  1. How essential is the FAA weapons mod to complete the campaign? I'm getting a weird Arma behavior when running this mod (warped start-up screen image, similar to the view one can experience during "falling through" game world in many games; game freezes when i load up a scenario). My guess is that there might be a mod conflict somewhere, but i really don't feel like testing all 50 mods i have running one by one against FAA mod. So, will I be able to finish the campaign without the mod, or will there be a total cliffhanger with error message on mission 3 or 4?
  2. CBA - essential for most major mods SLX Mod (will change your Arma 2 experience quite radically, in a good way) RKSL Counter measures JTD's smoke and fire FLIR Pistolified Tracers Sound of War (SOW) mod OMON addon Land-Tex 3 mod Reduced building texture mod Reduced Grass mod GTD's mods Sakura's fx mods Extra units mod SDP AA Cannon fix Mi-28 addon Little Birds addon TRSM's tracked vihicle sounds Dynamic weather mod CAA1 + OAC core (download Afghani island for it too) Drawing distance fix (although this one causes a CTD for me after 20 or so mins of play). Stick together mod Driving distance fix mod FNC Muzzle velocity RAF Chinook addon Royal Marines addon All should run without conflicts. Only one that caused serious issues for me was FAA Weapons 1.1 mod (basically after Arma loads I get a warped picture similar to "underwater view", and game freezes after attempting to load a scenario), which is ironically needed for this campaign. I've deactivated the mod and the first campaign mission is running fine so far, so i don't know if this one is absolutely essential (probably is, which i will find out later).
  3. Why bother creating shortcuts when there is this around: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=81060 Drop Arma 2 Launcher into your main Arma 2 folder (just drag and drop the .exe from rar archive), tweak how you want to run your Arma (i.e., no slash, -winxp and etc.; I do not recommend setting CPU count to 8 through launcher as it caused my system to drop to 4 fps every time an aircraft wreck was present on screen, do it through nvidia control panel instead). Launcher automatically detects what mods you have in your Arma 2 folder every time you run it and activating/deactivating mods simply becomes a matter of putting or removing a checkmark. To properly install a mod: 1) download the mod, 2) create @ModName folder, 3) inside @ModName folder create an additional folder called Addons, and drop the mod .pbo and .bisign file(s) into Addons, 4) some mods (eg., JTD's smoke mod) might have an additional .hpp file; if such file is present than create a folder named Userconfig in your main Arma 2 folder, inside that folder create a separate ModName folder and drop .hpp there (Userconfig folder is good for multiple mod folders). 5) .bikey files go into Keys folder already present in your main Arma 2 folder (although from my understanding those files are for server use only). Rinse and repeat for every mod individually. Running 48 mods at this point with no problems and absolutely don't get how can people tolerate playing vanilla Arma :p

    [CAMP] Chesty Puller

On 4th mission, and enjoying this immensely so far. A similar campaign from Russian perspective would be most welcome as well (without USMC preferably).

    Muzzlevelocity

Using a mod manager would certainly solve that problem. Personally, this will be my 42nd mod which I'm dropping into my Arma 2 folder, all running simoultaneously. http://arma2.ar.funpic.de/?page_id=7

    ArmAII-Mark

Still does not explain why people with GT series of videocards and older CPUs are getting scores of up to 7000, while GTX people are struggling to get 3k. Even one GTX series GPU should be sufficient to run this game smoothly on "high" settings and at least 3k view. As for Win 7, I'm sort of on the last straw with this game - don't have the time or energy for another reinstall.

    ArmAII-Mark

OK, wtf! I see people with much lower system specs getting scores of 5000-6000, while I struggle to get 3200 with "Normal" settings. Q9300@3.0GHz 2xGTX260 SC in SLI with 186.18 driver P5N72-T Premium Mobo (Nvidia nForce 780i SLI chipset) 4 gig RAM Raptor 2 HD XP 32 bit (clean install, switched from Vista Ultimate just for this game - at this time I pretty much only have ARMA2 on this system). No matter how I tweak, I get between 2700 and 3200 on Arma2 mark. Game is unplayable if i set distance to anything above 2600m! :butbut:
  8. Or use an "aftermarket" community-made Arma 2 launcher (there are a few on Armaholic) - much better and more flexible way to run mods, especially when you start running 10+ mods.

    Patch 1.04 suggestions

Performance optimization Performance optimization... ...and Performance optimization! Getting scores of 2500-3000 in Arma 2 Mark with Q9300@3.0GHz and 2xGTX260 SC SLI system is just wrong (with everything on "Normal").
  10. NAPA and Insurgents are simply begging to be replaced with an Islamic militant groups. Would be interesting to see a mix of "rags and sandals" militants in traditional clothing (Afghani look) and more kitted out Jihadists (Chechen terrorist look). Will work great for fighting both Marines and Russian troops. Scenario makers will be happy :)
  11. Great work, but will something be done about rotor blades? They look pretty hideous and intrusive, especially in cockpit view (compared to BIS stock helicopters). Is cockpit still WIP? Will you add flare countermeasures script to this beauty?

    OKB 915 addons for ArmA2

It seems that more or less uniform camo scheme had been selected in the last few years: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/T-90_armyrecognition_russia_011.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/23/BTR-90.jpg This seems to be the new camo standard (which ARMA 2 got correct for the most part). There are quite a few standard dark green older vihicles left in stock, so green BMD-1 is quite acceptable. If there is ever a BMD-4 mod, something like this would be more accurate: http://www.military-today.com/apc/bmd_4.jpg To Soul Assassin - A+ work! Oxuenno!
  13. Haven't been shot down once with F16 tbh, so yeah they work.
  14. I think he meant it as a temporary remedy of the fact that F16 has no competition atm. No countermeasures for other aircraft and pathetic 2 R73 loadout for Su-34. We need Su-27 or better Su-35 with sexy 3d thrust vectoring, otherwise it's just target practice for F16!

