There seems to be something not right with your PC: "3D_Performance=2000.000000;" On my PC (C2D 6400@3200MHz, 2GB, X1900XT) it says: "3D_Performance=12000.000000;" That said I also experience slight pauses when bringing up the map and going back to the 3D view, but I'd not classify them as a "freeze" myself. Hitting escape brings up the menu pretty much instantly. Don't know what's wrong with your rig, but something seems to be, no? "hardly that good looking" - you're joking, right? It may not have flashy graphics like any other run of the mill shooter, sparkly and shining everywhere, but I don't think that was the goal at all. ArmA strives for a realistic look instead and boy, does it ever succeed. Now, my PC doesn't have the horsepower to run it at max details and still have playable framerates, but sooner or later that day and hardware will come and you bet that I'll be there. Yeah, his 3D Preformance seemed way off in terms of what it should be. Mine - 3D_Performance=8772.000000; That's just odd...

Larry is correct. That might fix your issue.

Disabling Post Processing completely?
Marines replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
To get rid of aliasing On low it doesn't have much performance impact. The main problem with his settings is the high resolution. Edit: By the way, don't force AA in your video card drivers. Rather enable it in-game for better performance. AA off ;} Texture no higher than normal Try shaders and Object at low Terrain low/very low Should speed it up. Try HDR 16 in the cfg. Suma already stated months ago, that altering the HDR value in the config file will not have any impact upon the game. -
The 6800 GT was a fairly decent card... in 2004. Technology changes and advances everyday, and that card barely has enough punch for todays games. I'd suggest a GPU upgrade if at all possible. Altough this is kinda true, you are overreacting a bit. That thing still beats my x1600XT and i never had any problems like this. (Or any problem whatsoever after 1.01 ) Got that right! I had so many issues with my 1900, that I actually had to downgrade to a 7900. Everyone experiences different preformance levels, some have no problems with high-end rigs, others do. The same goes for older PC's. @ Rikus You might want to try my solution I discovered following the German release. Make a backup. Open My Documents/ArmA/ArmA Config file It should look something like this. Alter the "Resolution_Bpp=32;" value from 32 to 16. After saving the changes, right click and save the file as read-only.

I can never fully understand why so many people with a older card or a budget card (ex. X1650), can't quite seem to grasp the fact that they have poor preformance. Look mate, if you "hard up" for playing this game with excellent frame-rates and maxed out visuals, then go out and pick up a 7900 series or a Radeon equivalent. If you're not all that concerned with a low FPS count, then stick with what you've got. FYI - My situation was totally different. I actually had to downgrade from a X1900 XTX, to a 7900 GS OC to actually get a preformance boost. I now run the game with everything maxed out and at around 70 FPS... or atleast I did before 1.05.
-
But ppl with far far lesser pc's are running it fine??? Most likely related to the dev process... You can forget the supposed optimization issues. It now looks as if the game was designed using elderly tools. Thus, all the problems concerning high-end systems like mine. I actually had to downgrade my GPU in order to get it to run properly.

Reminds me of the baby kissing missions. Forget that! Excellent addon, BTW. -
Indeed it is, mate. However, I still can't quite understand how down-grading my card actually improved preformance.
-
Thought I'd resurrect this thread. I recently purchased a 7900 GS OC, which is a massive downgrade from my previous Gfx card, a Radeon X1900 XT. I can now run the game at max settings enabled, with no noticable lag and or foliage issues. It's very odd that I can now run the game maxed out with this mid-range GPU, as opposed to my previous card that made it extremely difficult to run at even normal settings. A simple GPU downgrade fixed all of my previous issues... go figure...

1 - I'm fairly certain they are working on a patch. Most likely, the one to follow the next release. 2 - "Go public" concerning a patch? Has EA ever just jumped out and said, "HEY... THE NEXT UPDATE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!". Or Ubisoft, or Activision, or Relic, or any publisher for that matter? No they haven't. They have better things to do.

