    Helicopter tactics?

OK, I have searched, searched, and searched again. I am looking for a tutorial or some useful help on how to use the helicopters and their targeting/weapon systems. The Avon Lady's FAQ lists a link to a tutorial at FlashpointCenter, but it appears that site is dead. Does anyone have the tutorial or know where to get it, or can answer the following: How does the gunner target? Can you target and automatically train fire on enemy helicopters and ground targets? Maybe it is just because I am a psuedo-newb (I came back to the game after a year playing other games), but it seems damn near impossible to kill anything working as a gunner in a helicopter. As pilot, I can target, but the gunner does not see the tatget and cannot select it. In one mission, even if we can avoid/kill the enemy shilkas, the Hinds just rape us with machine gun fire. I thanks anybody for any help they may be able to offer.

    1D10T Question about Port 2234

Oops, added a lot to that response and didn't think it had posted. Here is the more complete response: Yes, I am using the built in XP firewall. I am able to run my server from behind it on 2235 without having to specifically open up the port for it. No hardware router or firewall. Though I imagine I should also mention I am using WinXP ICS. What does DirectPlay do and can I disable it? Would I want to? Also, after doing my previous post yesterday I was able to join a friend's game last night on 2234 but my outbound VON wasn't reaching my teamies, yet they were able to hear each other and I could hear them. However, when he set it up on 2235 it worked fine. Thanks. My DirectPlay (per DxDiag): ---------------------------- DirectPlay Service Providers ---------------------------- Internet TCP/IP Connection For DirectPlay - Registry: OK, File: dpwsockx.dll (5.01.2600.0000) IPX Connection For DirectPlay - Registry: OK, File: dpwsockx.dll (5.01.2600.0000) Modem Connection For DirectPlay - Registry: OK, File: dpmodemx.dll (5.01.2600.0000) Serial Connection For DirectPlay - Registry: OK, File: dpmodemx.dll (5.01.2600.0000) DirectPlay8 Modem Service Provider - Registry: OK, File: dpnmodem.dll (5.01.2600.0000) DirectPlay8 Serial Service Provider - Registry: OK, File: dpnmodem.dll (5.01.2600.0000) DirectPlay8 IPX Service Provider - Registry: OK, File: dpnwsock.dll (5.01.2600.0000) DirectPlay8 TCP/IP Service Provider - Registry: OK, File: dpnwsock.dll (5.01.2600.0000)

    1D10T Question about Port 2234

Hello all, When playing MP, I am unable to start a server using 2234. Consulting AvonLady's FAQ, I changed it to 2235 and that worked. My friends and I merrily went on our way and have enjoyed weeks of play now. Well, the time has come that I want to play though GameSpy or All Seeing Eye. I have initially had some problems so I am wondering if my not being able to use 2234 is the culprit. So my 1D10T questions are these: 1) Can I join other's games and can others join mine if I am using a different port? My experience is that with direct IP MP, no I/they cannot. I assume that that holds true when using player matching programs such as those mentioned above. 2) WHY can't I use 2234? Is there something on my system monopolizing that port? If so, how do I find out what is hogging it and how do I remedy that? System info follows, all drivers are current: Windows XP Home Ed. AMD 1900+ XP Leadtek GeForce 3 Ti500 Audigy Platinum (Does not use DirectX, or so I am told) Two 3Com Etherlink NICs ADSL Connection (Anything else I should provide?) Thank you in advance to all the kind souls who take their time to answer questions for idiots like me.

    Windows XP and Audigy Card

The only additional caveat is to, as Mr. Frag mentioned earlier in the thread, is to be sure that everyone on VON turns their VON off and then back on every time someone else joins. For example, if your buds are already connected, then when you join, they need to hit CAPS LOCK twice (once to turn off, once to turn back on). Otherwise, noone will be able to communicate with the person that just joined. Merry Xmas all.

    Windows XP and Audigy Card

I assume by no VON, you mean noone hears you & you hear noone? Then I don't know. Like I said, personally I leave the Hard Accel down to 2. I have heard raising it back up will work but ya gotta do it each time you restart the game (hear that Mr. Z?). Otherwise, my limited knowledge can only suggest that you make sure you are testing with multiple teamies, all of whom can hear each other. After I solved the prob, I spent 2 more hours "fixing" what I thought was the same problem due to incorrect I/O setup. And that is my 2-cents worth...

