It appears that the config.bin has not been changed since before the beta patches.
-
I asked about this elsewhere and was directed by suma to report it as a bug...so I added this topic to ensure that it is seen. The command: hostname="xyz"; does not work from the config file. It will not return a server name to Gamespy or the All Seeing Eye...all 1.58 servers show as unnamed servers.
-
Thanks for the screenshots UKPusher...that is exactly whats happening with all 1.58 dedicated servers...we moved our main game server up to 1.58 and it stayed almost empty (save for 2 or 3 players here and there)...we rolled back our main server and within 2 minutes of going back to the old version the server was full...now, I dont think this is due to players lack of interest in 1.58, but rather...I think it was too difficult for people to find their regular servers without names attached to them...also...the fact that you needed to find the correct executable in the flashpoint folder seemed to be a hangup...Quite a few people didnt realize that it needed to be run via the new exe. Hopefully the next rev will include a fix for the dedicated server name problem...I would also like to suggest that BIS include a desktop icon labeled OFP beta (or something to that effect) which installs to the desktop by default in installation of the patch...just a suggestion.

Quick question...does the config file follow the same perameters as it did with version 1.48 and earlier?? Is it best to declare variables like MaxMsgSend = 384; MinBandwidth = 768000; or should those be removed?? Will old config items such as maxPlayers="10"; still work correctly?? It seems as though hostname = "host name here"; does not work properly as a 1.58 returns a blank name or says 'unnamed'. (this server name item happened in 1.55 too). Any info on the server config file would be appreciated...thanks in advance.

Agreed- if voted admins are able to do this I could foresee many problems with people using dedicated servers as their own private playground.

dedicated server naming does not work at the moment...thats why you dont see the names of the servers there.

Ive gotten alot of people asking me why they cant use 1.58 even after they have upgraded so I thought I would post this...be sure to start 1.58 by using the NEW shortcut OFPMPTEST.exe located in C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint if you use the shortcut you always use you will be loading OFPs OLD netcode...there wasnt any documentation that came with the patch this time so it may not be evident to some that this is how to start the game.

MTCO OFP SERVERS gs3.mtco.com has been reverted to pre-beta version gs1.mtco.com is now running the ofp 1.58 test version thanks
-
Its been slow so far getting people to test the new netcode since they cant find their favorite dedicated servers by name using 'The All Seeing Eye' or 'GameSpy3D'...currently GameSpy3D displays 'unnamed' as the name of any server running 1.55 or 1.58...'The Eye' just reports a blank space for the name. Seems that the hostname="xyz"; does not work anymore. So far everything else seems to perform correctly from the config file such as Message of the Day, etc. Id still like to have a bit more info as far as mMaxMessageSend, etc and how they are effected by the new code.

YES!! Identification of the person speaking would be GREAT!...please consider this BIS!

We use the voice feature quite extensively on our server as well...glad to see it will make it back in to future patches.
-
Suma -- thats great news...I look forward to trying the new netcode on our dedicated server. Thanks for the update.

Ok...figured it might be nice to have a thread where we can list everything we know about Resistance so far from various interviews...off the top of my head so far we know this much: -Better Graphics -Sidearms -ShotGuns -Laser-sight scopes -Civilain Vehicles Bus, Taxi, Boat -There will be a bridge (so this probably means rivers) -new island -new buildings/trees/landscape possibly better suited to closer combat. -new single player campaign -new single missions -new multiplayer missions Probably lots of stuff I missed...list it below if you know of any.

this message usually means that a map which requires an add-on that you dont have was run.

agreed...the bigger games are more likley to be played on dedicated servers...to properly 'stress test' the new net code dedicated 'stand-alone' server support is needed. I know that many of the players on our server arent really interested in testing 1.55 due to the fact that they cant use it on the Dedicated servers yet. In reading through a few threads it looks like the admin functions a dedicated server requires are broken at the moment. Hope theres a fix and a 'stand-alone' patch soon! The players on our server (and Im sure elsewhere) are beating me up with requests for the new netcode. I have to explain that its not something 1.55 does properly yet. Seems the community is rampant for this functionality. In the end its obviously BIS's decision, but I do hope that 'stand-alone' server functionality will be available soon!
-
the file that you download is a patch...execute it to install the 1.55 version. Â I already explained everything I know about the server portion in another thread so I wont bore you with the details again here. Â In a nutshell, looks like we need more documentation and a stand-alone server patch before you will see 1.55 on the dedicateds.
-
If you want to test the new version, start OFPMPTEST.EXE manually from within your codmasters/OperationFlashpoint directory.
-
the closest I have gotten is by creating a shortcut and then using a -server switch on mptest.exe...this invokes a console window and seems to start a server. The downside here is there is no documentation which mentions this or outlines a method of setting up perameters...(for example, we dont know how to resrtict number of players, name the server, set voting thresholds, etc etc) ...in addition, it seems to require the CD...without the CD in the drive the server console will not start. BIS, is there something we're missing here or is this rev of the beta not intended for dedicated (stand alone)servers? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.
-
it still happens...in fact...playing the mission by myself, sitting next to the dedicated server still results in the same problem. In the editor the turret on the M1A1 faces correctly...however, on the dedicated server it points off a different direction.
-
sort of...you can run in a server mode using a -server switch, but it still requires the CD to be present...does anyone know a way to make it work without the CD or will we have to wait for an additional patch for the stand-alone server?
-
I would liek to know this too...very strange.
