Games crashes when activating HW Acceleration
Marines replied to S.O.S's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The reason I asked was because a few people have attempted to run ArmA in Win2000. Now, I assuming the game is still playable without modifying the config file, correct? -

That is odd, mate. Whats your OS? -

What are your exact system specs? -

This is definitely one of the better threads I've read in awhile. I think I'll rip my X2 from it's motherboard and toss it into the trash. -

LOL! I've been hangin' back, waiting for someone to pick up on that. -
i'm bored now of gathering info, but there u go, its all about shaders That is worthy of an extended discussion.

You posted a screenshot, and asked if this was going to be a new addition etc., and you posted it in the TROUBLESHOOTING forum. Yeah... It could be the wrong section.
-
Sure. It looks as if the error is related to DXT texture compression and how it is implemented in your Gfx card. It's as simple as enabling the DXT option on your Gfx cards control panel. It is odd though, as the option was already enabled for me, yet it required me to disable it, restart, and enable the option again.

Now ArmA refuses to even launch without errors. I've uninstalled the game (German Version), deleted the folder, reinstalled, applied the 1.02 patch and still nothing eliminates the problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

Using Fraps to gauge how it was working, I saw no preformance improvement what so ever. However, I did notice it took well over two minutes to load the main menu, when it normally takes ten seconds.
-
Fixed the issue with a little tweaking. @ Shadow Could you delete this thread, please. Thank you

Roger that. AMD 64 X2 5000+ 3G RAM Radeon 1900XT I believe it's a GPU error related to OGL. In fact, I'm fairly certain that's what the issue is. I might try and reinstall my drivers.

Same problem as you. There are those who are running it on high with good to excellent frame rates.
-
Your guess is as good as mine. I'm running an AMD 64 X2 5000+, 3Gs RAM, and Radeon 1900XT with 256, and I'm still having preformance issues. ArmA seems too love certain systems and hate others. I'd suggest asking those who are running it very well, with most of the options on high, and request their system specs to better guage what you need.

Interesting article. Article -
Fox is correct, it's your GPU. It all depends upon what you are willing to spend I spose. A 1900 series will solve all of your problems and then some, maybe. There are quite a few people here that have high-end systems like myself, and still experience problems. For you, if your cash strapped, the best option would be the Radeon 1600 series.

I have a bit of a fix for those of you that are having trouble running the game without massive frame rate drops. I'm sure some of you have already found it, however, there are bound to be those that haven't, and I can't seem to find a post regarding it. Make a backup. Open My Documents Open your ArmA folder Open the ArmA config file Change the Resolution_Bpp=##; from 32 to 16 Or experiment with it yourself. While it does make the overall screen a bit darker, it seems to improve the FPS. Would've been nice had BIS included the option to change the render PPx from 32 to 16 etc...

That's another solution. I'm not sure that it's the reason of why the game runs slow near foliage... It seems to be a problem with the engine. However, I could be wrong.

Troubleshooting The point of this thread was to help those who are having problems running the game. Furthermore, the poll was an attempt to narrow down the version, and the exact problem the individual in question is experiencing. I was simply attempting to provide a coalescent thread to compile all the problems people are having into one. Such a post would negate having the hundred plus duplicate threads found on the Troubleshooting sub-forum. Rant over... forthcoming

Obviously the patch affects systems differently. Some have noticeable improvements, others do not. I don't even know where to begin. I may have to break the patch down and look at the code itself. If I can....
-
Let's try and narrow these issues down if at all possible.

@ Evers Damned nice work on you PMC addon, mate. I would like to stress that you remove the Blackwater emblem from said unit. You're looking at a lawsuit if you don't.

Problem patching german download version
Marines replied to Renegade87's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Jesus H Christ. Even the patch files have problems being applied! This is strange indeed. -
English Patchers Beware Do not download the bloody thing! Purchase the CD/DVD German version if possible. The downloadable version contains a certain copy protection system. This copy protection scheme utilizes a limited number of activation times. Thus, if you choose the download option and apply the English patch to whatever version you have, you're going to be shit out of luck when the next patch arrives. You're going to have to reinstall the game every time you apply a patch. Your number of activations will diminish rather quickly, and you will be forced to contact the customer support of whatever source you chose in order to obtain a new serial number. It's a pain in the ass.

Problem patching german download version
Marines replied to Renegade87's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hmm, patches normally overwrite any previous files. I do see how the English patch could conflict with said alteration. Any altered files should normally just be replaced with new ones included with the patch. I'll wait and see if your solution fixes the problem.
