A brand spankin' new PC will not solve your problems. I purchased a new box just to play the ArmA, as I'm a long time OFP player. It still doesn't run the game as it should. It's not my hardware, it certainly has to be the engine.

There is an issue with the foliage as you have illustrated I have no doubt it will be fixed expeditiously. E Ya know, the majority of my posts are in here, the troubleshooting forum that is. I'm here to help those that are experiencing errors and issues with the game, however, I can't help someone purchase a new GPU. I mean come on. You can't expect to play next-gen games with a card like that. @ Skull You should at least attempt to purchase a budget card. EDIT: At least a X1600, mate.

I'm sorry, mate. But Ethne does have a valid point when it concerns your video card. However, it still doesn't negate the fact that their are some major graphical issues facing the game ATM.

I have the full version. Now, my overall preformance is excellent, however, when near any type of foliage my FPS drops like a bomb, and looks like a damned slideshow. It also doesn't matter what I have the settings at, preformance is still atrocious when encountering any type of vegetation. I'd refer you to this post by dmitri.

You can't keep using the size of the ArmA map as an explanation for bad performance. If you do keep using that as an explanation, then you're acknowledging that the whole game is horribly flawed because it has outdeveloped current technology, which is untrue. The thing about a huge world is that only a small part of it is rendered at a particular time. Distant 3d objects are rendered as 2d sprites that look 3d. This is easily visible when flying, you can see the terrain render as you get closer to it. So a large map is not a big system hog when only a small part is fully rendered at any particular time, especially when you have the view distance on low. Considering all the stories of random performance present in this thread, you can't possibly say the problem is on the user end and just move on to the next point feeling omniscient, because if someone has a 5000+ CPU and a high end video card and can't run the game on low settings, then you clearly have a problem on the developer side. If you can read this and still be comfortable with telling me that my video card is the problem, then you are in blatant denial. Also, I never said my card is top of the line. I said I have a "good computer." Good is just above nice and just below great. Of course the 7800 has been surpassed, but you seem to think the fact that it's not top of the line provides an instant explanation for why the game can't run on low settings without unplayable lag. So basically, you're suggesting the solution is that I have to go buy a computer that costs as much as my car in order to play this at 1024X768... ...I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this is a problem that lies 100% with BIS. That is a fairly accurate explanation and quite relevant.

Well kick ass! Glad I could help... If I did at all. -
I do think the majority of you are simply missing the point. He didn't post a topic in an attempt to make comparisons between BF2 and ArmA, and instead started a thread dedicated to the issues conflicting the game ATM. And I quote... Now, he is speaking about urban environments that ARE far more detailed in BF2. While the simpler city texts of ArmA are far less detailed, yet chug on a rig such as his.

Welcome to the club, mate. AMD 64 X2 5000+ 3G RAM Alternating between a Radeon 1900XT with 256 and a 1300 with 512 ArmA either likes your system or it doesn't. If you search around the boards here, you'll find people with lesser rigs running it just fine. You'll also find people with beefy systems who have no trouble at all. Your guess is as good as mine.

The only problem with that is that the exterior seating skids will still be visable. Here is the difference between the two birds in question. -

@ Peanut & Eddie Whats the possibility of importing one of the civilian MD-500s from OFP? -
His issue is not related to his firewall, and sounds to be a GPU error of some sort. Uninstall you current card set drivers, download and reinstall the latest one available. If that still doesn't work, I'd suggest you work your way back to a previous series of drivers.

