2 suggestions that may be a good way to add this feature.... 1) either have the engineer capable of disarming a satchel... or 2) allow a kit to be picked up from base which allows for any soldier (given the time) to disarm a satchel.

if an admin logs in he will have admin next to his name...in game you can check by typing #userlist...its a pain I know...but at least a temporary solution.
-
I agree that it may hinder realism a bit, however, the feature would certainly help to get rid of the player that comes in and you get to hear them breathe or listen to their radio for the entire match. Perhpas a good work around for this would be to have only the logged in admin be able to see a keyed mic? I suppose that this wouldnt help the players know who is who, but it would resolve the "breathers" and TV watching people. Theres nothing worse than playing in a match and listening to some guy cough and breathe the whole time.

I dont mind no message myself...in public servers, for the most part, if you are being kicked you have been warned and told that you are going to be kicked. I DO understand that in the situation posted above it could get a bit nasty and this would be of great benefit in that type of situation. I guess I never really put it into perpective that a less than honest admin could boot opposing team players that were beating them. I think that the best bet in this occurance would be to ensure that all admins log out before a clan war starts and that the voting threshold is disabled or at least high enough to require votes from both teams. I guess you would have to install some sort of league rule that states that logging is as admin durring a game is a no-no.

Makes very little sence to me either...most of the polls are being locked down...some of which seem to me to be valid...ie the poll on the addition of logs and the one mentioned above. I understand that the results of a poll arent going to necessarily sway development, but I would think its a good indicator as to what the community may want in the future...I understand that moderation of a forum is a nightmare...but who cares if there are 4 polls on the same topic? Those that arent interested just wont read them. In my oppinion, I would think that more input would be better. Im not knocking any of the administration in the forums...in fact, I think that a good job has been done for the most part...but it seems that most of the polls are being locked. I would suggest that if this feature of the boards isnt going to be used, then remove it rather than locking all of them down.

BigQEd is right...in addition, the availability of logs would make it possible for some creative PHP coders to import the stats into page based wars...this is to say, the outcome of a particular mission could potentially be updated to a web page showing which section of an island is held by either East or West troops. Of course this is an oversimplified example, but just one of the advantages of having logs available.

From what I understand thus far...there is an expansion coming out that is being developed by CodeMasters which will be a campaign add-on (kinda like Red Hammer) In regard to Independance lost...perhaps there are engine modifications which will address some of the issues involved with OFP such as network code, Linux support, etc. At this point the answers are up for grabs, but I would gladly purchase a new retail stand alone just on the merit of better multi-play. Lets hope that if it is truly a stand-alone project that it will handle the multiplay aspects alot better. For all we know, IL could be a multiplay only title...hard to say what the real info is at this point. (remember when unreal released with its really crappy network code and was followed by Unreal Tournament as a seperate product

ISDN is a a no-go...its outdated, slow, and too expensive ofr what you get. Cable is good, but has had a tendancy to be flakey in some areas. I had cable in my area and it rarely worked right. Sometimes it was almost as slow as dial up. Most cable connections cap their up rate which can be a hinderance as well. Cable is also notorious for packet loss which is a killer for on-line gaming. Cable quality varies from area to area so its a bit of a crap shoot (it may be great in your area). Your best bet is to talk to others using cable in your area...but make sure they are using the connection for gaming and not just surfing the web...many cable providers use a proxy cache which basically stores webpages for their customer to view and makes surfing the net 'seem' alot faster. Since cable is pretty cheap and broadband is in high demand, its not an uncommon practice for an ISP to oversell an area. ADSL is a bit more expensive than cable, but offers more consistancy in the connection. Like cable, it also has capped uprates. ADSL is also dependant upon your geographic location as you have to be within range of the equipment (usually 2 or 3 miles from where the ISP equipment is located). When you buy DSL in any flavor, you are usually purchasing by speed package which in many cases is guaranteed to be available to you. In most cases, ADSL is priced to compete with cable. SDSL is the best option if your willing to spend the extra money. It offers syncronous up and down speeds with the least ammount of packet loss, however, you are bound by the geographic location as mentioned above, but you will find that in most cases it will provide the most consistantly low pings and speed available. The price for this type of service is well beyond the cable and ADSL range and varies anywhere from $70-$150 per month depending on the bandwidth you purchase. Consider how much time you spend gaming...it may well be worth the extra cash if you have made this your hobby. If you play quite a bit, the speed and dependability well offset the cost...but its certainly not the way to go for everyone. Sattelite connections- In most cases these connections only transmit in one direction (down) and use a dial up connection for the up load. It is also quite flakey at this point and certainly not anything you want to be playing on-line games with. I have read reports of interference being a major problem with this type of connection. Maybe in the future this will be something of a competitor, but its no match for land lines at the moment. In all of these cases, your milage may vary...but this may help you to get a better handle on some of the ups and downs of each area as a whole. Hope it helps a little.

