Oh man... Start here http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=Arma2_files The first thing you have to do is to download a Launcher. It organizes your addons and specific gaming profiles. You can have a clean game for playing on the internet and as many tweaked out games for you own pleasure with different mods loaded. It makes using addons so easy. You don't need to modify shortcuts and shit. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6109 Then go and get all Arma 2 maps. You can get Maps from Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault, that play really good with graphics maxed out like a mofo! (ex: Sahrani 10km viewdistance, 50 fps) You need all the maps you can get. Get them all. Maps are good! Namalsk kicks ass and Panthera is very diverse and interesting. http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=a2_addon_island Then download a good sound mod. Sound of War is fine. Sometimes I prefer Vopsound. Get both. When you get bored with one, pick the other. http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=a2_addon_sound I always use the following tweaks too: JTD Fire and Smoke (and birds) http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=86237 Minimal Crosshair http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=80358 Dynamic Weather http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=87521 Also a couple of mods that reduce grass clutter and improve ground texture but you don't need those. And of course download as many weapon addons as you can. Then go in there and explore the studio space.

Ηey you are me! I do the same. Trying to fly under the train bridge in Namalsk with a C130 upside down, riding bikes down mountains, hunting civilians or animals, burning forests... It's like lucid dreaming really... Buggy lucid dreaming.

i'll just say it yo.. 1. Interrupt-able animations. All of them. As soon as you start doing something BAM you change your mind and do something else. Like going prone as soon as you press 'stand up'. Getting your rpg out while reloading. Everything should be interrupt able and more fluid. Smoother. 2. More flexibility. Women should be able to carry arms and drive vehicles. Who attacks who, should be completely customizable. Maybe I want a mission where civs, independent, bluefor and opfor all fight each other. A game like this souldn't have hard coded behavior in that department. 3. More checkboxes and drop down lists in unit creation, less init scripts please. 4. Less clipping in geometry and more fluid LOD loading. And fix that damn view distance to be the same for terrain, units, effects and everything else. I wouldn't mind if I could see a maximum of 2km as long as everything in the map was visible. You know what? Fuck it. I don't need an Arma 3. Arma 2 has everything I could ask for right now. I am not an ingrate. 5. Grass in the distance fix.

Yes I Searched. Linking and Unlinking
Master gamawa replied to khugan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Simple answer: When you want to group or ungroup use the "group" button. Everything you do with the mouse after that, concerns grouping. If you double click you get the group pop up, if you click and drag you group or ungroup units etc When you want to move a unit around you press the "unit" button. Everything you do with the mouse concerns moving around and properties of individual units. -
use your zoom in-zoom out keys and aim higher. Arma 2 pseudosimulates the scope callibration by making you aim higher than the centre of the crosshair. It's kinda dumb but it gets easier with time. Just pop in the editor and train with a sniper rifle before playing missions. Get your player somewhere high and let some civilian targets loose. try to see where the impact of the bullet appears and adjust your next shot based on that. Then check the distance to the target and try to remember how it all works.

Only 144 units per side?
Master gamawa replied to JamesGTAIV's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
group them! -
Realistic or not it would be awesome to see an enemy squad searching a foggy forest with mounted flashlights pointing here and there in the darkeness and shit. Come on admit it. Imagine when you see al them beams pointing at you. Time to run and hide!

A Columbia mod maybe?
Master gamawa replied to Pundaria's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
what is a columbia mod? -
you don't know the half of it man... Seriously the more you play the more you will discover. You are gonna have to improvise to get through this game. If fact the campaign will force you to think on your feet with more than a few ways.

Explore the possibilities dude. That's what Arma is about. Remember: If you kill the drivers you can take the wheel and chase those bastards around, block their escape rout or just drive the trucks in the water to destroy them.

Monsters, zombies and so on
Master gamawa replied to Ludovico Technique's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
He was talking about this image http://xs1244.xs.to/xs1244/09430/zombie-girl136.jpg ... which apparently doesn't exist anymore but it featured a woman dressed in skanky outfit! -
Third person is for women and children. Yeah I don't care if you can see "better" in third person. I am hardcore like that! :p

I would probably tell you something like "dude we played Operation Flashpoint and we KNOW the ways of warfare" but the truth is that I died a lot. I died and I died until I found a way. I took out the first bmp with the satchel and another vehicle with the rpg. Then I threw a few grenades down the hill and killed a few guys and used the destroyed vehicles as cover to kill the rest. I had to chase a truck to the next village too. But that's the thing... We cannot tell you how we did it. Even if we do, you may try it and it won't work. Which is a realization that becomes apparent if you know have played Operation Flashpoint.

Fiasco? Is the game out already??? Damn!!!

Come on you are just unlucky. This has happened to me too but you don't see me throw a fit about it. Armed Assault sucked for me. It was so buggy and unstable when I bought it that I had to leave it on the shelf for six months. Then I got a new pc and realized that it was the best game ever. No matter how much you complain (and provided that you couldn't find help in this forum) the game will not start magically working for you. As I said, you were just unlucky. Deal with it. BE A MAN!

My friend, we have made our peace with this ancient beast called Arma 2. We have learned to accept it for what it is and... may I say it... love it, unconditionally... as if it were our own collective special problem child. Now it's your turn. Will you accept the responsibility of fathering this amazing retard or are you gonna whine and make the world a worse place? it's up to you. Seriously.

