yeah server side will basically need the mod folder containg the porto island and any of the QG addons used in the mission then if any of those are used all clients will need those addons as well, possible in a mod folder, although i would think that with an island and what should be a stock addon u can just drop all that stuff into the main arma addons folders. therefore not fouling yourself of any server that runs modequals in the config and doesn't run the QG mod folder would have to test this for any conflicts, but i would hope that BIS has already done this b4 release and charging people for addons. i'd hate to think we're beta testing another release

as i allready said i think the shader based AA looks better, that isn't a point i'm even gona argue about, the extra B/W of the ring bus allows for a far greater amount of adaptive AA on an ATI/AMD card than it does on a nvidia card
-
2900 is essentially a mid range product, the pro is a cut down XT, and the XT is still not as good as an 8800 GTS. now ATI fanboys will scream that is has more more mem bandwidth blah blah blah but it just isn't as fast as an 8800. on paper it should be better, more stream processors, mem ring bus, but the benchmarks just don't show it. save your money, if anything upgrade to either 8800 SLI or an 8800GTX/ULTRA the ATI/AMD AA looks better than Nvidia's, shader AA i believe they called it, but it still has lower FPS

LOOOOOOL 8600, good luck with that, cut down 8600 at that, have fun watching the slide show

LOOL, and someone said that they thought our banning policy was OTT

so are u trying to run different squad nicks psycho? for a example an RN-INF and an RN-Airbourne and maybe an RN-Armoured, i used my clan as an example not knowing what your clan is? to do this u would need to setup 3 squad systems, ie 3 squad.xml files with different squadnick= in those 3 files and then drop the right player info info into them INF would look something like <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"><?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE squad SYSTEM "squad.dtd"> <?xml-stylesheet href="squad.xsl?" type="text/xsl"?> <squad nick="RN-INF"> followed by <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"><?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE squad SYSTEM "squad.dtd"> <?xml-stylesheet href="squad.xsl?" type="text/xsl"?> <squad nick="RN-Airbourne"> etc etc i would suggest an easy naming system like infsquad.xml airbournesquad.xml i would think that the squad.dtd and style sheet could be the same one if all files are kept in the same folder, otherwise u would need to setup 3 folder systems and extend the XML addy to contain the right folder for the sub squad

should be 256x256 or 128x128, i think it resizes 256's down to 128 but not 100% sure. as for diferent divisions having wrong logos, all our members have individual XML images, we keep the pics in the same folders as the XML files and have no trouble with any members maybe u could try that, should only be a few images, most of our members run multiple XML's for various reasons and have had no problems. if u need some help u can PM me or email me @ john@squadserver.co.uk i should be able to send u examples of our setup and u can tweak it to your uses

well i own an 8800gtx and i never had half the problems that were complained about on here. i never understood why people had such problems. i'm glad the 2900's hold up to arma, i hadn't really looked for a report on them outside of looking at the bench's and its no GTX killer, which i thought it might have been given its late release. i also see AMD/ATI have released a 1GB version for some god forsaken reason.

ban list isn't that big actually, it gets pruned as part of general server maintenance. bans gets lifted, new ones get added etc etc, all part of the job of running servers in fact our ArmA banlist is nonexitent, not one single ID has been added to any of the ban.txt's on any of the servers. -
lol, cancelling a good card to buy something that is worse. and i'm almost guaruntee the 29XX series has all the early problems that Nvidia have allready started dealing with. Good luck with that

CheatIdiots.. and BIS... Question about cheaters..
RN Escobar replied to BLSmith2112's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
well the probelm with banning ID's and endlessly banning ID's is that u end up with the same problem as banning IP's yes the keygen will provide 9-10 digit ID's so u can ban those all day long. however if u know an ID number u can reverse engineer the CD key out of it, meaning that u can end up banning an ID number that hasn't cheated, u keep doing that and you end up banning as many people as if u'd just banned the IP of the cheater. there is no fool proof method of doing it, each server admin has there ways of doing it. @volkov - no matter what ID and IP's u used you wouldn't get the investigation unless u did something to warrant it. our policy isn't too spend all our time sifting through server logs to ban people for the hell of it, but if player X causes a problem then we check the ID IP etc etc running several servers also means our decisions aren't based on one incident on one server. -
if u typed correctly that u added mod= try using -mod= u need the - to let the game know its a switch u want to use

