True, it's a double edged sword. But on the other hand I am getting tired of the dominating publishers, it looks like they feel way more important than the devs. It even goes so far that I can't skip the intro of the publisher, but I can with the one from the dev house. It really shows the mentality, it's just like what's happening in the music industry. More and more revolving around moneygrabbing and increasing the profitmargins, and then they ask themselves why there are so many pirates. I agree with Sputnik Monroe too, it's already heading that way. There come a lot great PC games from both Europe and Russia that aren't dominated by dictating megacorp publishers that want to please as much of targetgroups as possible, preferable the biggest ones. (looks at the downfall of the Rainbow Six series )

Yes, I was suprised too, the pace seems way too fast. It's just plopping down buildings as fast as possible, I want to take my time building up my city, make it look more city like. Instead of building only in the most fast and efficient way. But don't forget the slowdown feature, you don't have to keep that button pressed to slow the game down. If you press F11, you can toggle the slowdown feature on, that way you can play it at an much slower pace. Anno 1404 has an really awesome interface that you can customize, you can even drag the slowdown button to one of the quickbars. :bounce3: Another nice feature that I just discovered, is that you can drag resources from the warehouse to the informationbar in the upperleft corner, so that you can easily eyeball how many of a certain good you have, can be handy in some situations. :) And to be ontopic, I really dislike the DRM. I made a downright stupid choice to buy SH5, won't do that again. If I can't resist, I will buy something from Ubisoft at bargainbin prices, but I rather want to avoid them altogether. If I look around on the net, I can see that Ubi's reputation took a massive hit on the PC market. They should just give buying customers more support and services to stimulate the buying of games, now they are just scaring customers away with it's big brother system. UBI and EA are now in the same boat, both with idiotic DRM's and destroying franchises to appeal their shareholders.

It suprises me that there isn't much talk about MAG on the PS3. MAG premiere trailer I've bought MAG a week ago, and I am enjoying it immensly. Sure, the game is far from perfect, but it really fit's my style, and it depends on team tactics instead of only running and gunning. You play in squads of 8, and each squad has an squad leader that gives orders via the ingame interface. Good leaders use the interface in tandem with the mic, although it's not quite common, yet. The skills tree and experience is reminiscent of that in MW2, but the rest of the game is another ball game. Especially if your squad is part of a clan, the game supports up to 256 players, quite unheard of in a console game. :D In the biggest gamemode, the players are divided over 4 fronts, they have to overcome about three tiers of defences. In the middle of the map the players usually can combine in one big force. The game is purely infantry based combat, the only vehicles that you can drive are APC's. APC's are mobile spawn points for the attacking faction, and if the attackers get the defender's AA down they get extra spawn points in the form of Heli and plane insertions. It has been a long time that I enjoyed a console MP shooter, autoaim is nearly nonexistant and health regen in the form of firstaid kits that have cooldown period. MW2 didn't attract me in the least, but this game did. I am glad that I've bought a PS3 recently.:D The only thing this game needs is more teamwork, even though people get rewarded for it. There is no such thing as too much teamwork. Here's a funny vid that I found that shows some teamwork, the Officer in charge ordered everybody to meet up with each other to form a huge stampede of 128 players. :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_FEbTO8udg

You have to be lucky to get in a good team, it think the community still has some growing up to do. Hopefully it will get better in time, the game is still fresh in retail. If the devs keep their promise to actively supporting this game it may become much better. I played with randoms for most of the time, and playing in a clan is a breath of fresh air. Lot's of communicating going on, we mostly play on sabotage, it's scale is much smaller with 64 players. I discovered yesterday when I went lone wolf to hunt snipers that were harassing my team, that I could hear the enemies speak with each other. The game has some nice touches, even though it's far from perfect. :) If I want some serious stuff, I will fire up ArmA, this is just a nice inbetween. ;)

I remember a function that you could tweak the alignement of the UV maps with. You could tick it to move the UV map in a chosen direction. I've been out of Max and used 2 other apps in the meantime, but I memorize such a setting. Working with 3D apps is fun ey? Problem solving all the way. :D ;)

Well, DX10 and 11 is more a streamlining upgrade, they don't offer much new things as far that I can see. I still remember the deal with Crysis vista, were you could have great graphics with DX10 in Vista. The XP users could do a simple ini tweak to get most of the DX10 features in DX9. So for the most part it runs smoother, that way one could up the older features somewhat to more crispier results with not much of a performance hit, relatively speaking. Last but not least, the trend, better graphics and less challenging gameplay. I wish that most recources would be put into AI instead of all that fapping on cinematic gameplay experiences with 'I win' buttons.

Yes, with OFP:Elite you must have a modded xbox if you want to install mods. I could even install mods for the game Morrowind, they were slightly modified PC mods to run on the xbox. The xbox360 is a jail compared to the xbox1, of course they didn't like the piracy part, but they didn't like the homebrew and the running of thirdparty operating systems on the xbox. I can boot up Linux if I want to, and XBMC is a godsend to the extemely limited OS that comes with the xbox. Some people even mod their xbox memory capacities, or add USB ports. :p I just add a 320GB harddisk instead of the standard 20GB one. MS rips people of with slightly modified 5400rpm HDD's, and ask a pretty high price for the hardware. Bummer that the potential of console are severly hamperd by both commercialism and piracy. :(

Well, the game is pretty heavy on the CPU, I don't know how it is now I only played the Russian version. Sure, a lot of hardware can handle the hit, but there is still a crowd on the lower end. If it were so easy they had fixed it by now, I guess they still have a lot of streamlining to do with the engine. DCS has a lot more going on in avionic systems compared to Lockon as far as I know it. I you said, I think the old code in the engine is the bottleneck, it's like fitting highend stuff in a lowend machine, it will require a lot of modification. By the way, how's multicore holding up with DCS Black Shark? Last time I played you got a huge performance boost if you played in Vista with a affinity tweak. If I buy the game I want to play it in XP64, I don't want a triple boot for just one game.

