part of ofp, and with the release of Arm A a lot of island makers will be in heaven, with the released information regarding the options we now have. I wanted to make a updated afghan map, as the only one available is starting to show its age. The island is 1024x1024, and will run on any ranges pc, providing you dont over max your settings. The island is a "naked" version, as i would like to allow a "open source" preference. Allowing any mapper who wishes to work on a good base, in terms of elevation, as it can be very hard to get decent looking terrain elevations with the tools at hand for ofp. I used digital elevation models to create the landscape and you will notice a large difference when you see it in game. Â View distance can sit at 5k quite happily, with normal terrain detail. DO NOT exceed normal terrain detail in your settings, doing so will result in the crashing of ofp to desktop. Check the readme for more details, but my main projects now lie in the hands Arm A, and have many good projects up my sleeve. Thanks for taking the interest in the post and i hope you get as much or as little satisfaction out of it as you need. Smiley A big big thankyou to ofp info for hosting the file and pics.

    Smileys Environments "Afghanistan,Kabul"

Hi .pablo. Thanks for doing the config names, Referring to your statement. I had to resize the dem in a few ways due to ofp limitations. For one, the height elevations are limited in ofp to 1400m i beive, i use WRP TOOL thus i had to "lower" the true elevation data to comply with ofp, otherwise the terrain would have gone all spiky and ugly. I hope this will be corrected in Arm A, but ofp was never really suited to taylor large dems with quite dramatic elevations such as Afghan or similar environments. As for the X-Y you are also correct, the dem i ordered was slightly out of size, so i had to resize it in wilbur, to the untrained eye, there is no noticeable difference, but when looked in more detail you can see the difference, this too is a ofp limit, as i wanted to keep the larger scale, but had to edit back in shape to fit ofp standards ect. Again i hope that Arm A will support different sized resolutions. Without them having them to be a factor of 2. ( i think, crap at maths 12x12, 64x64 128x128 ect ect) Rem eber this is really a small taster of what "can" be done in ofp, in terms of a semi realistic sized terrain environment using DEMS, but for the real iceing on the cake, we really need to look at Arm A, and a lot of people like you and me will be in heven with all the space and scope we will have available to us. And with the snippets of information from bis about visitor2, it sounds like it will be able to import dems as "standard" with plenty of cool features. As far as i know the island is still 51.2k, but its useing 100m dem elevation data. The dems i can get for "free" as i have some contacts there, but they are normally about Å8.00. But be warned, its advisable that you contact somone from mapmart if you want to order from them for ofp, as their ordering system is rather lacking "detail" for correct sized areas, its more of a case of draging a box over a area, which i found useless as you cant get the right scale. PM me if you want anything and i can try and get it for you If you would like to have the original dem, and if you think you can edit it, let me know and i will be happy to send it over to you, but i think i managed to get the best results for ofp anyway. Thanks for your input Nick

    Smileys Environments "Afghanistan,Kabul"

Many thanks for the kind words Expect plenty more like this to come @Sgt_Eversmann Kabul should be far north of the large central flat area that you see in the ofp map, you will notice a few smaller hills, kabul surrounds itself around that, now due to the sheer scale and size of kabul you would really have to populate the eitire northern part, however this cant be done for ofp, so a smaller version will have to do, if you have google earth check the area of kabul and you will be able to take refrence on its location and size, or try google for images of "maps" and you will see As for the other link, im not aware of anymore As for the requests, all have been noted, but i cant emagin them being done until Arm A, as this is a small teaser of whats to come useing the updated engine (drools) As for the populated version? Im sure there are a few others who are having a go, with some modeling experience or not anyone can place objects Nick

Thanks for the kind words If your still wanting to get it working in ofp, give me a shout and i can help you out with it. Im on 56k so my time is limited "online" so anything via email and a wee message will be handy and i can crack on with it. Dont give up tho Keep at it. AS for the extra link? im not sure ofp info is hosting it, so it should be ok Smiley

    Smileys Environments "Afghanistan,Kabul"

