I'd like to have seen Arma III have some "neutral" faction setting. Not again "good west" vs. "evil other". For example some not locatable and not specified "North Alliance" vs. "South Alliance" (west vs. east again would be too obvious). With a "real" (near future, but already producable by mankind, i.e. no plasma guns or whatever) weapon and equipment setup in a "real" world but with exchangable/undefined/fictional factions.
-
I know about that upcoming independent faction. I am already using the editor. I just mean the overall setting is again about (despite of a certain degree of futurity and fiction) "a real country" vs "another real country" (seemingly something like "NATO fights Iran in Greece"). No, I don't go and play another game (before somebody suggests)... also this faction-issue is NOT game-breaking. Just want to have said that the setting this time might have made "neutral" (so that players don't fight by default for or against existing countries) :)

Separate options for DOF, Blur and Glare, Ambient Occlusion ?
roguetrooper replied to grandstack's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I don't like PP. I also don't understand how that blur can be liked by anyone in the cinema. I think, it is unrealistic and especially irritating. When you focus with your eyes an unsharp area of the screen, it remains unsharp whereas your brain expect it to become sharp when you focus it. The edges of your (own's eyes) FOV are unsharp already anyway. -
Ambience and Weapon sound out of balance a bit?
roguetrooper replied to BorisLozac's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I never play with headphones but I'm afraid to shoot in Arma III during (real) night (without turning down the overall volume so that other sounds can be heard). I don't want the neighbours to shout at me "Cease fire, goddammit!" :D -
Wouldn't it be better to have only a SINGLE command to add things to a soldier and to the cargo space of vehicles and boxes: object additem item; To make additem an automated all-purpose command that recognizes the object that is to be filled and the item that is packed into something (the first NV goggle added goes to the NVG slot, further ones into the vest/backpack). Do we really need three different commands for crates and three more for infantry plus the -global variants? Further, why is there a need of global-variant of the existing commands? Shouldn't a crate that everybody can see in to world automatically have the same content for everybody? Of course, the old commands can't be removed now since scripts of BIS and the community wouldn't work any longer.

Is there already a list of faces for A3 that can be setup with description.ext: class CfgIdentities { class id0 { name = "Max Power"; face = "Default"; glasses = "None"; speaker = "Male01EN"; pitch = 1.00; }; }; and unit setidentity "id0"; ?

Arma 3 during the day, and DayZ at night messes with you a bit...
roguetrooper replied to campaign_junkie's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The first thing with a new game I get is always spending half an hour in the configuration menus. I never understood why people complain about keys and such while everything can be configured... Do you install it and hop straight into a map without having a look at controls and configs? -
The first thing I noticed standing at the coast: They have removed/changed that really annoying wind/wave sound that drove me crazy in Arma II. A3 is fine now.

Option to place HUD elements wherever you like?
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I forgot to request an option for the transparency (individually for each item/window). Maybe from 5% to 100%. The enemy-spot compass currently is too far off. Might sound stupid at the first glance, but it would be more usefull near (few cm below) the crosshair position (if enabled or not). When all these things are fully configurable concerning position and opacity, everybody can arrange everything to his desires. Maybe the only restriction should be that things are not allowed to overlap. Especially the hint-window CAN be very long. -
There should be an option to place all HUD elements where you like (chat, weapon/ammo, ESPECIALLY GPS, clock, compass and everything that I forgot). Not necessarily ingame but from a graphics/gameplay menu.

Deadfast's Third Person View for ARMA 3
roguetrooper replied to Deadfast's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Does it mean that the default 3rd person view will be changed (without the need of an addon)? :) Or at least an option to configure it to your likes? E.g. defining the side the camera is positioned and the default zoom factor... Edit: Nice work of course, Deadfast. But to have such a thing in the vanilla version would be even better :o -
BLUFOR can wear OPFOR clothing (a fact, no request)
roguetrooper posted a topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
When a civilian player unit is subordinate to an existing or not existing BLUFOR unit (i.e. that civilian is BLUFOR'ified), he can wear any uniform (at least ingame from a box, haven't checked scripting yet). This works also the other way round of course. Btw, are there ANY differences between civilian and soldier classes (max cargo, running speed, endurance etc)? -
Currently the total weight a unit carries does also not seem to influence the max speed.