So true, and I suspect that users usually will buy the software instead of aquiring it through other means. It's not rare that sims have a very dedicated community. It's the only thing that's holding me off, besides that I love flying with helis more than flying with fixed wing aircraft. I really hope they going to fix it while they release more DCS games. Indeed, not so bad, but still bad if you take low altitude flying into de equation for avoiding radars. I really don't like to 'roleplay' to avoid the trees while they aren't a immediate threat. But it's still not so much a flaw as in heli sims. I am finally going to 'trial' Lockon, if I dig it I will buy 2.0 too. :)

It's a shame that tank games aren't well received, but no suprise there. What strikes me is that most modern milsim games come from Eurasia, America is falling behind in the sim scene. Lockon Aircombat comes from a Russian company just as IL-2.

No, but I doubt I want to hear that. :D Oh man, I am starting to imagine how it would be if ArmA was totally in Dutch, voiceacted by the people who do the dutch voices for modern foreign cartoons.
-
I never seen a good localized version in Dutch, mostly it sounds really stupid. Anno 1503 en Black and White comes to mind, horrible.

"We don't like your kind around here, boy" ;)

shaftoe dead, will this be an issue?
RaXz replied to Ozz13's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
You really don't want to say that, especially in DoW. ;) -
Well, it still looks pretty good! I play with a 19 inch at 1280*1024, triple monitor display looks better than I thought. Aren't the edges annoying, or do you just get used to it?
-
I played Pacific Islands a lot on the Amiga in the old days. :D What about Tiger vs. T34? It seems pretty good, I've yet to try it out, it's still pretty new in comparision of other tank games. And it supports 2DOF TrackIR too. SimHQ's review: http://www.simhq.com/_land3/land_102f.html

It would be nice if the parachute part is more indepth. But what annoys me the most is the fact that non-steerable parachutes are ram-air parachutes. Ram-air parachutes are like wings, they just don't sink to well except when you are stalling it. And using it as a escape device or for low altitude mass droppings is just plain suicide. The military uses rounds and mostly with static lines for LALO jumps and ram-airs for HALO and HAHO jumps. Only ram-airs in ArmA, but the icon still shows a round. It's kinda immersion breaking for me, actually, it annoys the hell out of me. :p I don't mind the strange blur in freefall, I can look past that, and the foward falling in neutral body position too. But no rounds? The manual states that it's perfectly safe to use a parachute from 80 meter, no way I would ever do that, it's even dangerous with a round! Sweat is almost breaking out if I see this feet were Russians are jumping from 100m. It seems that BASE jumping is loved by the military in ArmA, at least with all that very low altitude jumping with ram-airs. Ram-airs are less reliable than rounds. Just had to get it off my chest. ;)

That one looks awesome, must be a dream to play with. But I don't want to imagine how much it has cost him, the HOTAS Cougar alone is already pretty pricey.
-
Haha yeah, it think it's a matter of setting priorities. :D I've seen some amazing homemade pits on the net, with CRT monitors.

Is there a way to warp somewhere in ArmA2 SP?
RaXz replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Time acceleration (+) And suffer the consequences, never blow up potential means of transport in case you need it in the future. ;) :D -
I confess, did that too, it's quite irritating when you are watching a enemy through your scope and just as you decide to fire someone's head or butt blocks your view.
-
Pff..my view on the game became even worse after I played the demo, I thought demo's were supposed to promote the game. I played for 10 minutes and couldn't wait to fire up ArmA again.

They really should get a better engine, all those things are holding me off from a otherwise great sim. Trees are horrible in heli sims if it's just eyecandy, you can only popup from behind terrain and buildings. And just as you said, the AI are in desperate need of a upgrade, that's especially true for a heli sim. It sure is a ferrari in the desert. Yeah, damn, I was anticipating that game, it would be the true sequel to Knights of the Sky. A lot of complaints on their forum, and that nasty DRM for a flightsim that reduced modability was a big mistake. Sims and mods are synonymous to each other. And people say that PC gaming is dead. :D

Yes, I am aware of Project Natal, but I doubt it will be the end all be all, I am rather sceptic of it myself but we'll see. Headtracking will be another matter, it took me a while to get used to the fact that I had to move my head in game, now it's second nature. The problem lies that people's head explode when games offer to many options. I suspect that Natal will be used more for the rest of the body than the head. But still it might be good that some specialized games offer the option, games that aren't aimed at the exploding head crowd. Oh, the days on the console were games did offer a lot of game options. Today even a invert controls is slowly being phased out. I am pretty curious too what's coming out of it, if it goes further than dancing and jumping around and turning a imaginary steering wheel.