    Ambient Combat Module

I need some help as well. No matter what I do in the config I get the same couple of helicopters and a few friendly/enemy armored units aimlessly loitering around the map. I waited for over 5 mins on x4 time for something epic to happen - no luck there. Here are the contents of my init.sqf (placed in mission folder): Any suggestions?

    russian vs georgian infantry battle

    1) Terrorists are not people. 2) It takes time to become a mature democracy. US was a deeply racist, class devided society not so long ago... Comparing Russia to what i assume is supposed to be Switzerland, is beyond moronic. Russia is a very large, very multi-ethnic country, it'll never be a nice clean democracy in a Western European sense. It's simply to large and too many compromises have to be made. Btw, if you mention that Chechnya was wrong to a Russian, or compare the actions to terrorist scum like IRA, you might lose a couple of front teeth (without "getting mad" theatrics). You won't think it's funny, but you'll have a killer smile for later :D Just an FYI...

The Cause 2 (SP campaign Idea WIP)

I'm an opposite to eirulan on this - less melodrama and more tactically sound action. Soldier does not have neither time nor access for love stores, personal vengence quests or anything of that sort. Looking for "war crimes" was bad enough in the campaign. More interesting, IMHO, concept would be a rotation of a life of Russian Forward Operating Base in the middle of guerilla insurgency. Rushing to the aid of an ambushed re-supply convoy, fending off a determined night attack, search for downed gunship, sudden sniper attacks, conducting recon patrols (sometimes with contact and sometimes without to add to the tension) all sound more interesting to me. Personal aspect could be developed in relationship of soldiers posted at base - some becoming heroes, some cowards, some dying and some slipping into madness. A platoon sized unit would provide plenty of characters. Would be a more belivable plot, and that will add greatly to the immersion (at least for me).
  19. Would be very nice if the system could be retrofitted to all aircraft in game (besides civilian mi-8) since all of them do have flares in real life. I've never seen a video of a Hind going on an attack run without a liberal use of flare countermeasures.
  20. BTR-80 - still most common APC for entire ex-USSR. T-80 T-55 for insurgents/CDF/NAPA Proper T-90 T-62 for Russian forces/CDF T-64 for CDF (as their nicest MBT) Su-27/Su-35/Mig-29/Mig-35 - whatever will work, need something for air battles with a wonderful F-16 addon. Current Russian lineup is all bombers. Su-24 - still most common ground attack plane after Su-25 for RuAF. Tu-22 would be very nice to see as well (although map might be too small for it). MT-LB with some newer turret upgrades (vanilla version would be cool to see as well). BMP-T - that thing is simply too cool not to add. Nicknamed "Terminator" for a good reason. 3S25 Sprut self propelled artillery IL-76

    Language

I'm surprised that living in Czech respublic, the devs could not find better Russian speaking voice actors. Russian troops saying "Da sir" is beyond redicolous (as many other commands that do not sound natural at all). It appears that they ran English sentences through an online translator and passed it in game as Russian.

    russian vs georgian infantry battle

-Ossetian volonteers did more harm than good in the fighting (besides the 300 who remained in Tshinkvali) - most were contained at Java and Roki tunnel by Russian troops to prevent looting/fraticide and other things resulting from unorganized ego-centric rabble going into combat. -Units going into S.Ossetia was actually one of the poorest equipped formations in the Russian forces - North Caucasus Military District is a mostly geared for COIN ops and is not the greatest formation to use for a conventional battle with a modern-eqipped enemy (and the result was many, many fvckups that should have not been there). The only reson why the NCMD was mobilized for the operation was proximity to the conflict zone. Majority of troops went through the tunnel in an ad hoc fashion, up to 20% of vihicles broke down on the way. Most of the armor that went in, was actually inferior to Georgian equipment. - Georgians were never issued M16s. They had some Bushmaster knock-offs of M4 carabines, 200 G36s (with a resulting scandal in Germany), and mostly AK74 rifles. They had superior armor, comms and a very good AA network (which they failed to utilize). Good read: http://www.navoine.ru/articles/yuzhnaya-osetiya/347 And even better pictures to go with it: http://www.navoine.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?p=551#551 ---------- Post added at 07:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:44 PM ---------- These are the people Russians are fighting against, not "close to it".
  23. I enjoy the whole package to be honest. Yes there are bugs, yes it ticks me off that a GTX260 SLI system barely makes 24 fps in campaign, however making such a huge deal out of a $50 dollar purchase is ridicolous. I spent $150 at a bar last night, and I don't have anything to show for it but a hangover. ARMA 2 already provided me with close to 50 hours of solid gameplay, which is more that i can say for other more polished but ultimately boring products. It's not fanboism, i couldn't care less about BIS to be honest, but the product is unique, and there is easily 50 bucks worth of enjoyment in it.
  24. With attack helicopters, Hind is still the speed king. 210 mph making it world's fastest attack helicopter.

    MI28 Project

Yes it is. Mi-28 was approved for serial production in Mi-28N variation. http://www.kommersant.com/page.asp?idr=500&id=-7852 Currently there are around 60 in service, with plans for expanding the fleet to around 300 (70 on order for this year i believe). Mi-28A is pretty much obsolete and is a dead project. Due to lack of funds in the '90s none were built besides test models/prototypes. Development cycle continued however. There is a version without radar and FLIR which is called Mi-28D as well.
