  1. This is the best picture I have that shows one (I didn't think to take a direct picture of it back in 2011 :P ). To my understanding it was just added on sometime, while the "original" system still only has 4. H-60s are ridiculously unstandardized.
  2. Actually H-60s have a 5th EOMS sensor on the belly, around where the transition meets the tail boom section.
  3. Hey guys, just noticed that the PlayWithSix repo includes an older version of ShackTac FTHUD that only properly supports islands in its config. Hoping you can update it to the newest version, which uses a different scripting technique to automatically support all islands. Link here: http://dev.withsix.com/news/745
  4. Awesome! The more experience, the better! All my experience so far is with ARNG birds and one deployment to Kosovo. Haven't even seen a Mike outside of visiting their hanger at Useless for 5 minutes. Even if Franze/Nod don't do their own UH-60, I'd love to see their experience and some of their back-end scripting shared across towards one. You guys thought about making some of common framework for aircraft addons? It'd be awesome if we could get every helicopter addon to have this much fidelity, especially if the TKOH FM starts getting used in ArmA3.
  5. Yeah, did some searches and the only AH-64 with CEFS I can find is a Robbie Tanks brochure for their 125-gallon Reduced Size CEFS: http://www.robbietanks.com/images/advgallery/document/brochure_51_ah-64_rcefs.pdf My state still has some ancient -60As from 79 and 80 (so old they don't have ESSS mounts), but I believe they're still modded up with CMWS, fiber-optic gyros, added vehicle health sensors, and for the inlet filters that you see in Iraq, or on the BIS ArmA2 UH-60s. Though I have heard that they're being sent to the boneyard within the next year or so, to be replaced with some beat up UH-60Ls. But there's always upgrades, like UH-60A+ "Frankenhawks" that were/are used in Afghanistan. Have the T701Cs and maybe the main transmission from a -60L put in, to keep up with the hot and high.
  6. Fair enough, just wanted to add in that if you guys do decide on a UH-60, I can try to provide nearly any non-restricted reference you want, even NSNs on the rivets! :P Another question, does the Block II not incorporate the 200-gallon CEFS (Crashworthy External Fuel System) tanks at all? I wouldn't feel very safe with ERFS tanks that pump hot bleed air into a tank of JP8! :P For some background, it seems AH-64Ds are a lot more standardized than UH-60s, such as no Block IIs having CMWS. While with Blackhawks, they just have whatever's modded on. Half my state's H-60s have CMWS, some don't, one's modded for an internal fuel tank, a few have BFT. Overall rather random, and no change in any designation whenever anything's modded in.
  7. Mmmm, love those sounds of the ignitors kicking in on the T700s. Love all the work you guys have put in so far, and looking forward to seeing your AH-64 perfected. Sorry if these questions were already answered, 20 pages is a lot of time to read through... Curious if you plan on doing any A2CU flight suit skins for your pack? And if you still have any intentions on doing some H-60s down the line? Thanks again for the fun addon!

    AH-64 Pack

Awww, I was looking forward to seeing your AH-64 randomly pop flares at all the false positives the system gives. :P

Ah, Camp Bondsteel. I can't even imagine how bored the Apache crews were there. Though obviously bored enough to practice that. Aircrew equipment vests are loaded with straps and designed to allow rescue via hoist, or strapping themselves to the Apache like so. Crew chiefs on other helos will tether themselves inside so that they can move freely without worry of falling to their death if they fall out. Also curious if you guys have any CMWS scripts set up. Just got to do some work on a system the other day, so wanted to see if I can help with anything on it.

    AH-64 Pack

Well, since nobody else has asked yet... With ArmA3 alpha next week, you guys plan to continue ArmA2 work or start porting to ArmA3?

    AH-64 Pack

Franze, are you sure you're not working on a DCS: World module mocked up to look like ArmA? :P

    AH-64 Pack

Would love to finally see some proper "Air Warrior" kit in ArmA, but would love to see your Apache first. If you guys do make new crew models, could you also do a regular style helmet for us H-60 and H-47 folks? (I do assume that the ALSE and other gear are the same between helo types.)

You'd want to go to gatordev for most of the flying parts, since I'm just a mechanic on them. I have a slightly outdated copy of the maintenance manual for H-60As and 60Ls, but I believe those are restricted. I can also take any sort of reference picture needed, at least until next Sept. Though I may be limited to HH-60s for a while. What I have found through searching are some student handouts released by Rucker. They even say "This product is releasable to students from all requesting foreign countries without restrictions," so it should be good to post a link. They include info on the mixing, particularly the ratios of the degrees changed. I'd suggest downloading the PDFs in case they disappear. I'm also in no rush to see H-60s for A2. I'd rather see them in TKOH or A3, so that at least some of the flight sim things can be modeled. Though, if I could request something for the AH-64 and H-60s, it'd be aircrew in their "Air Warrior" get up.