Another gripe I have with grass rendering is that the textures that have grass, don't look like they have grass from a distance. And of course I hear you say D'Oh... but listen: I know the far away textures don't have grass on but they SHOULD look like they have grass on. Painted on maybe, I don't care really. What happens right now is you see the slope of a hill and it looks like a nice light green uniform surface good enough to sleep on. When you get close, all sorts of shit appears that isn't bright green and smooth. It's bushy, leafy and diverse! What I am saying is that far away textures should look as if they had the bushes and weeds that WILL appear when you get close. You will notice that when you set a gillie suit dude between the grass and look from a distance. He is the only grassy looking thing lying oblivious on a bright green carpet of moss and fairy farts! 'S'all I am saying you know?

I'll tell you what. I 've been playing games for a long time. I started with a Spectrum back in the 80s, moved on to an Amstrad 464, then to the Amiga etc... I have played a lot of games. A LOT and I have mostly good memories of them. Well not memories. Impressions. Feelings. Arma is one of the few games that give me full memories with storylines because they are all happening without planning. I remember where I was, how I ended up there, the time of the day and the particular circumstances that led to the events. You'll never hear me say "I remember that great instance in Call of Duty where I blah blah". COD is about shooting enemy dudes. It happens all the time. You have a good time and then you forget everything about it. Arma is full of special and unique instances. A few nights ago I run out of ammo while on a jet plane and I had to destroy the remaining vehicles of a damn convoy before it reached the enemy camp. There were two vehicles going up the road so I turned my nose down and send the plane as a bomb to the one that was further away. When I was pretty positive that my plane was in the right angle I parachuted out and landed in front of the other vehicle like a vengeful angel that came from heaven to kick ass. I stood in the middle of the road and slowly I aimed at the driver... For some reason he just froze there with his hands on the wheel, KNOWING that this wasn't his lucky day. You cannot plan that. You can't even script it! It's fukken great!!!!

illegal copies may degrade ? WTF

Fade is like cancer. You just mind your own business and suddenly WHACK!!! you got some serious FADE in your Arma and there is nothing you can do about it. Is there a way to deactivate it once it gets going, I wonder? -
If Arma and OPF didn't exist I would probably still be playing Cod and Medal of Honor games. I would consider Dragon Rising to be an ambitious but average game that could do better and that the idea was tempting but the game lacks adrenaline, cinematic action and that very important feeling of accomplishment and pure gaming joy that Cod4 gave me! Fortunately Arma2 exists and I can't help but compare the two, based on their claims. Arma2 is sandbox and you can do all the crap that says on the box and it's more realistic and complete as a whole. As I see it, Arma promised a lot and managed to fulfill almost ALL of those promises to a certain extend. Some very successfully... some half-arsed, but it did! Dragon Rising promised to be even better that Arma and put itself in the same gaming category... and came up short. No wonder most people compare it to the Battlefield games. It just doesn't deliver. I am sure with a bit of modding it will become a decent game, but not Arma decent. And to be honest a modded Arma is as close to perfection as you can have right now. Amazing maps, amazing sound mods, a few tweaks here and there and you got exactly the game you want.

I have DR since last week and I am sad to say that I have played with it, a total of twenty minutes. I just can't do it. I see the shortcut on my desktop and I hover over it thinking "Give me a reason to play this game. What happens in this game that doesn't happen in Arma 2, ten times better and more enjoyable in every aspect?" Frames per second is the only answer I can come up with. Better FPS. Tempting but.. no thanks.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
Master gamawa replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'd say 6 months if you can afford it.. but yeah... a year of waiting gets better results. It's just the BIS games are ahead of our time. GAMES OF THE FUTURE! -
Ι am not a realism nazi but I think it's enough of a clue when you hear "Oh my LEG!"... When it's an arm that's shot the weapon sways so I am fine with it. I am happy with the rate of fire (since you can't really check your weapon) and minimal crosshair indicators on screen. The rest can be gathered from the game.

Well you kind of moan when you try to walk with a leg injury and then you fall... But yeah I guess that's a given for Operation Flashpoint players... Maybe a blurred view effect and a loud moan would make it clearer.

kiska / skira ,does anyone want to see this island in A2 ? (the OFPDR island)
Master gamawa replied to 9thAircav's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well I think it would be very interesting if you "copied" the CM campaign missions for Skira as well. Imagine if a few Arma2 modders managed to recreate Dragon Rising in Arma2 and made it better than the original. Provided that Dragon Rising doesn't handle very complicated stuff (like large wars and dynamic scripting) it would be easy enough. Then you should send this to CM to show them what their game should be like. In fact CM shouldn't even use Operation Flashpoint in their title. The true sequel of Operation Flashpoint is Armed Assault and Arma 2. Oh look ! Incoming car analogy ! Dragon Rising is a lower tier SUV. It looks ok, it handles ok and impresses the common player. Good fun for the whole family. Very safe too. Loads of airbags, airconditioning, cd player and all that crap. Arma2 is a military Humvee. It's huge, it can fit a lot of people in, it guzzles gas like a mofo, it is a bit uncomfortable at first but it's the right vehicle for war.