BLUFOR can wear OPFOR clothing (a fact, no request)
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
As I stated above, I was not talking about the civilian side. With these mentioned means there can be OPFOR sided units wearing BLUFOR stuff and BLUFOR wearing OPFOR. -
It looks and feels great. The environment, landscape design, units, vehicles, sounds, functions, gameplay... everything. Everything is smooth and pleasant. Even the Alpha (not regarding some bugs, but that's what an Alpha is made for, so to speak). Arma III is not the best game of its kind. It is the ONLY game of its kind (as every game of the Armaverse has been).

ArmA3 Classnames - no discussions
roguetrooper replied to memphisbelle's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Has anyone the class names that do not show up within the editor already, such as guns and inventory stuff? Edit: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147502-SIX-Config-Browser-Editing-resource-ARMA-3-Alpha-available -
[Feature Request] 180 degree turn
roguetrooper replied to mr_centipede's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Double tabbing your "infantry move backwards" key would be good for this. But it should only be possible in an upright posture (not kneeling or lying). -
One of those persons that seemingly never use the MAIN FEATURE of the Arma series: THE EDITOR. Anything beside the editor (and thereby SP and MP missions) is just filling compound and by-product. Place any infantry unit that you like as the player, put all existing ammo boxes beside it and feel free to use any alpha weapon with any alpha gear/outfit. Then place some enemy groups and you have a complete game. When you want to fight in a certain outfit but on a different side, just subordinate your unit/group to a non-existing (probability of presence 0%) higher ranked unit.

The command setovercast seems to have no effect. Only the editor intel settings are applied (setfog works fine). * started the map with editor intel overcast "0" * trigger with condition "true" and 0 setovercast 0.85 * "setfog" is not performed while the clouds are changed (in Arma 1 or 2 times it was said that only one thing at a time can be changed: overcast OR fog). --- Sorry for spam post. There is already a thread about this.

There should be an option (action menu, configurable key or mouse-clicking the radio in the map screen (as in Arma 2)) to turn off the radio. Imagine this (or setup in the editor): * two hostile groups with 20/30 or more units each * player is member of one group When the groups engage each other, the voice chat is "horrible" (not programmed in a bad way). I know, among modern armies there is a lot of intense chat even with few persons involved. In my own maps I usually script a radio turn off/on action menu to be able to flee from "exaggerated/annoying" chat. Would be nice to have such a function hard-coded.

When starting the alpha there should be a big unavoidable screen that has to be confirmed saying "This is alpha. Alpha comes before beta. And even beta is not a final status. This version is alpha and thereby 'naturally' containing bugs." But indeed, of all Arma 3 games ever it's still the best. Glad you shared this review with us.

This thread will probably be spammed away within three minutes... However, it would be fine to be able to configure startline parameters ingame. Maybe by an input field where you can directly type startline commands into (taking effect at the next game start). Such as: -nosplash -world=empty -noLand -skipIntro -showScriptErrors -cfg=arma2.cfg -cpuCount=4 -maxMem=8192 Btw, how can you configure such lines in steam games (I never used steam before)?
-
Addings Quake- or Unreal- jumps to Arma would be the worst bullshit ever. You can already climb over obstacles like small walls and fences. Further, in the real world no single soldier has ever performed such a kiddy-game jump. However, Mirror's Edge might be a good game for people requesting this.

I'm new and I'm lost / Some help for those new to the fold?
roguetrooper replied to mr_hanky's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
lol ? www.fraps.com Further remind that the main feature of the Armaverse is the EDITOR (and thereby the source for MP and SP missions), not any campaigns, prefigured missions, mods or whatever. The editor is also the best place to learn the game. Put whatever you want onto the map and play around with it and thereby configuring your controls and graphics. -
So for the Alpha you are forced to be online to play A3 even in SP/editor mode (can only be started by logging into your steam account). Will there be a box version that can be bought physically in a real-world-shop? On x pages you can read x+1 different versions. That steam crap annoys me (concerning the final version, of course an Alpha is not available in another way). I don't want to be forced to be online even for the SP/editor mode, and especially I don't want to log into the steam account (just created for A3!) each time I start A3.
