Hey guys~ GENERAL NOTE: Alright let me start off explaining myself more since we need some more of that. Here is the idea. On one day, a mission maker or just a basic fan of OFP is sitting at his computer playing a mission or making a mission. (this mission maker or fan can be a mission maker, a newbie, an advanced editor, any type it does not matter for this idea.) He sits there and maybe he's playing a mission and he gets this idea. I wonder what it would take to create something that would tell me when I only have 10 bullets in my magazine clip. (Say this is future tense scenario happening, this isn't really happening just trying to explain my idea here). So he hops over to a website, any website that would support this on their forums or their main site, it doesn't matter. He posts or submits the idea to their site for the scripters to try and make because he knows it can't be done with just original mission making with waypoitns and such. So he submits his idea.. (Now if we decide to do this, it would be totally out of the scripters own free will to make these scripting challenges, the only recognition/reward they'de get is their own personal glory and recogniztion from the OFP Community, or if any would create like a prize or something then they'de get that, but otherwise just being known that they created the script.) So the scripter looks at this guys idea and goes, I would like to make this. So he lets the guy know and takes on the challenge and lets him know he'll be done as soon as possible. (this challenge could be anything, which it requires scripting, anywhere from internal scripting to external, internal:meaing initialization fields, condition, on activation fields, game logics, etc....External: meaning anything that's done on the desktop with scripting outside of OFP Game interface) Then the scripter finishes his idea and sends it to any sites or forums he wants who support this concept, also he sends it to the guy he orginally had the idea in the first place. (also I think if people are willing to do this, they should provide a document with help on what to do to us the script inside their own mission)... So then the guy publishes his script or submits it and it can be used by others at anytime they want too then it would be another great script that nobody has made or thought about at all really or maybe they have but they just haven't made it yet. Then the scripter gets the credit for it just to be fair. (moving on) MY PROPOSAL: What I'm offering here is for a scripter who knows what there doing to take on scripting challenges requested or an idea thrown out by anybody who likes OFP they dont have to mission make or anything they can just have a scripting idea and throw it out there on OFP community sites or forums who could support this topic and the scripter would take on his challenge and release it and make it happen. Now Depending on the script requested or idea generated it might take up a lot of the scripters time so if they decide to do they need to know it's probably not something that's going to take like 5mins or 30mins maybe more depending on what the OFP fan came up with. Now the scripter doesn't have to create it if he doesn't want too, but the responsible and loyal thing would be to if he decides to take on this task he should probably finish it and not just make it half way through and then not do it anymore for whatever reason. Now I Know it might be something personal that can't be helped then I guess we would have place for unfinishes script idea or maybe somebody else who scripts would have to start working on it from scratch or pick up where the other guy left off. Now it's probably a good idea, for the scritper to know what he's doing, but if he has experience and is willing to take on the challenge then more power to him. the scripter might need some help depending on the size of the script idea or what he knows it needs to be done to make this script happen. I hope that gives you guys more of an idea on what I mean. I hope people consider this because it would be usefull, there are still hundreds of scripts to be made I'm sure as long as we have a mind and can use our imagination there is. Any questions or thoughts let me know..