no...not unless you emulate windows on the Linux box

Id certainly like to see log files...I wonder why they locked down the last thread about them??
-
Thanks suma...but this seems to happen when there is no admin present (voted or otherwise). The problem sometimes occurs when there is no admin present and the players try to vote one in.
-
I am one of the admins of the server that Psycho1 is talking about. We allow voting all the time and do not change the cofigs to disallow it. From time to time we get reports of voting just not working and then it will mysteriously fix itself only to go on the fritz again at a later time. We have tried both leaving the default voting threshold and declaring a threshold in the config with the same result.

Sounds great! Please post when you have the new versions ready!!! In regard to the scoring sound...I liked them too, however, when sneaking through enemy territory, hearing where a gunshot is coming from or where footsteps are can sometimes make or break your assault...Great missions...I cant wait to be able to put them into rotation!!! Ill keep an eye on this post for the new links....Thanks again!

HOW ABOUT A BAN SECTION ON THESE FOROUMS
suchey replied to Frag Haus Capt Morgan's topic in MULTIPLAYER
Certainly would be a nice idea to have a website, and place for the banned to state their case...in regard to this...everyone who is ever banned is going to say they didnt do it...and there no real way to prove one way or the other...this is why I propose the system I stated earlier in this thread where a proposed banned player is submitted to the "AutoBan" utility...once the person has been submitted X number of times (or X % of time), his name goes into the ban list...of course, the tols use would have to be monitored as you wouldnt want a group of less than savory players joining together and banning players for less than fair reasons. Everything brought up in this thread raises good questions...Im sure theres a solution as to how it can be worked out, however...whatever is decided, it will most certainly not be an easy endeavor. -
very nice... If I may make a couple of sugestions: 1) on a dedicated server the mission wont start unless there is a civilian commander...would be nice if you could remove that as it forces one player to have to basically sit out. 2) the sound effects of the score are a nice touch, but get a bit overwhelming hearing them every 30 seconds. Perhpas a silent score would be better?? Overall, the missions are good fun, but the civilian commander problem is what will keep us from adding them to the servers mission rotation. Everyone on the server agreed that the missions were fun, but having one guy on civilians all the time kinda made it a pain in the butt to start the game as noone wanted to sit out. I really liked the fact that you had AI off by default...that was great. Wish more TKOTH and CTF missions did that. Add a post if you ever decide to remove the civilians...Id really like to have some of those missions in my Dedicated servers rotation!

