    Confirmed release dates and countries.

505 release is still confirmed for the 16.02.2007! Uh yeah, but the 505 doesn't include United States....... So as it stands right now, there is absolutely no news about this game ever being released in the United States. At least no news from BIS anyway. Their refusal to post anything makes me truly believe that this game will not be coming to the United States at all. Prolly for the best anyway, American gamers usually expect that their games work properly. We dont usually settle for buggy games that have had 10 years to work on problems that still aren't fixed. Who needs a US publisher if you have the internet. Stop winging about it and just pre-order the game at one of the X locations it is available and you'll have t around the release date. And your last line is just so wrong. Uh, yeah . You didn't hear a stich of whining from me. I really no longer care if the game is released in the U.S.(Haven't card since before it was released anywhere lol) I was replying to other peoples'(*whiner's as you like to call them) posts that were asking about a U.S. release. Also, I believe my last line is very correct. Everyone knows that Armed Assault is full of bugs, most of which are left over from OFP. Go have a look at any website for a game in the U.S. and see how many posts are in the support forum, by people that want their game fixed. We may get buggy games, but we don't settle for them.We get them fixed, or we get rid of them. Broken games do not last in the American market. I',m not talking about a few glithces or bugs to work out, but have a look at the support forum for ArmA already. There are many/most of the well known bugs from OFP in there, as well quite a few more. Only reasonable replies anyone gets is "well just look at what the game is capable of, not what it does". That is utterly rediculous. By that standard, I could just sell a game engine and say "well it wont really do anything you want it to, but if you learn C++, and code the game in there, it will act the way you expect it to"..... Any direct replies should point to where BIS says they are planning an American release, otherwise it is just pointless arguing. Oh, and yeah about the politics thing. I was just throwing a little sarcasm in there. S-A-R-C-A-S-M- it means to say something completely ridiculous in response to another comment/topic. Â Glad I could get everyone all mad lol. Just remember folks- it's just a game, not your life, don't take everything so damn personal. Â

ROFL Â Â So what was that game called? Â Ummm, oh yeah, that's it! Â BF2?!? Â pff, yeah, people buy it-are greatly disapointed-wait for patches to fix it-and never play it again. Well, to answer the question, no it doesn't include BF2(which I do not play). However I do not blame the people for buying and playing games like BF2. There are no decent games getting released in the U.S. Oh and don't forget that BF2 sold very well in UK as well. So don't go stereotyping Americans into the arcade gaming fools, Brittish are just the same. Most of the sales are to kids that don't know what a good game is. Why is it that anyone that complains about no American release is labeled a fool, but everyone at the forums(well 90%), cried and cried for a year about a release for the game? If it isn't going to be released in the states, then there are some very legit complaints to be made by Americans and Canadians alike. Or is it just because U.S. still has the 'will' to keep fighting against dictators now that communists aren't knocking at everyones door? lol maybe we should tell Korea they can have Northern Asia, Europe and Australia, Give all of the middle East to Iraq and Keep Rest of the world for ourselves. I still believe that BIS doesn't want a release in U.S. because they are afraid of being overwhelmed by everyone asking "When is this gonna be fixed" && "When is the next patch coming". It's not really a big mystery why almost all games are produced by very large companies now, small time programmers just don't have the skill it takes to produce the kind of quality that people want for their money. I really hoped that BIS could break that particular way of thinking agian, but it looks like they won't. And once again, I get slammed for making a good point on this forum. Love how everyone here thinks they're so mature, and not like 'other' gaming communities, while at the same time nobody posts any information to prove me wrong, they just slam the other stuff I say because they know my point is valid.