Advancing in Scripting
Nightjay0044 replied to Nightjay0044's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hey I will be testing your script test out soon. I will post feedback once finished. GENERAL NOTE: Yes we do need more beginner tutorials on different parts of the game. Yes there are great tutorials out there, but then again there are poeple like me who need more spelled out information and guidence keep that in mind. I mean OFP Editor interface is one of the most userfriendly out there but some aspects are hard to learn. I mean everybody has different learning styles for OFP Editing. People learn in their own way. I mean here's a concept that triggerhappy gave me. Understand what each command means and then put it in your own words,, something along those lines. Because everybody has different point of views how they learn things and how one person learns variables maybe completely different from what another person learns. Yes OFPEC is one of the greatest resources out there compared to the official BIS site. Meaning OFPEC is one of the next on the list. I think it's alright for other OFP fans and users to make their own websites for OFP just like OFPEC has their own. But if they create tutorials, missions, campaigns, scritps etc they should also submit them to OFPEC database. Because then if a lot of users have their own websites you can browse by username sites and also OFPEC. Not saying people are trying to make OFPEC obsolete. Because I hope that is around for awhile..It's like this quote from me. "OFP is like starwars, new generations will come to experience it" In a way that's true. Although I don't want to make this reply too long here because the origanal post I made was about learning scripting..so hmm maybe we should go too OFF topic from that.... Thanks for the replies everyone...Keep them coming.. -
Text To Speech program in Russian
Nightjay0044 replied to major woody's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I know this might not help you much, but try going to an engine search and do some browsing on that topic....Otherwise not sure......Maybe you could try contacting the retalitation campaign team, if anybody knows their website could you post it for him. Because their Russian I believe and they might be able to help you out.. -
Advancing in Scripting
Nightjay0044 replied to Nightjay0044's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Okay, lets see if I can understand this correctly. A Variable is something that can be given a value, such as a tank, waypoint, soldier, trigger etc? Alright, I say if I experiment, we should start with something simple. What can we do with lets put a car and a couple of soldeirs down in the editor. What could we do to create a script using them 3 objects? -
Advancing in Scripting
Nightjay0044 replied to Nightjay0044's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Okay with scripting, I think I might need some more help or a mentor or something. Because scripting is a hard subject for me to understand.. but the thing is I know that I can understand it. Because I know how to write a very basic script with soldiers and I understand local and global variables. Alright, so maybe crashdome, you could or somebody could possible help me describe what a variable is and what it can do. I mean I'm talking like step-by-step info and descriptions. Because I don't think I understand enough to experiment..Maybe someone could give like a variables for dummies lesson on this topic or something.. also crashdome, the topic that you gave a description on kind of went over my head. That would help a lot...Thanks -
Okay I don't know about anyone else but it's hard for me to make missions and stay interested in the whole creating proceess from start to finish. I know there still can be lots of missions to be made. Could anyone post their thoughts on how they go about creating missions from scratch? I mean thinking of what kind of mission you want then going about how your going to create it?
-
lol, okay what if you think of a theme or a story structure such as attack a town. How about thinking of a certain amount of soldiers that would be suitable for this type of mission. I mean your not going to have 150 soldiers in a town on the island of Everon literally are you? So I mean say to your self, okay I'm going to have 25 or 30 soldiers in this town as the enemy. Then you could think of okay what would be an acceptable amount of allied soldiers to go up again this force..You think, well I could almost match the enemy strength and say I'm going to have 15 soldiers and a couple of tanks. But I mean how hard should you make a mission? How easy should you make a mission? Also my lack of interest comes from... -placing the units -where to place them -how many should there be for both sides -should I have reinforcements... Lets talk a little bit about reinforcements. I do think this is a good way to spice up your mission. Because when you attack a town you know there are going to be soldiers in the town waiting to open fire on you. But what you don't always know is will there be any reinforcements. THey could come from the North, South, East or West, by plane, helicopter, vehicle transport etc..Also it falls into counter attacks... What I love doing is feeling the aspects of the mission when I play it. You know you just feel apart of it. Like my hold Port mission that I have that took me forever to make and it's still not exactly great but it works for me. See there are just so many considerations and factors in mission making it's almost endless.. My point in thie board is to discuss all these aspects as far in-depth as we can go so we can help ourselves or others that come along and want the information. Well that's about it for now..