Then explain why my AMD x2 4200+ (and im not the only one) has no problems at all. The problems appears to be totally random, which isnt really logical for PCs.. I hear ya, brother! AMD 64 X2 5000+ 3G RAM Radeon 1900XT I will say that is seems that more AMD users experience more problems than others.
-
Talk about a insanely expensive GPU! I don't know what your problem is, lad. Your box is certianly readily capable of running the game very easily. When was the last time you reinstalled your OS?
-
Well, it looks as if next-gen AMD processors may indeed be a contributing factor, as I've read quite a few posts where AMD users experience problems. This could explain why myself, when reinstalling the OS and changing the GPU, had little effect.

Worse perfomance with new ATI drivers.
Marines replied to tommo1968's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Nah, you're correct, mate. Do what I did and roll them back. -
Nevermind. I tweaked and tweaked, and it didn't improve the FPS drop when near foliage. Thanks for the excellent summary though. Cheers!
-
I'll try the ATI specific tool you recommended. However, I've never messed with GPU overclocking.... Edit: Jack, given these settings what would you recommend to ensure a stable GPU? Core 445.50 Memory 270.00

There are obvious preformance issies with the game. Again, there are people with lesser rigs running it with no problems, while those with like specs that are having difficulties. The same goes for those with high-end PC gaming rigs. Could be a unoptmized engine, could be hardware conflicts. Seeing as how these issues are so diverse, as well to include the users PC specs...any guess is as good as mine. AMD 64 X2 5000+ 3G RAM Radeon X1900 [imghttp://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p98/Marines0811/armasettings.jpg[/img] Considering your warning level if I were you I'd read the rules. 48hr PR for you. Shadow.

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. Why do people with newer systems experience problems, while others don't. Why do people with older systems experience no problems, while others do? Why do some with older AGP cards out preform newer optimized PCI editions? If anyone can explain this too me I would greatly appreciate it, because I have no idea why the game should decapitate some systems, and not others of lesser or greater components. A unoptimized engine is the only thing I can think of at the moment. Other PC titles readily adjust to the configuration of the given PC in which the game is installed. This game seems unable to do so. Why is it that I have a "power-box", yet I am given horrid FPS' when looking at foliage? I don't know. Again, it looks as if the engine is highly unoptimized. What it ultimately comes down to is sales sales sales. The min specs on the box are obviously highly intrusive at best, and if a company intends to produce a product, they should offer a honest requirement. If BIS wishes to suffer the monetary gain because of it then so be it.

I'd hate to criticize a otherwise excellent looking addon. But you'll always have people that find something wrong with anything. But the helo skin, mate... It looks a little to American movie style, if ya know what I mean. Otherwise, the units look excellent it's just that the bird seems out of place with the remainder of the project. I don't mean to be a dick.
-
Do a quick search, gents. There are those here with medium systems and highend rigs like myself. A great deal of people are having problems running the game at even normal settings...with systems that exceed the rec'd specs. Again, do a search. Many people are also able to run the game at like settings with lesser components, while others with a newly purchased or custom built PCs, run into massive problems. Again, theses issues seem very complex and random at the moment.
-
BTW, I see you added the Especas LBV to a unit. Thanks for using my suggestion, it looks rather good. I saw the pics you posted in the ArmA Photo thread. Nice work there. But I must ask since no description was posted. What are those units with the red berets? Reskins of the vanilla OPFOR units?
-
Excellent work, mate! May I make a suggestion though? A fair amount of us also wear shorts...khaki that is.

i guess you need a super computer to run this game
Marines replied to mpkev's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
One of these should solve our problems. -
Comparison wise, if you can even make said comparisons... R6: Vegas - Total crap in my opinion. It's certainly not the R6 I remember. All of that aside, I run it with full settings. GRAW - Everything maxed out. Also crap, gameplay aspects only of course. It's no OGR. Splinter Cell: Double Agent - All settings maxed out. F4: Allied Force - Maxed out. Flight Simulator X - Pretty much maxed out. Varying game complexity and render facets do a a great deal to do with it. However, ArmA seems to contain a highly unoptimized engine in of itself. Some rigs run it just fine, while others seem to struggle with it. These issues are so diverse and complex, I really have no idea where these problems start and where they end.
