Low Moving Cloud Layer
norsu replied to ColonelSandersLite's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Perhaps replace the cloud textures with empty alpha channel textures . In OFP they were simple flat faces with one texture . -
Thanks for the new patch sickboy .

Patch 1.02 Released for Czech and German ArmA
norsu replied to GermanPower's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Very low shaders disables normal maps, so you will most likely see improvement when there are lots of complex textures like foliage around . Though without normal maps ArmA looks a lot like OFP. -

Patch 1.02 Released for Czech and German ArmA

For me cities seem to run better now, but certain types of foliage still put my comp on its knees (those big bushes mainly). -

Do you have shaders on very low? My water look as good as in 1.01 and different weathers makes the effect stronger/weaker. -
Patch 1.02 Released for Czech and German ArmA

Multiplayer sound bug seems to be still intact after 1.02 . It's sometimes even worse now . -
There's a file named OpenAL_1990.exe in 1.02 zip .
-
It's much better now after the 1.02 patch . My only gripe is the KA50 flight model, it still feels like a Mi24 Hind from OFP even though it should be one of the most agile choppers in the world.
-
I agree with the first part but I think that game mode texts should stay. It's much easier for a coop player like me to find out which server runs coop and which something else . Also the play mode text should have a button that puts all modes in alphabetical order, just like the server name button .

I would like to see more polished optics for vehicles. It's somewhat hard to aim with them when there are scratches and dust all over the screen.

You can only unlock shaders in 6800 series AGP cards . PCIE cards can't be unlocked without some serious magic.
-
Well the first patch already removed one performance hogger . Maybe (most likely) there are others too.
-
I will . And according to numerous tests that card should OC very well plus it has rather decent cooler and power usage .

I ordered MSI Geforce 7900 GTO 512Mb from Germany. When you overclock it, it should be on par with 7900 GTX but also around 100 euros cheaper (at least here).

Spotting works, but you are doing it wrong. Hold down the right mouse button and move cursor on enemies . Quick clicks just activate the action menu if you use default keys.
-
Seagulls can also fly under water . A nice "bug" actually .
-
You can't do much in Oxygen. You can limit texcount with texmerge function but their uv mapping is still bad . Hopefully the new Oxygen has a better solution .
-
I wouldn't count on that. IMO there's something wrong with the foliage because even a single bush in the middle of nowhere can make your PC (low or high end) crawl when you are close to it.
-
Not necessarily. Those OFP addons and mods that required more muscle had usually hires textures and models. ArmA has already hires textures and models so I doubt community addons and mods will run any worse than ArmA itself at the moment .
-
Apparently there's a model and textures for SPG-9 recoilles in weapons.pbo. Here's a screenshot: I haven't tried to get it work properly. I just replaced D-30 model with it too see if it works at all. You can shoot with it but there is no proxy for gunner and also you can't aim with it :P. Perhaps we'll see this fully working in future patches .
-
Most likely not if you want to have fluid ArmA experience. I'd say you will get around 10-40fps max.
-
Yep, those bushes are really fps killers . I tried to edit to give them smaller textures but that didn't help much (1-2fps). Perhaps there is something wrong with their models? If they are simply too high poly, BIS could make an option for next patch to install lower quality bushes. Oblivion had similar problems with its grass. Someone released a grass model with lower polycount and it helped greatly while still keeping quality high.