hey thanks everyone, I got some good advice to work with here. Well usually when I make missions, I try to think of a theme or a introduction to the mission. Such as a black op raid on an Anti-aircraft unit or a nato assault on a russsian armoured column. which I got those from the Prima's Official strategy guide if anybody got the Gold edition withou the GOTY edition just gold edition individually. Some hard parts for me is coming up with objectives, how hard am I saposed to make it, I mean what really is realistic because I don't always know what a commander would do. See now a days with mission editing and creating your own missions, it's you have to be more creative..For example.. It may get boring if you have a theme that you play as part of a squad to attack an enemy town and clear the area...I mean you could make a hundred of those but they are all basically alike..You got to think of a lot more then jus that in my opinion. But you know when you make single player missions like the official BIS mission "Clean Sweap" that's a basic attack a town mission but your a black op in that one... Those missions are fun...Becuase it seems like whatever BIS missions are made you seem to feel the realism in their missions and the mission just feels right... Does anybody know how BIS go about making their missions? Okay I've had this thought...Like mentioned above, driving around until you find a spot that fits your mission. well maybe you could think of is that some aspects as this.... What will the players and AI's soldiers line of sight be? Do you want it to have lots of hills or be flat land? Do you want forests or any trees? Maybe you could consider your terrain like that...when your looking for an area of the map to put it on, then when you have your mission in mind and you know your island you can think to yourself okay I know what I want and where I need to drive or fly around. Also sometimes like a few of you said, I do just create missions for the sake of creating them...But I do want to see my self make another successful mission...YOu see if anybody ever played my hold port mission, I was working on that mission for a long......time. It's pretty much the way I want it now. Maybe that's what a mission maker like me should do is only create and work on your mission when you have the passion to do it or else your work is going to be gone. One part that is different now in making missions is that the users/players who play your mission know what to expect from the AI soldiers...WEll yeah that's easy....So say you have a small 3 man patrol going around a building.....The player looks at that and thinks to himself, well this will be easy to kill them. Then again you could mix it up and make them patrol in diagnal lines and not straight lines going around the buildings and towns. Heres a point we could discuss, I like to make my missions feel like real missions, make them unpredictable in most ways but not neccessarily in all ways, be suprised, feel in the heat of the moment, get into the mission not just play it. Try to make the mission as meaningful as possible not just an oh, attack the town mission..those don't excite mission players unless theres some action. Well I hope that give you guys more thoughts on what I'm thinking about....Thanks everyone..

Hey looks like a good try for a mission, I looked but might not download only due to a 56k modem and depending on the size of the mission it might lag on my PC....We'll see maybe i might sometime..

Alright, this way of AI long range sniping or short range sniping works pretty well. Also the whole thing was created by the user BlueLikeU....I've just used his technique.....Below is the link to my forums that describes how to do it... How do I make a sniper shoot an enemy that walks in his sights? STEP 1: ADD SNIPER Name: Sniper1 STEP 2: ADD TRIGGER 1 AXIS A: ?? AXIS B: ?? (how ever big you want) ACTIVATION: West,East,Resistance, Civilian??/Repeatedley CONDITION: this ON ACTIVATION: "sniper1 reveal _x" foreach thislist STEP 3: ADD TRIGGER 2 (make sure this trigger is inside the radius of Trigger1 you created) AXIS A: 0 AXIS B: 0 (everything else in this trigger can be left default, besides the below properties) CONDITION: Sniper1 knowsabout player > 0.8 This will make the sniper shoot at any enemy inside the trigger radius or zone that you created....As long as the sniper can shoot that far, whatever his sight distance is.. ------------------ I've also tested this out..the sniper can shoot pretty dang far and still hit his target and it could make it difficult for the player to find the sniper if you have him well hidden. Any comments please respond..

