    The Iraq Thread

I saw an interesting quote in today's newspaper, so I searched on the internet for the english translation. I hope it hasn't been posted before, as I really didn't take time to read all 384 pages of posts So, here it is: "Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship." "There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars." "Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." -- Herman Goering as related to Gustave Gilbert at the Nuremberg trials, from the book Nuremberg Diary. Amazing how history repeats itself and as much as we try to stop this trend, we cannot do a thing about it

    The Dogs of War

Well I'm sure other, more 'important' POWs (pilots and other officers), are kept in a more guarded place, where the commandos cannot get in easily. Jessica and other members of that maintenance company aren't of much use to Iraqis as they don't know any valuable information. Regarding the seven POWs shown on TV, I believe they and their families can in fact be happy that they were shown on the television, as this practically guarantess their safe return. They most probably won't be hurt or killed, because that would be really bad propaganda for Iraq. It goes the same for WMDs. If Iraq has any (which I sincerely doubt, but still), they most certainly won't be used, as this would mean a political (and physical) suicide.

    Multiplayer annoyances

Most of all I hate people who play only for their precious frags For example, in battlefield these people 'camp' on top of hills in their abrams tanks (note that they always join West because of fancy hardware like M1A1 and Apache) and shell the respawn areas with HEAT rounds. And when they kill everybody in the village they don't rush for the flag, no way. Instead, they wait in place for the next unfortunate player that spawns in their crosshairs These people really piss me off. I usually sneak up on them and put them into world of hurt with my RPG or satchel charges But it turns out they don't even care, they just snatch another abrams and continue with their mindless slaughter. The next major annoyance are the 'kiddie-admins'. Not a big problem, but I noticed more and more servers are being run by punks who are probably getting beaten in school every day, so they act like badass mofos on the net. A few weeks ago I was on a server with battlefield. The time was set to 30 mins and I politely asked for more time. The admin, however, responded with 'if you don't like the rules, die!'. Not to mention he kept that attitude during the entire game. He even kicked me because I pointed out one of his teammates was cheating (modified noe.pbo, to be precise ). Well, those are the things i hate most. Custom sounds don't bother me too much, they can be quite amusing and funny.