uh huh.....Codemasters is UK company. I can either get through Morphicon.de or wait for UK version. But I guess not having a cookie right now is equal to never having one. Uh yeah, they may be a UK based company, but they were responsible for distribution in the U.S. Funny that noone argues about no talk from BIS about intent for U.S. publisher though. Wonder why that is..... Oh, and another thing, maybe if there was a quality War sim on the market in the last 5 years there would be a market for them. People gravitate to Battlefield, and Ghost Recon and such because they are as close to sim as they can get their hands on. I always see all this talk on forums about how Americans buy crappy games and they shouldn't play games like Battlefield and Quake. They are the only games out there. I know about 50 gamers in real life, and of the 50 I would say that 45 of them would rather a real 'sim' game like ArmAss is supposed to be, than Battlefield2 or Quake. In fact they have been waiting for a very long time(like everyone else)for ArmAss to come out. But no one is gonna shell out 100$$+ for a damn video game(well 1 in 50 will)that they then have to do extra work to even play.Trust me, with proper advertising and a quality 'sim', there would be a huge market in the states. Though not likely that will happen any time soon. It really seems that most people here have a very prejudiced attitude towards Americans, and that includes BIS themselves. I have seen very little about Armed Assault on American gaming sites, and have seen even less talk from BIS about bringing their game(s) to the American market. I am not claiming to know anything here. I only call it like I see it. If there is someone out there with info. that leads me to believe something different than show me. I would love to be proved wrong on this.

LMFAO, it's not even gonna be released in the U.S. Doesn't anyone get that yet? BIS has made absolutely no effort to assure Americans that there will be a release date, or a publisher. Apparently they hold a grudge against all Americans for the lousy treatment they got from Codemaster. Their loss though. Who needs a few million more dollars anyway? Apparently not BIS.

Do You want PunkBuster in Armed Assault?

I really must support the idea of BIS making their own anti-cheat system, but in order to do that they would have to do a LOT of research into how game hacks are made. i.e. memory hacking, DirectX hooking and engine hooking. I think it would take at least a year to R&D a comprehensive anti-cheat system. On the other hand, Punkbuster would be a waste of time and resources. Not only has Punkbuster been hacked to pieces by game hackers, but all games protected by Punkbuster become immediate targets for the hackers that hack other Punkbuster games. Also if the PBSS(Punkbuster screenshot) has been disabled in all the other Punkbuster protected games, there is no reason at all that the same couldn't be done with a different version of the in game screenshot type of protection. Obviously, some sort of anti-cheat software IS needed, but unfortunately nothing currently exists that can realisticly stop the cheaters. The only decent thing currently available is the ability for an admin to follow a player around in game and judge if they are playing legit.

Do You want PunkBuster in Armed Assault?

Adding PunkBuster to ArMa would be completely pointless, as there are many people who already cheat in PunkBuster servers. All you need is a private cheat, i.e. one that nobody else has, and it will never catch you And please, no posts arguing this point,I can easily point anyone to many sites that offer these cheats for download(but I won't-so don't even ask ), or supply you with the code, if you are a programmer. Some of the stuff currently availabe is: Â anti PB screenshot, Hardware un-ban, Hardware spoofer. Anyway BIS should make their own anti-cheat, if they intend to use one. PB is already cracked as well as VAC, we need something new and improved.

    Terrain, my main concern....

I have an idea, how about making sandbags as a part of carryable inventory, so you could order soldiers to pick them up and place them wherever you want them. Thus giving you cover anywhere on the map that you want it. Would solve the problem of cover and wont have to be part of terrain. These wide open spaces are great, if your on the side that has the greatest weapon range, but what if your not on that side. You're gonna need a place to hide until the enemy gets into range of your weapons, otherwise they can just stand and shoot without having to worry about getting shot back. Â Â

    Terrain, my main concern....