HOW ABOUT A BAN SECTION ON THESE FOROUMS
suchey replied to Frag Haus Capt Morgan's topic in MULTIPLAYER
Mister Frag...sounds like a good idea...however, it would have to be closely administered in order to ensure that only those players who are really deserving of the ban would be placed on the list...something which might be a decent idea would be to have a proposed banned player submitted to the updater program BEFORE he is placed on the list...then if he is submitted a certain number of times (or a certain % of users (server admins) submit the same player), he is placed on the actual ban list. I know that this sort of makes it a little more slow to get rid of the unwanted individuals, however, it would help to ensure that only those most deserving of losing playing privlage on multiple servers were actually placed on the ban.txt file. In addition, there would have to be a way to ensure that just anyone could not fire up OFP, run the proposed program and ban people for frivilous reasons...if any ofp player at large has the power to add to global ban lists, it might get out of hand. Some sort of registration may have to be in place as well as someone to administer the registered users, etc. Sounds like a good idea, but also sounds like a big project in order to make sure it is properly used. Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it. -
This has been asked for before, however....Ill bring it up again because I think its a good idea...I would like to see BIS impliment an audio alert for when a game ends in multiplay for all those players waiting in the lobby. We have a dedicated server running OFP and countless times we see players join the server and see that there is quite a bit of time left in the current game....so they go do something else rather than stare at a list of names forever while they wait. Game ends, the player isnt back...we have to kick them off for not being available to "ready up"...what I propose is that OFP adds in an audio alert which will sound when the game goes back to the team selection screen...just using the air-raid siren that is already in OFP would be fine...that way people would know that its time to go back to the computer and play. This is probably something which could be done by a 3rd party program as I know that "The All Seeing Eye" can already determine what state an OFP game is in...however, building it into an official OFP patch would ensure that everyone has it greatly reduce the number of AFK folks holding up a game. Anyone else think this might be useful for OFP multiplay???

I have DSL...my isp also runs some game servers...I usually get about 19 or 20 ping to them....when playing outside of my ISP I usually get 50 or so.

right now http://www.operation-flashpoint.de/missioncenter.php seems to have the laregest archive of missions...however, the site is in German and if you dont read the language, you may have a bit of trouble figuring it out...there are tons of missions there though...the archive is public I believe so it is always growing and many of the missions readme files are in English as well.

OFP has CTF...take your experience of running with the flag...now transfer that to running in your humvee with the flag while a Russian T-80 barrels down on ya all the while hearing the ping of small arms fire bounce off your armor...you crest a hill to see one of your own Abrhams waiting for that big green Ruskie to pull up...BBBBOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Im turning 30 this year...those folks that are around my age represent the dawn of video gaming...Pong...atari...intelivision...colecovision...not to mention Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, the introduction of the Internet itself leading to Command and Conquer, Duke Nukem, Classic Quake...the list goes on and on and all happened within our life time. I have a family of my own now...I remember begging my parents for the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, and I look forward to the same from my own kids. We grew up on this stuff and I will probably still be playing when Im old and grey. I cant wait to hear my kids freak out because I used to use an old 1gig processor on a DSL line when I was younger

Very little information has been released in regard to Independance Lost. Perhaps what we know so far is only the very beginning of a back story of something completely different. The newspaper "Story" which was released in the early version of the site may be only a first of many to come in the future. For all we know, Independecne lost could be based in the year 2010 with fictional developments in regard to a veriety of very different present day conflicts. We really dont know what is to come of this yet. I understand that its easy for us to get upset in regard to situations which hit close to our own home, but we should let the facts come to light before we begin emotionaly charged debates. Only when the facts as a whole regarding IL come to light will we be able to make informed criticisms.

Hi wite...heres a direct link to directions: Avon Lady's OFP Custom Face directions

I think its an expansion pack that will bring the OFP Game world up to present times equipment and mission wise. The news paper on the site references present day dates and the vehicles, screenshots, and pictures look to be present day oriented. The development time doesnt seem to be long enough for a whole new game (I could be wrong but release in 2002 seems a bit optimistic if it was a new product)...I think alot of it will be stuff that is in VBS as we have already seen that the Australian military is represented in VBS (and the IL site seems to make quite a bit of reference to Australia in the mock newspaper). Carriers, hueys, and jump jets are also in VBS and are pictured on the IL site. Looks like it may also have some sort of loose tie in to the recent events in the middle east. Only time will tell, but the timing is just about right for a nice big add on to keep the adrenaline pumping in the OFP community.
