  1. Different flavours, wish that the same could be said about ArmA. Comparing it to OFP:CWC just doesn't cut it. But I've to admit, if I am gonna flightsim soon, I'll be firing up Over Flanders Fields Phase 3. That's were the real dog fights are, not pushing a lot of buttons, close combat with cubes with wings. It can get pretty intense when you are in a lowlevel dogfight and stalling at 200 feet above the frontlines.

Hell, I own both Falcon 4.0 and Ace Combat 7, I can enjoy both. It just depends on my mood, if I want some fast action I go with Ace Combat flying planes with hundreds missiles. But I mostly in the take my time mood, if I want some action I go for the console gaming. All my friends can't understand what fun it is to play a simulation, they just want instant action. I am renowned for my taste of games that you have to learn before you can play it decently. There is a reason that people say: Patience is a virtue. :D

i lost two good men :(

I know that feeling, it's even worse when your whole squad gets wasted, and you are the only one left panicking while you run away. "Oh no, 3 is down" "Oh no, 2 is down" "Oh no, 6 is down" "Oh no, 4 is down" etc. And then, when I go to sleep I get dreams, I see there faces and they are shouting "help me" and "it's all your fault". I haven't had a good night rest in ages, their faces still haunt me to this day. :(

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Maybe they are still looking into it, to see if it's realistic to make a port. It's still a pretty risky business, especially if you take in account that they are now trying to reach another market with Carrier Command. Don't forget that alot have already tried to bring simulations to the consoles, if it's really a big market, where is it now? Sure they will find a way, but it's another story if it's viable. But don't get me wrong, I would love to see the entrance of more complex games in the console market, the number of keys isn't a issue, if the market is ready for it than MS will allow keyboard and mice on the xbox. Besides, there is a mini keyboard that you can add to a xbox controller. But still, PC is just another flavour, it allows other kind of games than the consoles, even with all that cheap multiplatform crap you see today that limits the functionality on the PC. That's not fanboyism, it's a whole other story compared to the PS3 vs. Xbox360 trend. It's just that PC's tend to be more simulation friendly, hardware and market wise. I just don't like it how everything has to be multiplatform now, I just have to look at R6 Vegas and see the horror. I am more a fanboy of complex games, doesn't matter if it's on PC or console. We'll see, the console version of IL-2 Sturmovik wasn't a failure, and it has a semi-simulation game mode. Maybe the market is growing, time will tell. Where's TrackIR for the consoles? :D Here, someone asks if there are plans for a console DCS Blackshark, it's kinda like this topic. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37130 It reminds me of the old days, when games like F-15 Strike Eagle were released on the consoles. History is starting to repeat itself.

    Dragon Rising has been released

Yes, and it's made worse after BIS complained about using OFP in the title. If CM really had their way they used OFP 2, shouldn't have used the title anyway. It really doesn't matter if they choose to add a 2 to it or not, people tend to think it's the sequel of the previous game, and some even thought OFP:CWC was made by CM. It was all part of their marketing strategy, and look where that got CM now. I can't believe that people are willing to defend that kind of deceit. Even the DR facebook still has OFP 2 in the title, it was part of their hype machine.

OT: Yeah it looks like a killer, a X1900XT killer at that. Mine almost made reallife particles of it's own. :p

    Dragon Rising has been released

Yes, I assumed that for a long time but it would be nice to know the details. I doubt that CM kicked BIS out, maybe DR is the a fragment of the vision CM planned with BIS at it's side. It isn't the first time that this happended, at least BIS didn't pull a Bullfrog, that company died under the pressure of the publisher and the employees went different directions. In BIS instance, it was for the better, especially when I look at all the CM crap with crappy support. That's a certainty, the rest is only speculation.

    Dragon Rising has been released

That sounds pretty plausible, they done great work with the particle effects while the performance hit isn't that high. Real fluid simulation is still far on the horizon, but it will be more of a gimmick and eyecandy for most games, just like ragdoll. I remember pics of the coming Game 2 from BI, were buildings are made out of seperate bricks and other construction elements. That's way better than some ragdolling dead guys. :D And lastly, last days I've been pondering why BI split with CM, does somebody know the details?
  9. A really sad fact. :( :dead:
  10. That doesn't bode well, it depends on where you are in that mission. If you are still in the starting phase it can be big a issue.