limited spaces means known players and friends get priority, many of the busier servers use this method, its unfortunate for you that u never came back, but not much i can do about that. you made your decisions. and i still stick by our range bans, yes i know that some people will suffer, but for those that can connect, or let us know that player X can't connect and get an IP allowed, they had many a good game free from the cheaters and griefers. its not like we aren't easy to find - a simple google search and we are number 4 on the list, all it takes is a post of the IP's and player names/ID's for an admin to allow some IP's, or at least look into it and make a decision. -
for a dedi server i think dual core is worth it, even if u don't intend on running more than one server, u can lock it too CPU1 leaving CPU0 free for OS etc etc. and whats would be the point of buying hardware that is allready out of date??

cant play in same server with 2 pcs behind router
RN Escobar replied to Roughneck's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
thos IP's are LAN IP's, you actual IP is nothing like that. the server is seeing your real world IP, not the IP assigned by your router. so the server see's 2 clients with the same IP addy, this is what is probably causing your issues connecting to the same server. you might be able to get round it using the -port= switch if that works for the client exe and port forwarding the relevant ports to the right router IP's, this way the server will see 2 clients connecting from the same IP but with different ports, 1 on 2302 and one on 2400 for example, it should then be able to sort out the right info for each player, but i can't guaruntee this. as it stands with 2 clients joining from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:2302 u got no chance. check out teh wiki for -port= help -

and likewise don't come here telling me what i can and can't do on MY server, i pay for the damn thing and i want to IP ban anyone's ass i will -
not the right place, but they go in your user folder, in a folder called "sound" and should be either wav or ogg, ogg is smaller as there is a limit to the overall size and limits can be set on individual file sizes

vista is fine DX10 is fine yeah vista might use slightly more ram than XP, but at the end of the day if u got less than 2GB of ram u need to get more, no matter what OS your using, if u intend on playing ArmA 8800GTX is great, especially since 1.08 patch, on teh odd occasion that there is a hiccup, VISTA restarts the graphics card - NOT THE WHOLE OS, therefore no more BSOD and random restarts due to driver issues. for someone who uses MCE or XP to comment on VISTA is pointless, u are speculating at best, i have seen no performance drop since switching to VISTA, maybe 1-2 FPS but not the 10+ u all claim. if anything VISTA has improved my ArmA experience. unless u have tried the hardware and software keep your speculating opinions to yourselves.

CheatIdiots.. and BIS... Question about cheaters..
RN Escobar replied to BLSmith2112's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
valid point dwarden, but out of those 10000 homes how many play ArmA? so i might lose 2 or maybe 3 honest players from one city or whatever if it keeps my server free from idiots then actually my server gets a better name, and more people come to play because it is free of idiots. ID banning is as useless as u like, Keygens are available, and until u prevent the X many digit ID's from connecting to servers u cannot protect them any other way than but to IP range ban, save for locking the server. with a good firewall and use of netlog u can be pretty accurate with IP bans, and then u can have all kinds of fun with the hackers, drop them from only 1 port, so they can see your full server that would like to ruin, but OH NO they can't connect, and because ArmA is waiting for info, the game has hung, OH DEAR, best reboot your computer and try again, OOPS, its done it again. they get bored of rebooting eventually and give up, meaning not only are they not attacking my server, but for 15 minutes or so, they haven't attacked any other server Esco -

IP banning is a very real option and dynamic IP's make very little difference if u just ban a range, yes u might also ban 1 other clean player who happens to live in the same area but at the end of the day if u want a clean server then sacrifices have to be made if BIS had had the forethought to have enbaled the -netlog command from the word go, then there would be a large amount of information on player names, ID numbers and IP ranges allready available to server admins and with a little time and some usefull programs u can collate all the info u need. ip ***.***.***.*** has connected using 8 different ID numbers, he's using a keygen = BAN id number ########## has connected from 15 different ip ranges, its a warez ID = BAN its not brain surgery, just give us the tools, all i need is Netlog, the many servers i admin give me all the info i need. -
squad server are cheaper than AOW and JOLT and with better equipped servers
