the url and add-ons used in a server being posted in the message of the day is great, however, the more you add, the longer the list...and who is going to remember all the urls, or which add-ons they were? Having standard packs would eleviate this and enable servers, map designers, and players the ability to use the add-ons without as much hassle. In my oppinion, adding 'new toys' to ofp can greatly extend the life of the game both online and off. However, its the online part thats hard to get right with so many servers running so many different add-ons. If it could be standardized as mentioned above, players would simply need one 'official add-on pack' every so often to add content to the game. The only way I can currently see this working correctly is if BIS steps in and actually takes the bull by the horns. Having an officially endorsed BIS add-on pack would give the pack the immediate acceptance and ease that it really needs to work. I also think it would be a great tool for them in that they can acknowledge the hard work of the top add-on makers in this fashion...as well as show off the ability to customize the game. Who knows...perhpas a community member could do this...I just see it as being alot quicker and easier if BIS actually sanctioned it.

Resistance's north american release date changed
suchey replied to theavonlady's topic in NEWS DISCUSSION
heres what I think is going on with that EB store and the mixed message regarding them receiving shipments...the clerks at the EB stores check their web site for release dates (at least they do here)...if you go to ebworld.com and type in resistance in the search box it shows this: (Pre-Order, Ships On 06/25/2002) HOWEVER...if you click on the link for more info it says: Ships On 7/9/2002 ...what Im guess happened is that when you asked him he fired up the page...did a search for the title and came up with the 6/25 date...so he told you that they were expecting shipments today. I think their webmaster just forgot to change the date in both spots on the page...thus causing the confusion. Perhaps I'm wrong...just a theory. -
Resistance's north american release date changed
suchey replied to theavonlady's topic in NEWS DISCUSSION
If you think about...even North America itself was in European hands first ...no biggie I suppose...we will have resistance soon...(although I was looking forward to picking it up for this coming weekend). I wonder why its pushed back in the States? Possibly shipping?? -
Im guessing it is the Russian mine model: "MineE" ...to my knowledge, it isnt used in the game much which would explain why you havent seen it before. In fact, it isnt even available in the editor without using a camcreate.

I dont think so...the absence of a face file seems to result in a white face...I would imagaine that even if you can create a transparency that it would look white.

download the "All Seeing Eye" as mentione above...its your best bet for finding multiplay games at the moment...heres the link... http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/

Dont use 1.46 dedicated server...there was a newer version server side only patch numbered 1.49 available here on the forums...its fixed some issues with choppers crashing the game, etc. Use that version of the dedicated server. Clients will still use 1.46. In order to run the server, you will need to run the stand alone server exe via a command line example: OFP_SERVER.EXE -config=server.cfg the server.cfg is where you will define server specific variables such as maximum # of players, mission rotation, message of the day, administration password, etc etc...the readme that comes with the stand alone server download does a good job of explaining these...this cfg file can also conatains items such as: MaxMsgSend=xxx; MinBandwidth=xxxxxx; which are used to tweak the connection...(you may want to look for what the best setting should be for a LAN in order to get the best performance) In regard to administration of the server (ie mission switching, etc durring your lan game) simply type: #login <<administration password you set up in your config goes here>> to switch missions once you are logged in use: #missions (list of admin commands are as follows): #login <password> Login as server administrator #logout Logout, but stay connected as a normal user #init Reload server config file loaded by -config option. #kick <player_name> Kick given player #kick <player_number> Kick player with given number #restart Restart mission #reassign Go back to side selection screen #mission <mission_name> Select mission with known name #missions Select mission #shutdown Shutdown server #userlist Display list of all users #monitor <interval_in_sec> Start server monitoring. Server CPU load and bandwidth usage is displayed in the global chat channel. The default interval is 10 seconds. To stop monitoring type monitor 0. Good Luck....hope this helped a bit!

I think you will see a nice resurgance in Multi-Play in a couple weeks when Resistance is released.

Thought I would share this as it helped me with some joystick issues...theres a great little program called RB-Joy which allows you to program every button and every axis on any stick or controler you have hooked into your machine. Â SO if you wanna use a joystick for 1st person infantry movement, decrease the sensitivity on a throttle or program some controller buttons on a stick which is not normally programmable...go here: http://www.rbsoft.de/RB-Joy/rb-joy.html and try this sucker out...I would imagine that some people having trouble getting joysticks to work properly in OFP could program it with this and make it work (provided the stick works ok in windows) since it can make joysticks work even in games which don't support them natively...anyway, your mileage may vary...hope it helps some people out.

As I understnd it the real LAW launchers are telescopic...in other words...they collapse down to a smaller size for easier carrying...they are also disposable in that they are used once and discarded for the most part...I understand that it is possible to reload them in the field, but that it is something that is very rarely (if ever) done. WOuld be kinda kewl to have an animation for the soldier pulling open the LAW launcher to full size...but its not too bad the way it is now.

from what I understand the long distance sound bug with EAX is gone from 1.6 (actually fixed by some work arounds according to BIS)...and its being fixed for resistance. Perhaps Im wrong??? Anyone know for sure???

Dayglow...as long as your buttons register in windows...you can use the program I mentioned above to program all the buttons and axis on your CH Pro Throttle and do away with the boot disk and template loads. Might make things a bit easier for ya. I use it to program the CH Throttle I have (it is usb, but that shouldnt make a difference)

would be a nice way of getting those wandering soldiers out of yer way in multiplay.

I think I know what he talking about...on some occasions if you hit a guy in a truck he remains in his combat ready stance and 'skids' across the road reamining in that stance...then falls down as if shot. I think what hes looking for is maybe a slight addition in animation which would at least take the gun off the guys sholder when hes being hit by a 5 ton truck or something...Im not overly concerned with the skidding myself, but it would be nice to get some sort of proper animation for getting smushed by a vehicle if theres time to add it in.

Secco...although I cant help much with your problem...I can tell you that I use OFP on both Win XP home and pro and it works on both. I didnt change anything regarding compatibility on either OS.

I was playing some OFP last night multiplayer in a Cap and Hold Mission and it occured to me how much different the game would be if there were not any kill messages...what I mean to say is...when you shoot someone you get the 'bill was killed by tom' type message at the bottom of the screen. Is there any way to turn this off on a server? I never really payed much attention to it before, but in retrospect, it does kind of allow you to keep track of where people...I imagine that the tension might be a little greater if you werent exactly sure if that grenade you threw behind the building actually took out the bad guy or not.

As stated above...hand gesture animations are already available...they are as follows: CommandEngageAtWill CommandFireAtWill CommandFormation CommandForward CommandHoldFire CommandStop there is no script yet that I know of which uses these and they arent available from the core game interface. It IS possible to script them into a mission...I dont know if it would be worthwhile or not, but they are available for scripting use.

When I play a mission which involves a Russian Engineer I get the message minee.paa not found...the mission still loads, it just gives the message and waits for the user to click OK.
-
great ideas...I especially like the idea of access to the server for those that know the password. Good thinking...hope they impliment this.
