Call me crazy, but shouldn't their first concern be to feed the starving population rather than bring the world to the brink of war? It sort of seems like a blackmail effort to make the world compenaste them for their own mistakes. Look across the border and see the South enjoying such novelties as food and economic development...get mad and decide that its time for a hand out..."give us stuff or we will blow stuff up". Doesn't exactly seem like the most sane approach for obtaining aid. The more this continues the more it seems that they are looking for any opportunity to launch the world into disaster. Its like a spoiled child saying if I can play then Ill break the toy.

The Marines will not have increased hit points...the reason for this is because my personal primary use for the Marines will be for on-line adversarial play and I want to allow them to be easily faced against enemy units. The gasmask idea is great! Unfortunately, I think hiding the modeling for the gasmask in addition to the default face/goggles, etc would make the final facecount too high and negatively impact performance...HOWEVER...a Marine with a gasmask already on is certainly not out of the question. I may look into creating that as part of the pack...it would be a seperate unit so that face count doesnt get out of hand.

Vixer...thanks for the offer. Im not sure what I will decide to do in regard to the goggles yet...There are really only a couple of units that would benefit from the animation. The rifleman unit would require that the goggles slide through solid areas of the helmet and I havent decided how Im going to go about putting the goggles on the bonnie hat units (if at all). Ill probably end up leaving the goggles as static objects. I would love to know how you made the backpack removable!

I had actually considered using the urban "block" cammo on the assault force recon unit, but it makes them stick out like a sore thumb. It certainly DOES look really nice, but for right now Im going to concentrate primarily on the MARPAT. What comes after that...I have no idea, but Id certainly like to try my hand at making some Russians at some point. What happens after the MARPAT Marines is still very much up in the air.

Earl is on the case with the rifle....on a side note...keep in mind that this is the first rev of the sniper... I have work left to do on him....but the pic will give a good indication of the direction Im moving with it. Â As always...suggestions are welcome!

Updated the pic with progress Ive completed on the sniper thus far. The basics are very loosley based on the Ghost Recon Sniper as I liked the ghille suit colors and pants.

Ive been doing some work on the first person perspective and Ive been able to get the hands to actually hold the weapon rather than clip into it and look like a hamhock glued to the rifle. Its not perfect on every weapon, but for most of them its a bit of an improvement. I tried to fix up the holding of the LAW as well, but was only able to get it fixed to a minor degree...the wrist completely disconnects when the soldier holds the law (as can be seen on the default soldier models)...so there isnt a whole lot I can do about that...but at least part of it is fixed!

sort of...although its not WW2 stuff, a while back we put together a pack of addon for use in missions on our dedicated server...its relatively small, but adds a good deal to the game. The pack is publicly distributed and at the moment, at least 6 other server have it in use as well. I plan on doing a pack #2 in the near future....Details at digitalgrenade.com

FL.A.C (Flashpoint Addon Collective) pronounced like flak ?

It would seem that, in a nutshell, the discussion here is leading toward a common upgrade to OFP...a community built and designed "patch" adding a variety of weapons, soldiers, equipment, etc etc. Â Sort of a "Flashpoint 2003". Â Like any project of this nature, a govorning body would need to be installed. Â A project manager type of person. Â I think that in order to succesfully begin thinking about a project of this size and nature would require splitting first into timeframe...ww2, vietnam, contemporary, etc....then to sides like Russian/NATO or Axis/Allies...from there each individual section could be divided into smaller subsections....weapons, infantry, vehicles, etc....and on down the line. Â Each portion working toward a common goal of creating a single pack for that time fram. Â If the community can pull this off it would be a serious kick in the butt for OFP...standardized addon packs! Â The effect on every portion of OFP play would be HUGE. Â Imagine mission makers who specialize in use of the 'contemporary pack'...or deciding to play multiplay on one of a variety of servers running the 'WW2 pack'. Â A most ambitious project to say the least and certianly not an easy task. Â If the community can pull something like this off it would certainly extend the life of OFP far into the foreseeable future. Â In order for this to even begin to come to light someone is going to have to take the bull by the horns...its hard to even image where to begin with such a large scale ambition.

I personally prefer everything off...crosshairs, tags, 3rd person, etc...all except compas. It makes the game much more of a challenge. Our dedicated server also runs under these settings so if anyone is looking for a slightly different gameplay style, pick up the small addon pack at digitalgrenade.com and stop in. We usually start playing at around 8pm central.