Just to answer some questions @ Heatseeker Thanks for the offer, lets hope one day you give it a bash, who knows you might be good at it @Rabbit Har har :P, na your right tho mate @Sniperuk Cheers mate, model me some cool buildings @Grunterlund The pic you see is in fact a tiny bit smaller than the actual dem and map in game, if you check the game map far east of the central flat area you should see a valley, and if you head to the top right you will see a lovely collection of those mountains. Yes the valley is huge, the scale is as close to real life as i could make it, of course there are some limitations, but overall we are looking at about 100m definitions, so every 100m will have elevation data/change. This is a limit of ofp in a way, and the dem, as its hard to get global dems of higher detail of lets say 30m or 10m. Only American dems have that kind of detail so far. The map is 1024x1024, so if my maths is correct i belive its a 25x25 scale, ideally this is a small gimpse of what Arm A could have as "standard" with 5k view distances or more with populated terrain with no lag (i hope) If you have google earth enter in the lon/lat details displayed on the imageshack image top right and you can get a idea of the scale/size and locations, along with many important reference features. @wolfsatar Yeh if you over max your terrain detail settings in your options you will crash to desktop, don't go above "normal" due to the size of the map, ofp cant seem to handle the memory no matter what pc you have. Just a quick note, if anyone wishes to see another part of Afghan created, or plans to order something from "mapmart" let me know as i would be more than happy to tell you what pre requisites you need to get it working into ofp, as its a complex process and i don't want anyone wasting any money Smiley

    Smileys Environments "Afghanistan,Kabul"

To answer a few questions @ [CAS] Daniel The scale is about 100m to real life elevations, this is more than ok for ofp related engines, but as we advance into Arm A, i can imagine it getting smaller and more detailed, providing the cell areas are less than 100m in visitor. More detail, better elevations such as cover, ditches ect. @ ValdAlex Nice work, i have a normandy dem covering the d day landings and stretching into Normandy, it is going to be used in the new D-Day 1944 game by frantic games, if you would like it for reference give me a shout. @Jenny Thanks Jen, Yeh the map is the area of Kabul province and surroundings, if you check the map the large flat central area at the north is Kabul, and down from that are the flats, and then the mountainous terrain in the south, west, north and east. Which have no specific name, but hold plenty of taliban fighters i expect. Check google earth and you will see it Here you go Clicky @Buliwvy Yeh thats a small error in the config, not a large problem, any island maker will now how to correct that, or put their own icon down, remember its open source so anything goes @ Lilwille Thanks for the kind words, i hope it kicks off. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a PM, i am always willing to help anyone who wishes to try island making And yes you are free to convert or transfer anything you like, dont have to ask, just check the readme for more details. Smileys Environments "Afghanistan,Kabul"

Hi Kubi Yes your right, the water level in ofp plays extreme difficulty when important dems. I spent about 6 hours editing the raw data to allow the water and elevations to sit together in peace. I also hope this will be fixed in Arm A As for the elevation data i used STRM data, from a place called "Mapmart", i have some contacts there and i am able to place and order of custom sized areas of what i require for ofp. I tried the free websites and download areas, but i find that most of them are lacking detail. Mapmart is the only place i know with good enough detailed dems, for ofp needs, we would have to get in touch with n.a.s.a and spend lots of cash to get 1m dems ect Im glad to see the response, and i hope it gives some people a insentient to perhaps start learning or modeling or mapping, that is the best reward in my eyes. Kubi if you have any more specific questions, pop me a PM, i know very few island makers who like to use dems, due to the fact its a hassle to get them and then get them into game Smiley

    Smileys Environments "Afghanistan,Kabul"

Hi Fork 122 I wont be making any populated versions for ofp res, but i do plan to make naked and populated versions of the terrain environments i make, but really Arm A will allow this to reach is full potential. Smiley

    OFP PC newb needs help...

1.) Make a folder (any name but something relevant to your addons) and place it in your main ofp directory (codemasters/operationflashpoint) - eg. 2.) If its just addons you want to run you will need to make a sub folder inside the folder you just created called "Addons". 3.) Inside the "foldername/Addons" put your ofp addons in there. (pbos, drag and drop) 4.) Once your done, find your ofp shortcut that you use to launch ofp, right click it, and copy 5.) Past to your desired location, rename it to represent your addons your running (eg "mynewaddons") 6.) Right click your new shortcut and select properties, look for a box called "target" 7.) There should be a text box showing a command line of text. Should look something like "C:\Program files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE" 8). Thats your default target to run operation flashpoint. To add your mod folder to run along side the ofp target you need to copy and past the following 9.) -nosplash -nomap -mod=NAMEOFFOLDER, edit the mod name of folder to represent your one you want to use (eg "mynewaddons". Make sure you add that command AFTER the original target with a space. So it should end up something like this. C:\Program files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE" -noslpash -nomap -mod=FOLDERNAME 10.) click apply and ok, and double click on your new shortcut, it should run the addons hope it helps

increase the terrain detail in MP?

Can the view distance be edited for each player? Or is it just one global setting? Got me thinking as the "setTerrainGrid X" can be edited for each player. Thanks Nick

Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

I think as a nation, Britain certainly has the right to "kiss us ass" as you so bluntly put it. You may not like America, but its tough shit, American's will be our only true allie that we can rely on, when it comes to action(and a few others of course). Im not one to go off topic but i just wanted to defend that post as im rather reluctant to be ruled by Brussels. Have a good day