    AH-64 Pack

Yeah, with all the pilot assist stuff off (SAS, BOOST), pushing the collective full down then moving the pedals will cause the collective to raise a couple inches. The mixer is also what runs your Load-Demand Spindles to the engines (Basically, the throttle). For more random trivia, the 20 degree cant to the tail rotor provides about 400 pounds of lift while in a hover. And if you guys are serious about doing a UH-60, I'd love to provide any reference info or photos that I can. If you stay away from H-60Ms and the medevac HH-60s, you won't even have to worry about MFDs. :P

    AH-64 Pack

I'm curious about something... On H-60s there's a mixer unit in the flight controls that helps compensate for helicopter aerodynamics when moving the controls. IE: when moving the collective, it also changes the tail rotor pitch to help counter the change in the main rotor's torque. Does the AH-64 have something similar, and do you guys model it in the rotor pitch simulation?
  17. Made up some variables for the islands that United Operations have in their map pack. Hopefully work fine. Carrigdubh ST_FTHud_Centre = [150,150]; ST_FTHud_Scale = 0.65; ST_FTHud_Zoom = 0.09; MCN_Aliabad ST_FTHud_Centre = [150,150]; ST_FTHud_Scale = 0.72; ST_FTHud_Zoom = 0.097; Spritz ST_FTHud_Centre = [150,150]; ST_FTHud_Scale = 0.65; ST_FTHud_Zoom = 0.045; Tropica ST_FTHud_Centre = [150,150]; ST_FTHud_Scale = 0.65; ST_FTHud_Zoom = 0.022;

Fully articulating rotors and swashplate? I didn't even think that was possible in this engine! Simply amazing. Looking forward to seeing it released!

    Blackhawks by YuraPetrov

Wow, that's quick work on adding the CMWS eyes in. :o Found a forum that has a good selection of various deployed Army H-60s, showing the air inlet filters used in Iraq and some good pictures of CMWS stuff. Also note the "NO FLARES" painted to the left of the vertical facing M130 launcher. Page 4 has lots of pretty pictures of 160th birds and a couple of a UH-60M. http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=139895&st=40 This is the closet up picture I can find of a loaded bucket. This is how we'd load them when I was in Kosovo last year. Whenever the system fired, it'd shoot one of each type. http://www.dvidshub.net/image/485277/aviation-soldiers-pioneer-new-training I've never seen a picture of a CMWS-equipped H-60 with an ALQ-144 installed except for those pictures in that forum of 160th birds. But the 160th does whatever they want and seem to have a new mod to their aircraft every month. :P And one other note for once you get to releasing UH-60s... AFIAK the Army never uses miniguns on a regular UH-60. Just for the 160th and their fancy birds. If I had to guess, anything from about 2007 and onwards would use M240Hs to replace the M60D. Hope some of this helps!

    Blackhawks by YuraPetrov

Pretty much. The differences between the HH-60A and the HH-60L are the same as differences between the UH-60A and UH-60L. And same with the HH-60M/UH-60M. The differences include a number of small changes internally, main thing being an improved main transmission and engines. I also believe that every H-60L has the wider step fairings (The part that attaches in front of the main landing gear) to accommodate heavier vibration absorbers. But apart from that I couldn't tell you any visual difference between the H-60A and H-60Ls. And as a bonus a picture of an HH-60L, deployed to Kosovo with ESSS and without CMWS. http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Army/Sikorsky-HH-60L-Black/1014325/L/

    1. That link is just showing UH-60As with the Medevac kit installed. As long as the airframe has the required mods, the internal hoist and carousel can be moved between any UH-60. UH-60Qs were based on UH-60As, then redesignated HH-60As when the HH-60Ls came along. Both have the OBOGS, specialized medical stuff, external hoist, and FLIR pod on the nose. 2. Yeah, I'd assume most of those are state-side images. When I was in a Medevac HH-60L unit, they always kept the external tanks on to improve the range, but would remove them for a deployment. 3. I did goof a little up there, APR-39 is the Radar Warning Receiver system, which is installed "stock" on every H-60. Meant the AAR-57. And as islesfan186 noted, CMWS isn't covered in the operator's manual due to being a modification, with the exception of checklists for some reason (manuals are dumb like that.) 4. My memory is fuzzy on this, but I think 20% torque on each engine while cruising, and maybe 60% while in a hover. It's been a while since I've been up in one, which wasn't very often anyways. 6. Just a little bit of trivia! But to my understanding, the dedicated Medevac versions (HH-60A/L/M) are National Guard only. Active Duty would only use the Medevac kit. Not 100% on this at all. And one quick picture that's labeled as HH-60A, showing FLIR, no crew windows, bubble cargo windows, rack for flare launcher on the tail cone, and the two mounts on the rear of the tail pylon for the CMWS sensors/eyes. http://www.pbase.com/jimgarbee/image/139584237

