I fully agree. This is an insult to all the female forum members (and feminist males). And I don't like it one bit!

    300

It was an entertaining movie. I give it the score 26 out of 35. I would very much like to be a spartan when I grow up. sincerely, SpeedyDonkey.

While I admit that few people still use 56k modems on a regular base there is the odd day (or even week) where the only internet access available to me is by using a slow dialup connection. It's annoying having to adjust compression settings for each image (even at the low resolution of 600x400 that I use in the photography thread) just to get below the 100k mark - but up to now I always managed without too much quality loss. And then there's always the possibility to give a link to a bigger image. Hotlinking images > 800x600 (which is where a bigger file size allowance would really be required) isn't sensible anyways. Not everyone has a 1600x1200 screen or is running his browser in fullscreen all the time. And on my part I've got to say that I hate nothing more than having to scroll just to see all of a picture. To get a first impression a smaller image is quite sufficient - and for details you can always give a link or do a crop. Well last time I posted images I had to use jpeg compression 3 to 5 in Photoshop to get under (and just barely) 100kb. And that was on 990 X 590 images. I think one has to be completely stupid to post a full sized image. It is as you hinted extremely inconvenient for the viewer, as well as aesthetically unpleasing. I mean, what is the point of posting photos on a forum? You want others to see your work and hopefully they’ll like it, few people are so stupid that they’d ruin everything by posting gigantic oversized images. So I do not really see any big risk in that. And if you want to have a rule for it, sure why not? It’s an easy rule to implement and easy for moderators to check. (Just like the signature size rule)

I do think that the 100 kb image rule is outdated. Around 2001 it might have seemed like a good thing, but this is six freaking years later friends.

I took these last tuseday from the semifinal game in the swedish elitseries. These are taken with the kit lens, and I really do miss a lens with a larger aperture size and a bigger zoom ranger. : )

Ah, I chose to put it like that to avoid getting slammed by some 30D, 5D or 1D user  "Starter models of the professional class" Is probably a better wording Â

I myself was in your position a few weeks ago. I was about to get my first DSLR and I read review after review, read on forums, and asked friends who knew more about these things than I do. The more I read, the more into Canon I got. This was probably influenced by a friend of mine who is a photographer and spoke very well of canon cams and lenses. I’m not saying that Canon is better than this or that, no, not at all. But I felt very comfortable with the idea of owning a Canon : ) The next question was what model to purchase. Since I'm pretty much a total newbie in photography I looked for the entry level models 350D and 400D. The main differences being 8 vs 10 mega pixels, the automatic sensor cleaning, and a nine point auto focus. I could probably have lived without these improvements but after seeing some people that had the 350 actually discussing selling them and purchasing a 400d (don't ask me why) I said to my self that I might as well get it now. : ) I got the D400 with the 18-55 mm kit lens. Knowing nothing about lenses I had no idea what to think of it. But after reading up more info once again, and talking from own experience this is a price worthy lens as you wont find many better lenses in the same price class. So it’s good and does the trick when you learn all the functions of  the camera and such. Eventually one will want more, and better lenses, with lower F-numbers, better macro capabilities and longer zoom range but save that for later ; ) Now if there's anything else you'd like to know about the 400D let me know and here's an example photo I took with it the first day that I got the camera =)

Which Mod Would You Eat If You Were Stranded?

I took Ex-RoNiN cos' he had no votes so far I also like Greek food, so that's bonus. I like this poll Sniper Skull. Can you reveal how this will work on a weekly basis? Will it be the same poll with the same names each week, so that we can get statistics on what moderator is the most popular choice as nutrition, or will you eventually change to other groups of people?

Hey guys! I'm wondering about shooting in RAW. What is the main advantage? That one can correct under / over exposure better in photoshop? I'm somewhat used to working in photoshop, but never used RAW's. Any beginner’s tips are very welcome. Should I use the program that came with the Canon, or Adobes own system (assuming that there is one)?

Nice pictures man! Mind sharing a 100% crop at 100ISO with us? I am interested in the noise levels of the chip Of course I can! Now I'm sure I don't need to tell you that I don't know the first thing about optimizing images for less noise. These have all been taken with noise reduction off. I presume that it's used mainly for higher ISO numbers? And I can’t remember which ones were taken with iso 100 cos' I played around with the settings. I guess you can see it in the exif info link1 Link2 Link3

Wow! Nice pictures ya'll.. I remember a few years ago when this thread was started by Mr Blackdog, and it was Okay for morons such as myself to post crappy photos.. Well things do change. Anyways, I just got myself a EOS 400d and so far I just have the kit lens. I still have to find out what all the options do, before I even stand a chance on taking any really neat looking stuff. But in the meanwhile I'll post these: Just playing around with the manual focus. A picture of a thing. Gas prices in Sweden have dropped dramatically since the invasion of Norway (0,50 öre is roughly 0,07 USD).