    Modern Warfare 2

The forum is a mess, I've seen some crazy things there. IW has it's hands full, they wanted to take it all in their own hands, it seems that the costeffective port to pc backfired. They'll have to do a lot of maintenance to keep the hackers from IWNet. No official feedback on the forum makes it even worse, people can make things up at will. I suspect it will get worse when more and more people get out of the dreamworld after the initial launch. Like drugs, the hype will wear off.
  12. I have Silent Hunter 3 with starforce, but I am pretty hesistant to install it again. They have improved it over time, but their reputation is still really low, especially after that Stardock fiasco. I'll try to be optimistic, it sounds much better that they won't install drivers and such anymore. Sounds like what I had with Securom games, you bought a game and then you're deemed a pirate.

    Modern Warfare 2

Now that you say it, I didn't realise it's already +11 years ago, time sure goes fast. :butbut: Maybe... Activision/IW will use this to promote their hackfree subscription based Nextgen IWNet. A bit like the mafia practice of asking protection money.;) You have to lure in the pc crowd in one way or another, the console crowd won't offer much resistance. Afterall, the core fanbase was asking for it.

Arma II is going on the shelf...

I don't understand all the upgrading to a new MS OS, in my case XP runs fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it, I even run XP64 for the more demanding applications, except ArmA of course. Play pretty good on XP32. I am feeling a bit lonely with my X1900XT when I look at the usual specs on this forum. :D
  15. Falcon might look old, but it's still unbeaten with it's dynamic campaign and complexity, especially Open Falcon. Lockon is a nice inbetween, but the thing that holds me off is the lacking of a intergrated dynamic campaign. I'll still keep my eyes peeled at Lockon 2.0, hopefully they won't add starforce this time.

    Modern Warfare 2

Woah, and IW is still busy counting the money, while IWNet is becoming a filesharing client. They are pretty silent on their forum. Then again, most users bought the game already anyway.

    Dragon Rising has been released

Is there only a steam demo? I just want to see the crap for myself, but I don't want to bother with steam. btw: Nice Cannon Fodder avatar Richey79.:D I would almost say that even Cannon Fodder is better than Dragon Rising, but maybe I am going way to far. ;)

    Modern Warfare 2

PC gaming is alive and well, sure there are console ports but that only backfires and harms the reputation of the companies. Take MW2 for a example, they pissed of a lot of PC gamers, and now they started cracking. Never underestimate the power of the public. Just look at this, and the game just got out! Information war is part of modern warfare, something underestimated by IW/Activision. I am a spectator, watching the carnage from both sides. I suspect that dedicated servers aren't long off, it's much more difficult to exploit pc crowd. Now, pass me the popcorn! BTW: I buy all my games hardcopy, just in case. My only steam game is HL2, and that's a hardcopy too. The fresh smell of a new printed manual justifies it on itself. :D

The plot thickens.. :butbut: Well, at least there is innovative exclusive content for the pc, like mouse and keyboard support. :p

    Modern Warfare 2

18 months and above? I won't be suprised if you can buy some special weapons that are superior to the vanilla weapons. It's force other users to buy that stuff if they want to win, like a dual M249 or the portable nuke launcher of ownage. "Buy now! The awesome rocket shield to counter the nukes with, now with a added bonus of four special ammunition magazines!"

Is ARMA 2 better than OFP?

I will say ArmA2, there is so much added that makes the game even better. Except for the campaigns, the ones in OFP were a lot better, hopefully Operation Arrowhead will pick it up, I am getting tired of leading special teams. I even haven't bought Queen Gambit because of that, and the normal Campaign of ArmA just felt too loose and generic. Keeping my fingers crossed. A new Abandoned Armies for ArmA would be swell too. :D I don't mind it for single missions and a MP game mode, but adding that to the campaign was really immersion breaking. High command on the other hand is pretty cool if you start with a set of units, except for some reinforcements.

    Modern Warfare 2

I think that the console players are starting to understand why the PC gamers were crying. Pretty smart that they release this info after the release, first get people addicted, and than make them empty their wallets even more. Kotick will be very proud with this homage to the fans.

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

I thought as much, but you never know, maybe it's just in the hands of the backwards compatibility team. I ain't a hater, I just have my doubts. It's a big risk, with the last port BI was still with CM if I am not mistaken, I think the risk will be much bigger now if they put resources in making a port, but I don't really know how it works at their current publisher so I can only guess. I think that most ArmA players that can play it on their pc's, would rather have BI concentrate their efforts on that. It's quite logical if you look at it from that perspective, I rather play it on a PC than on a console if I had the choice. And another thing is the rise of all the console ports on the pc, just look at the attention ArmA got out of Dragon Rising, there are still a lot PC gamers that are looking for true PC games. The decline in the PC market can work in favour for companies that concentrate on PC games.

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Start a online petition to make OFP:Elite backwards compatible then, there is much more change of that happening than a console version of ArmA. It's worth a try, it's still a great game.