Maybe I can clarify things a little. When I spoke of streaming terrain, I meant exactly that. With this new technique, theoretically, one could use the whole world as the terrain, and not have a major impact on playability. When I spoke of DirectX Engine, maybe I should have been more specific, and state DX9 Engine. DX9, along with its use of Hardware T&L(transform & lighting), is capable of a lot more than any other previous 3D software. However without going into a lengthy discussion about what this means it would have been difficult to explain to non-programmers what this is. And as fas as taking offense; Where I come from we don't use foul language when criticizing someone, and we don't call complete strangers things like "dude". Anyway, to get back on topic, if BIS makes full use of the new technologies available now that weren't available when OPF came out, the level of detail and realism should be far better than anything seen before. Whether BIS chooses to put ditches/foxholes/trenches in the ground is entirely upto them, however it is entirely possible to do so without major impact on framerate. Probably not possible without major overhaul of the engine though.

    Terrain, my main concern....

okay dude, if tou understood the meaning of seperate paragraphs, you would understand that I didn't even hint that Streaming Terrain had anything to do with "clipping" and "culling". And also not everybody in these forums are programmers, so I decided to share a little wisdom. And don't ever call me dude.......thats a name for your mom.
  11. Ronin Warrior

    Terrain, my main concern....

Yeah, exactly. Streaming Terrain means that not all objects have to be rendered at once. Which would make it reasonably easy to create small ditches in the ground, which would make for much better coverage than a bush that can be shot/seen through. Even the fact that it is a DirectX based engine now helps alot 'cause only the visible parts of the map have to be rendered and textured, DirectX doesn't render/texture things that are behind the camera or behind other objects; at least it shouldn't anyway. Considering these two changes to the engine, alot of the things that may have had major impact on frame rate in OPF should not be very taxing on ArA, so there should be room for alot more improvement. I would love to go to one of these islands that have no bumps/large rocks in the ground and no holes

    Walking around on ships?

These are add-ons available for VBS1, and are not part of the core product. So unless some modders decide to make and release them, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for things like the NBC and Artillary modules(NBC module still isn't available to the public for VBS1). The ability to walk around on vehicles however was added to the core by way of patch, so there is a pretty good chance that it will be included in ArA. It does show the capabilities of the new engine though, so these things will be possible to modders if they are willing to try them.
  13. Ronin Warrior

    Walking around on ships?

Oh, it's definitely possible as this has already been implemented in VBS1. It's just a matter of whether or not it will be included in ArA, which I believe was the question asked. Besides, aren't all threads here speculation threads, and I hope for threads? Since the nice people at BIS don't bother answering questions. And if it's gonna go political in the end then I think I'll join the Pirate Party.

    What will be new?

Taken from the  Progress report these are the things that will be new to Armed Assault, and weren't in OFP: Features/Advancements/Enhancements Engine/Graphics DX9 Engine incorporating many of the latest features, including High Dynamic Range rendering Reworked lifelike animations. Fully streaming game engine allowing extremely large environments loaded with various special effects. Environments Environments are richly detailed and varied. New huge sized battlefield (landmass exceeds that of all islands from Flashpoint & Resistance combined) New densely populated battlefield (approximately twice the number of objects on all previous islands combined). Dynamic weather and daytime simulation (including tides and star constellations) Ambient wildlife. Gameplay Large selection of weapons and vehicles. Unique and proven combatant's AI. New island containing large cities with many different, fully accessible buildings. ArmA's campaign features a brand new story-line, with a modern day setting. Campaign's setting and events inspired by real world events, military strategies and political doctrines. Updated controls and command interface. Multiplayer Large, persistent battles. 60+ player multiplayer (plus additional AI), players can join at any time. Unique game modes introducing modes of play not seen in any other game. Hope that helps clear things up a little.
  15. Ronin Warrior

    What will be new?

Dynamic Destructable Buildings are not in VBS1, though it was stated some time ago that this feature will be available, it has yet to be implemented. Â So I doubt it will be a part of Armed Assault.(Unless we are going to wait another year or so for release) VBS1, aside from a few new scripting commands and slightly better AI, is the same as OFP, with a whole bunch of new models and terrain. It has all the same features(and bugs) that OFP had, and no campaign.