Earl just sent me the latest developments in the M16s and they are lookin sweet! In addition, I think Im going to add the drop leg gassmask bag the the Marine units. Ive found a way to shave a few extra faces so I can add them for the bag. Im also gonna add some dirt to the knees and various places to give him a more "working" feel. The blood textures are pretty well done...I went in a bit of a different direction with the wounds than most of the units I've seen out and about so I hope everyone likes them. Ill be changing the screenshot when I have the gassmask bag in place and skinned properly.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Lt_Damage @ Feb. 18 2003,12:52)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">How are the stats collected from the game after the match finishes?<span id='postcolor'> we have a similar system in use on the MTCO server...ours uses PHP to determine when to collect the stats and is based on the source code for the 'real time server query' released a while back. Â It uses a "flat file" system to hold stats for any player that plays on the server. Â Our award section then parses out the top 5 player for each of our 4 categories in real time which include: Silver Star (top 5 overall scores for server) Sharpshooter (top 5 score to death ratios on server) Good Conduct (top 5 players completing most overall missions) Purple Heart (5 players who have died the most) The stats are cleared and awards are confirred at the end of each month to the players who hold those spots in the form of "pocket tabs" which will then appear by their name. Â Subsiquent awards are denoted by the addition of stars to the tab. Â The award winners are then all saved to a monthly 'hall of fame' section. Â The awards are manually added each month but the rest of the system is automated. To see an example of this visit our web page at digitalgrenade.com

True...the new MARPAT does include internal houseing for both knee and elbow pads, however, I added it for 2 reasons... One:  I would imagine that the the kneepads which fill these pockets arent exactly the best for the job...probably designed to be good enough for the common soldier, but given the choice, a spec ops trooper just might choose to wear external kneepads as well.  Since spec ops has more opportunity to use the gear of their choice, I figured adding the external pads wouldnt be too much of a stretch.  Think of it this way...in football, the pads which fit into the pants are  plenty for most players, but lots of guys also choose to wear additional knee protection on top or undeneath the standard inserts.  I know if given the opportunity I would certainly welcome the additional protection that the external padding afforded.  Two:  They help to differentiate the spec ops units from the regulars and just plain look nice  Regarding the goggles, they wont be positional.  Some units will wear the goggles down, others will have them up. Thanks TEX...glad you like the units so far! PS...the USMC regualars in this pack do not have external knee pads.

I think (at least in my view) that its important to mention that neither Earl or myself feel that competion between our pack and the BAS Delta Pack is something we want to encourage, nor is it healthy for the community. Â The BAS Delta Pack is TOP quality work...and I, for one, am looking forward to using BOTH packs together in play. Â In fact, the first thing I did (after refreshing the forums for an hour waiting for the Deltas release ) was to put them both in a quick mission setup side by side and go to work on some Ruskies! (nothing like seeng a horde of US Marines, Deltas, and Rangers go buck wild on some spetz! Â Ive seen Mod teams go at each other around this community and others and it never results in anything positive. Â I think I speak for both Earl and myself when I say we arent about trying to out do anyone....we are just trying to put together a nice addon that we can all enjoy in conjunction with other addons. Â I think anyone who takes the time to create an addon, a map, a piece of script, a fan site, or ANYTHING that adds to the community is tops in my book! Â I know you may not have meant it like that, but I wanted to get this out there. Â It is my hope that players can enjoy the Delta weapons and soldiers AND the USMC weapons and Marpat soldiers at the same time! Â On a similar note...I cant wait to see my Mapat Marines, carrying Earls weapons and being deployed from BAS USMC helecopters, while Army Ranger and Delta patrol the areas below! Â WOOT! Â I have MUCH respect for the talent displayed by the BAS team in producing such a high quality addon...and I hope that we will also earn their respect and that of the communities when ours is released.

Yes it was updated...the current picture is one of the Force Recon Units...although the project isnt focused on Spec Ops, there will be a couple of Force Recon units included in order to allow mission editors additional freedom in design.

Looks like these guys are moving in the right direction in regard to the need for Russian items: http://redstar.ofprc.net/index.php

Some new 'war torn' buildings would be great too...maybe some with holes in the walls with piles of brick and rubble around them, etc.

Nice work BAS!

In regard to multiplay, we have a pack of conglomerated addons on our dedicated server that the mission makers who frequent our server use. It really adds alot to mp gameplay having new weapons and great new toys to play with in multiplay. You can grab the pack at www.digitalgrenade.com and the server info is available there as well. If your looking to add a little something new to the game in the multiplay realm, swing by and check it out!

One has already been made...Im not sure where you might be able to find it, but it is included with Capt. Moores FBI soldier...the addon is named 'CptMooreMod1'
-
works ok with multiple models here.
-
yes...you can use TGA in game, but SUMA said that they are a big performance hit.
-
Thats why its good to have them all together...that way if they have the marines they have the rifles too