    Blackhawks by YuraPetrov

Very very impressive work. Been following Yura's Blackhawk work for a while, nice to see a release! Got a few "nitpicks" if you don't mind putting up with my whining for a little bit. ^^; And as a disclaimer, some of this info is stuff I've picked up second hand from asking questions of people that have worked on H-60s longer than me. So if you have a source that disagrees with my claims I'd be interested in hearing more! 1. Somewhere along the way, UH-60Qs were redesignated as HH-60As. Don't even think you can find any reference to UH-60Qs in the technical manuals. (Though they still have EH-60As, have yet to see one of those.) 2. I don't think any pilot in a combat zone would want ESSS and fuel tanks on their bird, due to the weight and restrictions they put onto the airframe. Especially in Afghanistan where the altitude has a serious impact on the aircraft's performance. 3. AFIAK any US Army H-60 can be modded with CMWS and APR-39s, meaning mounting brackets meant specifically for flares being installed on both sides of the tail. Also makes the ALQ-144 obsolete, thankfully. 4. In that cockpit screenshot, seeing the engine torque at 100% while on the ground is kinda scary! Only time I've seen 100% is at 10,000 feet during a single-engine test procedure. :P 5. RH's H-60 sounds are as spot-on as the engine can support. My only complaint of his sounds are that they aren't as deafening as the real thing. :P Now, I say all these things, but I realize that this is your addon and you can do with it whatever you like. Just trying to be helpful. If you think I'm dumb and don't want to hear more, I'll stay quiet. Or if you'd like I can give a more thorough nitpicking of the model, at least as much as my knowledge will allow me to. Either way, glad to have something besides the ugly and inaccurate BIS model! :D
  23. M16/M4 carrying handle sights have like 15 adjustments from 300-800, and don't have a constant number of adjustments between each 100 meter (IE there's 4-5 clicks from 300 to 400m, but 2-3 clicks from 600 to 700). Been a while since I've played with one, and haven't got to play with a rail system carrying handle to know if it's different. But frankly, I'd be happy with 50m adjustments from like 300-600, then a 700 and 800. At those ranges you're not really trying to hit a person with iron sights anyways.
  24. Helicopter crews don't need oxygen unless they're operating above 10,000 ft for an extended period, and Army helicopters aren't pressurized. The mask shown in the pictures I referenced is basically a piece of plastic that attaches to the sides of the helmet. Also, managed to find a flickr stream with a bunch of reference images: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Air%20Warrior&w=40633065%40N07 The stream has a bunch of other stuff in there as well, included a few images of armor crew.
  25. Yay for being told inconsistent things. Alwell. And now for a bit of detailed talkings. There are two vests, the body armor, and over that is the "survival" vest, which is the one loaded with MOLLE straps. The front, lower, camo'd parts of the vest are a bit thick, since they have survival equipment shoved inside them. There's a harness around the legs so the crewman can be hoisted. A few other notes... the mouth/face mask isn't really needed, it's there to protect the gunner's face from the wind when he sticks his head out at 150 knots, and pilots don't wear them. And the uniform is slightly different from regular ACUs, mainly that the pockets have zippers, there are second pockets by the ankles, and the funny long pouch on the inside left leg. Now, for pictures... the gear on the vest isn't very consistent, especially since some of them aren't in theater. But getting something kinda close should be good. Can't complain too much about free. :) Couple ones showing magazine pouches: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4812145382_0f425a6d17_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/4798415617_c8104568e6_b.jpg One type of M9 holster: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4011/4292595505_bb242227d5_o.jpg The rest: http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e1/-images/2010/03/29/68172/army.mil-68172-2010-03-29-090336.jpg http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e1/-images/2010/02/16/64325/army.mil-64325-2010-02-16-090233.jpg http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e1/-images/2009/02/24/30996/army.mil-30996-2009-02-24-100202.jpg http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e1/-images/2010/02/07/63768/army.mil-63768-2010-02-07-090214.jpg http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e1/-images/2010/01/15/61558/army.mil-61558-2010-01-15-040152.jpg