Long Range Sniping Technique

This techniques works best only for the sniper rifles. I haven't really tested it on any other type of guns... But it works great for snipers... -
Long Range Sniping Technique
Nightjay0044 replied to Nightjay0044's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Has anybody tried this technique yet? -
Yes, well I've also experienced that issue. If you'de like try going back to the original version of the game which is versions 1.30 1.46 and 1.76.....It's just not the official game patches that's why this happens with OFP...So if you experience any problems with official BIS missions that is your problem...
-
Hi is this the correct place to post this? Well, I would like to know if it is possible to uninstall all your current OFP versions you have only until 1.76 (resistance), atleast I think it's 1.76, on OFP without uninstalling the whole entire game and then re-installing it? Because there's all sorts of bugs in the orginal campaigns that make the campaigns have flaws and the missions not very satifactory...So if anyone could guide me that would solve that..Thanks.. Also I've tried just deleting the ICONs in the OFP directory and that doesn't work.

Hi, heres it what I have. A sniper with the name of "sniper1". How can I create an ammo box for him to rearm himself whenever he needs to? Thanks..

Long Range Sniping Technique
Nightjay0044 replied to Nightjay0044's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Also I've tested this out.. DAYTIME: If the AI sniper can see the enemy he can shoot him up to a range from 500 to 600 meters. NIGHTIME: This is about 400 to 500 meters...Not as good as day...I I also tested this on the desert island. So on other islands with hills it might be harder for the AI to shoot at the enemy if he's in his line of sight. -
Alright, yeah I found the script it's called Rearmeast.sqs Okay I have one east sniper named: sniper1..how do I get him to rearm to the ammo box with the script?
-
Okay maybe somehow you need to use the Rearm action. but how do you make it so that the enemy AI sniper detects that he is out of ammo and then rearm at a specific ammo crate?
-
yes, i can create an ammo box, but will the AI sniper automaticlly rearm at the ammo box when he's out of ammo without putting any certain code in to get to recognize it to rearm?

Beginning Breifing/image editing
Nightjay0044 replied to Nightjay0044's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Metal heart, I did as you sad. Here's what I did. >went to OFP editor, placed on soldier. Previed the mission, took a photo of the soldier in-game with the (printscreen button). >minimized OFP went to paint pasted the photo in paint. Changed the attributes to one of your previous widths and hights in pixels. I don't know if the picture has to be centered or what but it changes the size but it totally cuts out the soldier and only puts the changed size of the image in the upper left hand corner of the screen so the whole rest of the soldier is cut out and it's just a blue sky. I don't know if I did anything wrong. Also I would like to make and do the best I can of making images like BIS does in their official Single player missions. how they have such nice borders and clear pictures no matter what time of day. So I don't know if you can make those nice of images with paint or make borders with paint. But that's what I would like to start doing. Thanks. -
Alright, I'm in the need of a step by step process of how to create your own images from scratch, and starting off with taking pictures from inside the game while playing then creating boarders for the pictures then eventually placing them in the overview or breifings of the mission. Here's what I have for my PC to edit and create pictures. The only tools that I have are.... -Paint -Word Pad That's it.I don't really have anything to edit with that's good. Being as though I probably need to get a new tool, can someone direct me on where to get a new one that is reliable, I just need something that I can take photos then edit the size and everything and change to JPG or BMP format to put inside the briefings or overviews. Any guidence or help would be appreciated, thanks.

Alright, here is what you do. At the groups destination where you want them to get out, meaning everybody. Give the vehicle a waypoint order "Transport Unload". (It's in there, don't use the unload and load if you want the cargo and crew to get out.) Also once you have place the waypoint order of "transport unload" place another waypoint order infront of that one of "Get Out" Here is what this will do. The vehicle with the troops inside it will transport to the desired location and drop off the troops first in cargo, then it will also make the crew of the vehicle get out also. But if you don't want the crew to get out just leave the first waypoint order of "transport unload". Just as excess said..hope this helps you if I understand what you meant correctly.

Armed Assault - should the name be changed?
Nightjay0044 replied to theavonlady's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
For me personally I don't mind OFPAA's name. I mean yes in a way it clashes with America's Army. But it does have the name OFP infront of it. I'm patiently waiting for their release. I wish they would give us more detail on the release and it's aspects but that's not for the public to know until the last possible minute of what I'm aware of.