Now, have you made any alterations to ArmAs file directory, addons, config changes, Engish patch, etc etc? -

I think the discussion should remain on topic. Any further question directed at me should be via PM. I didn't choose the books title, mate. -

The only difference is I'm the real thing...ass! Not like it's a hard deal to break into to begin with.... Prior Marine Corps artillery. Echo Battery 2nd BN 10th Marines to be exact. Left active duty in Oct. '03, and entered the reserves the same year. Spent the better part of my time in Iraq as a provisional rifleman. Left the reserves in late '05. Signed on with DynCorp as a member of their poppy eradication program in mid '06, and have since become a TL in Iraq as a PSS. -

I think the discussion should stay on par with the addon elements for ArmA. If you would like questions answered, please PM me. Lets leave this element where it needs to be. This is a topic about PMC addons. EDIT: Shameless plug. Many of these aspects can be read in my new book. -

@ Ironsite PM sent as requested. @ Eddie Gear wise? Well, the items I was issued were rather sub-par in my opinion. As with most the guys in this position, I've purchased a lot of my own gear. I refuse to wear a military issue/style Point Blank fragmentation vest. It retains far too much body heat and restricts movement quite a bit. I wear a FAPC vest with a front and rear ballistic plate. My LBV I purchased which is a RACK vest. It's a nice piece of gear simply because it's configurable to whatever the mission requires. My boots are my old Marine Corps issue ones. Did you have any specific questions? FYI Eddie - Blackwater does not use the military "Little Bird" (H-6 and variants). The operate the civilian MD-500. i agree about the point blank vests, as a PMC yourself i suppose you have alot more freedom with what you want to wear which is going to be a bonus in my opinion, the RACK is a suprising choice, then again, im pretty stereotypical when it comes to PMC, i thought you guys all wore Eagle Plate Carriers and wore Oakley shades gear wise, i wouldnt mind knowing what other items you wear, thigh holster?, serpa, safariland?, headwear?, mich?, IBH?, Protech?, and of course, which clothing do you prefer to wear, Under Armour?, 5.11?, Crye?, having someone like yourself to ask these questions is an honour and im behind what you guys do all the way  issue boots are great, i wear a pair of British issue desert boots for hiking and such. as for the little bird, thanks for that, will have to look into making a reskin for that also, which contracting company do you belong to?, if you want you can PM me the answer if you dont want to publically announce it. thanks in advance, Eddie I work for DynCorp. The RACK system is a better choice for me. You can configure the vest any way you want. Besides, it's a hell of a lot better than what I was issued. Which was a desert tan $50 piece of garbage from Airsplat! Yeah...I'm serious. The hip holster is a good question. It's black, has two Fastex buckles, hurts my waist, and is constantly pulling my pants down. Yes, it was issued and it's crap. I should probably pick one up while I'm home now that I think about it. I would like to make a suggestion to everyone that is making these PMC addons. Please oh please don't use Blackwater as an example. They are widely regarded as a joke, not to mention a bunch of cowboys. -

Because I took the pics at pretty random places. They just happened to be white. I had a couple ideas last night and try to incorporate them. Although the last time I had a nice idea it turned up rather ugly ingame. I tried to do a SORD Hardface jacket but it looked like #### ingame Is it possible to incorporate the Especas LBV without the flak jacket? -

Excellent work! It does look better than the PMC WIPs posted by others. EDIT: I was incorrect. The Especas OPFOR unit has a low-rigged green LBV by default. That might be a better choice given the limitations affecting ArmA at present. -

Nice! Looks more accurate than the others. Unfortunately, we don't wear unconfigurable flak jackets like those. I understand that's the best you can do give the lack of tools, however, I thought the Sahrani forces had a unit that included just a LBV? -

I asked because I was unsure if it came from the web, or from his personal collection, possibly a friend of his. If it came from the web then that's certainly okay. However, if it came from his personal collection and is a friend of his, then the faces need to be blocked out. My current job is that of a PMC, and insurgent CI is excellent at perusing the internet for details concerning many facets of operations here in Iraq. But this has already been resolved via PM. -

The real thing? They pretty much look like the real thing imo. Obviously there is no official uniform so how can PMCs from different organizations look like the real thing. I think its great there will be a variety which makes them the real thing. The stereotypical PMC has some body armor and some tattoos and some fancy sunglasses. No we don't. -

I don't know what to tell you, other than ArmA seems hit and miss with every system. I would suggest you follow the options Sniperwolf stated, and downloading the latest drivers available. At least attempt to uninstall the previous ones first then apply the new ones.
