Vietnam the Experience: Discussion
Snake Man replied to Snake Man's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
More than one, hehe... umm yes, like 24 :D Not only that but terrains have good quality OFP texturing, meaning 12800 x 12800 satellite texture/mask which looks identical to how the texturing was in OFP. On most terrains this is 1 pixel per 1 meter quality. VTE will be on direct http download and most likely on torrent also, I'm interested to see if that helps the initial downloading rush. On more developer note, the v1.3.5 upgrade is out and we are already working on v1.3.6 where we fill out few missing items and hopefully can do something for few more "critical" bugs. -

Snake Man replied to Snake Man's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Today we put out another private test version which has long changelog, with every version we get it more and more enjoyable in MP. I hardly can find any bugs now on usual missions. Changelog can be seen in official VTE forum. -
Squint - the sqf editor and error-checker
Snake Man replied to sbsmac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : Community Made Utilities
Is this strictly for projects, or all even one file saved like this? What I mean is, if I start Squint, drag a single sqf there, fool around a bit and then for whatever reason I have to exit quickly... is the results saved, is the file modified by default or does it only save projects. If even one file is saved, then it definitely needs to other way around; if you like this feature, turn it ON from Settings/Editor/Misc dialog. -

We have just started testing another version of VTE privately, so far there is good progress on making it better even as of today there is no errors when playing in MP which is only thing I actually do nowadays. Lot of broken stuff fixed, tweaked and improved. Only thing I feel bad right now, is that we get to play this privately and you public guys don't, yet there are still few remaining issues to sort out before public release is possible. -
But no building placement? Size? You are NOT to add the terrain object addons INTO your terrain pbo, never ever do this, its wrong. You just use the objects from their own pbo as you have now used BIS objects, simple as that.

Has this terrain anything to do with World Tools?

Snake Man replied to Snake Man's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Development proceeds at mad cat pace, very good progress and nice fixes are being done. Also I'm surprised how much positive feedback I've gotten from the testing team. Our linux dedicated server runs with several new missions. Things are looking good. More testers would of course help. -
ARMA 2: OA beta build 73251
Snake Man replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
We might celebrate it if BIS would fix the RPT file profiles path which renders these betas useless for development work. -

Testing has started for the VTE full version. Soon our dedicated server will be updated so we can do some MP missions. -
Where did the PMC Editing Wiki page fall short on explaining how to do wound textures? I don't care about credits for me/our wiki, I care about if the page is difficult to understand as it seems you were not able to find it useful.

how to use quesh-avgani houses?
Snake Man replied to shezan74's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Since OFP times it has not been required to ask permissions to use objects from external pbo, everyone knows this. If you TAKE someones objects, ADD them into your PBO, then you are taking the objects and showcasing them as your own, THEN you need to ask permissions. It makes no sense whatsoever to ask permissions to use objects which the author intended for people to use in the first place. With this ideology, do I need a permission to play someones mission? Maybe I need to send private message to BIS the next time I want to play Warfare? Come on guys, stop spreading this completely false information which the newbie community guys reads as facts. -

Snake Man replied to shezan74's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
You don't need to ask permissions to use external pbo in your terrain project. Nowhere in his post he was saying he will take the models and add to his addon/mod/terrain files so we assume the normal terrain design, objects are referenced from their original pbo and for that, you don't need permissions. -
CAT Afghanistan v1.6 for ArmA 2 by PMC. This is Afghanistan terrain and objects addon from Operation Flashpoint ported into ArmA 2. Its a advanced port, several modeling errors were fixed, textures merged and models optimized as well as config tweaked. No content have been added (except terrain has no ocean now, ie this is a terrain, not an island) or removed. Also the terrain uses now satellite texture / mask. There are no soldiers or vehicles in this addon. Read online manual: here. Download PMC_CAT_Afghanistan_v1.6.rar - 289mb. Mirror 1: Armaholic.com. Mirror 2: Armedassault.info. All mirrors are very much appreciated, thank you.

Possible to add wound textures via hex editor ?
Snake Man replied to massi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : ADDONS - Configs & Scripting
The wound textures come from config.cpp not from model. Check PMC Editing Wiki: Wound textures for details. -
Yes its not finished, nowhere in my post there is any mention that this is final version. I would want to fix those textures on objects and satellite, any help would be great. So please post bug reports / feedback and I'll see what I can do to fix issues.

