    Aav7

hmm...what do you put in an AAV7? Does this mean new *MARINES* come out this week?
  2. yes, BRDM-2's would be very cool. But I think that accurate BMP-1, BMP-2 is more practical.

    Super config discussion

I think that this is the best and most practical addon around, ESPECIALLY for SP. However, will it be editable? For people like me who never play MP (56k) it's nice to have all high detail weapons, which is why I use INquisitor's config. The biggest problem with realism in OFP is the fairly stupid AI. They don't take cover, they never use suppressive fire, and they just don't act human. As for the ~4000 rounds of ammo fired, that seems pretty reasonable, but I don't think the cause is inadvertent innacuracy so much deliberate attempts to supress and pin the opposition. IRL, people shoot at stuff they can't hit to scare it.

North korean army v2 by remo released

Marksmanship was not a skill frequently taught to the Mujadin...or the Soviets, for that matter. At this point, 99% of the ppl playing OFP who possess internet connections have the BAS Deltas/Rangers so it's no big deal to give the afghans the BAS AK47HD

    Ofrp release

lol...who doesn't love alcohol/drugs? I agree, putting the French on the Res side is the best decision. This isn't just so you can have BAS vs. France, but because some plausible French enemies (rebels and government forces in whatever African country they've INVADED!!!! this time) might be both.

    Cheeky's sniper pack

Based on the US iraq experience, you'll need a life jacket more than a gun...at least three tanks drove into canals.

US uses FOX too. They were in Desert Storm 2, doesn't look like they were really necessary eh Bush?

    Greece3 completed!

I gotta admit, I was pretty dissapointed with the island. I don't know if it's the ugly CWC textures, but the island is a lagfest in SP! This is with a viewdistance of 700 on a GF4200, P4 2.2ghz with 256mb. The towns are well designed, but man the graphics need work. Haven't seen Der Bastler around on the forums much.

    Best m1911?

What is the best M1911 out there? I want just a plain .45, no laser sights or anything. Also, when the the M9 enter service?

but what about the VAB? The graphic and intro page on your sight are nice, but they take a long time to load. Also, why not put the links to the files on the front page? Yeah I hate Chirac and don't care for France but these are some fun addons and besides everyone likes le clairon! The nades are also very nice.

Hey all, I was just listening to the album Double Nickels on the Dime by the Minutemen. It's excellent SoCal punk c.~1983. Anyway, one of the songs, "Retreat", has a melody VERY similar to one of the 7th songs in OFP. I'm not sure which, but it's just too odd not to notice.

What sort of information are you looking for? OFPEC.org is a good place to start.

    Camo netting

Don't just use the BIS default texture, look up some accurate ones!

    Ier pack released

I don't think that RS uses accurate sounds. Every single sniper rifle has a 10 round mag, and half the weapons sound the same. Nonetheless, it's a good game. The best way to get an M16 sound is to have someone who owns an AR-15 (legal in most states) record it. Just remembered something. The M16A1's in Apocalypse Now sounded just like the M16's before Res. Perhaps firing blanks changes the sound, or M16's really do sound like pop guns?

    So many different camos

Even for modern US forces there appear to be two kinds of woodland camo, one with sort of yellow and one with a more beige/pink color.

    Mi-2 urn v1.0 released!

The best source for Soviet tactics information is books. Since I joined Nomad, I've purchased a few. Used bookshops are often a good bet for stuff on the Cold War, and best of all, they're deeply discounted. A publisher called Osprey has a lot of good stuff.

    Ier pack released

I think the only justification for the higher west armor value is the superior training. US troops in particular are far more capable fighters becuase of the amount of time and money spent on realistic combat training. MILES or similar systems would never exist in the USSR or even in most NATO countries. For Christ's sake, in the mid-80's Soviet MBT crews fired at most 10 live rounds a year in training. This was as the Afghan war raged. As for helos, the same applies. However, OFP doesn't do a good enough job of simulating directional damage. A Hind can survive an RPG or SA-7 only to be brought down by a DsHKM (true story, in Afghanistan a single HMG gunner proceeded to kill two Hinds and a Mi-8 filled with Specznaz sent to kill him. Apparently, the radio conversation between the Soviet pilots and ground controllers was frequently played in the Reagan white house.) Biggest problem about A/C of all times, rotary-wing included, is tactics. AH-64's simply do not attack from 30ft high against hordes of MG armed infantry. But BN880 is dead on about the relative weakness of US attack helicopters; you can't not hit something vital. Last O/T comment: The biggest reason the US lost choppers in combat in Iraq was misuse. The Pentagon has believed its own propaganda about the effectiveness of helos as the primary weapon against MBTs. Really, they are only effective against heavy armor as flanking forces, like light calvary in the days before motor vehicles. SOUNDS MAKE THE BATTELFIELD COMPLETE!

    The "boss" man

lol...OFP needs an Osama and Saddam face...maybe Khameini (NOT Khomeini, the 70's ayatollah) too what with all the "Iran must cease nuclear activity" and such. But Osama would be fun, Gastovski vs. 1000 of them.
  20. Please include a wreck in the final version, as well as a flame script. An intersting idea I had for the wreck is setpos textures like arm patches. Anyway, destroyed vehicles tend to be graffitied by the victors. Perhaps you could allow it to be possible to post graffiti on the wreck as a set pos texture? Maybe "god is great" in arabic, "screw ivan" in english and some epithet in czech (for Res)

    Config.bin mod for inq_weaponpack

This is the best addon ever. Quite seriously, it has made OFP much, much more fun and realistic. It saves lots of time and makes the SP campaign much better. Best of all, any units using BIS weapons "fixed" by this are now much better. From Keg's RPG-7 soldiers to AKM74's BTR, it's all great. I can't play MP, so this doesn't hurt at all. But if you do play MP, I would suggest creating a seperate install for this if you have any interest in SP! Inquisitor, you may not be the most creative or exceptionally talented addonmaker around by you are by far the most practical

    Mi-2 urn v1.0 released!

During the early part of the Soviet-Afghan war, they had total air superiority. DsHKM's and ZSU's aren't much of a threat to Mi-24's. Mi-24's did do a lot of convoy escort duties...until the introduction on the Stinger, at which point they had to fly so high that ground troops called them "cosmonauts" In short, a Hind would have done the actual escorting, but Mi-2's and Mi-8's were the workhorse troop transports. Hinds *very* rarely carried troops in Afghanistan.
  24. I don't think that NATO has any direct counterparts to the BTR series. NATO expected to fight a defensive war, and mechanized advance was not as important. The Stryker 8x8 might be what you're looking for, but as far as I know, there is no OFP addon of it, and it's not even in service with the US Army yet. BTW, the BTR series is incredibly flammable.
  25. If the new addon standard is to kill Abrams with four rockets, will the next Operation Frenchpoint soldiers die if you look at them funny? A BTR-70 would be cool, but how about giving BTR-80 crew AKSU74's? Also, what about the smoking-wreck script and destroyed vehicle under Empty/Objects?