    Windows XP and Audigy Card

I will admit that I have very little knowledge or experience when it comes to sound cards. Â I kind of assumed that they just feel they came up with something better, but that is an assumption based on... Â well, nothing... Â I can say, though, that I just love this card. Â CDs played through this thing sound tremendous as do my games. Â I ran it through my "Dark Side of the Moon" test and the sound was better than I get from my Pioneer DVD/CD player home unit (in both cases run through the amp and with some killer headphones attached). Additionally, the Audigy Platinums have every input/output imaginable. Â I just love to connect stuff! Â I can have my computer's speakers and amp plugged in at the same time while still having headphones and a mic plugged into the front panel with volume knobs on each one. Â I wanna buy a midi-keyboard at the after Christmas sales just so I can plug it in to the computer and have some fun. Â And I don't play piano, just always wanted to learn. Â I did find their phone support lacking but I liked their online "message board" style one-on-one service. Â While you can't solve a problem in one sitting that way, the guy who I started with passed the problem on to someone more knowledgeable on the subject which was nice and too rare IMHO. Â The response I got took about 36 hours total of back and forth (about 3 or 4 message from me with 3 or 4 responses from them). Â Even after my initial not-so-friendly message to them after suffering through HOURS of frustrations. I am not trying to imply that they are super fab with customer service, too may other people's experiences contradict that. Â I am just saying that so far they have been adaquete. To summarize: Â I would say this: Â Sound is super killer and I LOVE all the inputs and outputs available on the Audigy Platinum. Â Just make sure you get a big case to fit it all.

    Windows XP and Audigy Card

I just got this response from Creative: _____________ This is a problem with the DirectX drivers and our card. The Sound Blaster Audigy does not allow DirectX to drive our card. You can fix this problem by doing the following: DxDiag->Sound Tab->DirectX Features Box->Hardware Sound Acceleration Level Slider Control Moving the slider to the left . This will lower the hardware Accel. of in DirectX. This will not effect the performance of the card since the card does not allow DirectX to control it. This should fix your problem. __________________

    Windows XP and Audigy Card

Finally, something I can contribute! Â I recently got the a computer with Audigy & XP and there appears to be a bug between the OS and the Audigy. Â As you say, it involves the hardware acceleration and it is showing up on many systems that have this card and XP. Turning your hardware acceleration down to 1 notch above minimum will enable you to run the voice setup. Â I have read that you can then turn the acceleration back to full bore. Â HOWEVER, I have not been able to get the VON to work if I turn it back to full setting so I have left it where it was at 2. This problem is most apparent on Voice over IPs (it causes the user to not hear or be heard in any OFP game) and I first read about it in the Microsoft GameVoice forum (I don't use GV but a friend pointed it out to me). Â The link to that discussion is: Â http://www.gamevoice.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001691.html I have also read about it in the Audigy ng hosted by Creative. Â The news server for that is: Â news.creativelabs.com. Â All of their products are listed there as separate groups. After pounding my head against the wall for days, I finally got VON working and I am back playing with my buds online. It is interesting to note that while I was serving a game all the other players could hear each other but I couldn't hear anyone and nobody could hear me. I look forward to the day when they fix the problem but will have to settle for reduced hardware acceleration till then. If anyone else can add anything to this, please do as I would like to learn more about it as well. Hope I was able to help. For what it is worth, my setup: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 12/19/2001, 19:22:22 Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) (2600.xpclient.010817-1148) System Manufacturer: Magnell System Model: MS-6380 Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â BIOS: AMIINT - 10 Processor: AMD Athlon XP 1900+ Memory: 512MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810) Audigy Platinum w/latest drivers (5.12.01.0134) NVIDIA GeF3 Ti500 (5.13.01.2183) OFP 1.3

    Info on Upgrade 4

As for the gopher problem, use satchels and pull a Carl from Caddyshack! Â Or, send "Hunter" from OILWAR... Â He & that shotgun are otherwise useless... Â (My buddies & I finally beat that map last night! Â We stole the T-72 from the commies. Â But then again, we suck...)

    Help with the Pathfinder mission...

Ugh!  I was having the same problem, so I was thrilled to read this thread. Unfortunately, I threw a nade at the M113, nothing, threw another, nothing.  Well then I had to run back to town to pick up more nades from some poor, dead commies (thank goodness for 4X speed).  Returned with many more nades, threw several, was told to cease fire, then all of the troops poured out of the M113!  Then the medic starting healing them all.  Well, I availed myself of his services when he was done with his squad.  Then all but 2 took off for town. Fine, I thought, they are gonna seize Chapoi on foot.  I went with them and they just ran around.  Grrrr... So i went back to the M113 with nades, finished it off (killing the 2 teamies in the process) STILL NOTHING! Well, when I went back to town, you guessed it, the troops from the M113 killed me!  Guess they took exception to me wrecking their ride! In all 'fairness' a T-72 did survive the birds but was apparently out of ammo cuz I all but jumped up and down on the hood trying to get him to engage me (so the AH1 would target him, I hoped) but he wouldn't fire.  The  AH1 musta been out of ammo too, cuz he let him escape after circling over him for about 20 minutes. SO!  Back at it again, hopefully with better results!