Wow guys, I had expected 0 feedback so I'm amazed of so many replies. Thanks for each and every one of you taking the time to post (and I even got one private message). Yes my initial first post was bit misleading on couple of things, I've now updated it and here is what I changed: This is extremely long mission and therefore is not for everyone, it will take several hours to complete this mission. This mission requires Dedicated Server, the two objectives will not show up as tasks on Hosted server. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we develop and play on dedicated server and at this time adding support for hosted servers is not withing our scope. Other than that, if any of you have seen PMC missions/projects since OFP 2001 release you know that our missions are always... well not strange, but different. For example this free-roam type of dozens of minutes of boredom and few seconds of horror type game play. To me its very fulfilling to hunt down and sometimes even getting bit frustrated not to see any enemies is "dozens of minutes" and then bump into enemy all of the sudden. Absolutely I agree that this is not the game play style for most people, sometimes even I don't want to run around long time without action. Just a side note, I have fast paced action mission coming soon/next where the average mission duration is about 20-30min and I guarantee you to be killed several times (depending on your skill of course) and to achieve several kills :D But speaking of PMC Persistent 1 mission, I could of course increase the amount of objectives and decrease the amount of victory condition (1400 OPFOR KIAs), but dunno really about the balance, if you guys want to suggest some numbers I'm all ears? Thanks for everyone who has posted, you have no idea how valuable those posts have been :)

I'm hopeful that the single player works... -
Apology accepted. No harm done :) And again I thank you for the advices/help you gave me on PM, its very much appreciated and your every word has been saved so I can truly learn from them. I'm hoping to cooperate with you in the future, to improve my skills and for me to provide help to others (our wiki) from what I've learned. Maybe in the mix I can help you also if there is anything I can do :) I definitely want to learn and fix the sharp edge satellite feature seen here and in my other terrain.

Excuse me? I was discussing about this addon some time ago in my dev circles and mentioned that since Takistan is such Afghan theme, dunno if I even want to release CAT Afghanistan, it was then requested quite enthusiastically that please do release this one. So I did. Yes, you gave those advices when I was in final steps of putting this release together, I appreciate the advices and try to improve my photoshop skills, but if any results, they will show up on my future releases. In other words, the timing of those advices was too late for this release which was already on way during our discussion. True, that's why I never claimed it to be one. Ah I can see now, you're just pulling trouble out of thing air, makes your earlier comments be seen in different light already. Okay now you are totally out of line, comment all you want about artistic parts of the release but don't come saying something that is completely false. The guide is to help people make technically sound addons, not to teach modeling tricks or texturing skills. This release I made is technically sound, sure there are couple of RPT errors which I'm working on, but other than that, feel free to point out how this is wrongly done. I'm very saddened by such hostility, I mean did I do something wrong as you act like this? Something on those ArmA 2 roads that make them different for OFP/ArmA ones. Yes, mentioned in the manual. So? It never was in this projects scope to add higer resolution terrain. I mentioned in the manual that there is texture streching, so we sort of can play this both ways, but yeah, known issue and mentioned in the manual. Then you have totally missed the point of CAT Afghanistan port. Why on earth I would release OFP quality addon for presenting Afghanistan terrain when BIS has just released excellent takistan? The whole idea of this addon is to have that "OFP catintro" feeling. Guys, I really don't understand where these ideas come from. I never said this is competion for OA, hehe. Heard that one before. As general comment to the mood of this topic I find it interesting that so much utterly worthless crap gets released in the community but nobody says a word, then when I put out properly (technically!) ported addon I get lynched on the forum. Real nice community here eh. I have absolutely no problem with constructive criticism as feedback, I take that against no feedback any day, but most of the replies in this topic is made with totally wrong assumptions (and some with pure hostility I might add). I would very much like you guys to understand that. Oh and I guess its pointless to say that, if you don't like the addon, don't say nothing and move along...

Eh why? It is already fully in the post I made above.

I've been thinking of asking Xeno about how to port many times on chat's but didn't want to bother him, because I think its documented, somewhere, even here on BIS forums I think TankBuster or someone started topic about it. In fact I would need to port it to PMC 51km Desert terrain also, so the knowledge would do much good. We'll see :) Anyways. I just posted in official VTE forum that the full version development has started :) -
I run my o2/visitor with -profiles=P:\ parameter, then it creates Users dir there, where I copied/edited some more beefy settings. Its the <UserName>.ArmAProfile file. Nope, for ArmA 2, the latest version can be found on Six-Updater.
