  1. Welp, I've registered at OFPCC. I like what I've read! I only fear that if the games will be held on thursday and saturday, I won't be able to play as often as I would want... Saturday is significant other day tounge2.gif

Probably not, Saturday and Thursdays are just normal Zeus nights. If anything, we'll try to slightly avoid those times. Although, depending on interest, other server/server hosts can host games on separate timezones or we can just fire up the Zeus server at those times. And just had a look about CoCat - nice little program to make our lives easier, could be used.

  2. You ginger feck. We did the 4.0 template on Saturday and it went well, no problems [from what I hear] although a better casualty script could be implemented. I'll prod you about that.

As for strong player base, it's called 'prodding the clans I prodded previously' and advertising. I will begin providing strong Cheeeeeeeeeesseeeyyyy leadership when everything is ready i.e. mission template 100% which will result in me shoving the website up.

  3. Telepathy is indeed possible. Myself and a few others have got a project exactly like this in the works and it is, if all goes well, a week or two from official opening with strong interest from a good number of squads/clans and secured a powerful server to play it on [Zeus].

[re-reading, it's exactly as you state lol. I'll PM you a link, as well as anyone else who's expressed the same idea]

  4. Yeah, the game seems not to like some people in the graphic department. Fine with me, but friend I was playing with had to turn his settings right down to avoid him being on black between-loading screen for 5 hours. Still love the game, the demo briefings at least are comically translated. Slavic equivalent of Zero Wing. tounge2.gif

  5. I have always had the idea that this is what OFP is all about: combined arms encounters, where everyone has a task which is essential to the success of the operation.

I totally agree. These types of missions are really where OFP shines.

I haven't been working on missions for quite some time now, but I really have a hankerin' to make something along these lines... Some thoughts:

If you are going to have a player 'commander', he is going to need to have access to resources that other players do not, such as calling in airstrikes, or directing some AI forces, or seeing where everybody else is, etc. This encourages him to stay out of combat, instead focusing on coordinating the larger effort; because if he dies, the side as a whole loses BIG.

If players are going to control squads (which they should, and I don't see how that would cause much lag unless you had like 20 players), then I wouldn't suggest they 'respawn' into their old squadmates. This will result in players just leaving their squad out of harm's way, so they always have a large supply of 'extra lives'. If the player only gets 1 life, then he will be inclined to actually use his squad to its fullest.

The only problem would be when someone dies, and then has to wait 20 minutes in order to play again. But as long as the mission is good enough, then it should be worth it, right?

Don't mean to slate you, but most of that is proved wrong on Zeus.

Player commanders naturally have more resources - they command a platoon or more. 'nuff said. [although in Zeus missions, we usually have a mortar team]

We have group respawn in Zeus and everyone runs into combat anyway. Orders are orders, regardless of whether you're going to run out of respawn. To my knowledge, there are no cases of leaving squads behind and having a player war. Squads are always used to full potential.

Perhaps you should come join us one time? :P

  6. "The enemy seem to have tried to rush our defensive positions world war 1 style sir."

Don't dare insult charging lest you wish my bayonet to go a wonderful shade of reddish-brown. :P It's a fantastic tactic that most certainly does not result in 90%+ casualties even with victory.

  7. Ey guys, I would like to join tonight if, if there is a game.I only got a few questions.

    1) I installeded WGLZ and @zmcommon, is that all I need to play?

    2) Where can I download "Varta Heights"?

    3) What is the adress of the server and do I need a PW?

    4) What time does it begin?

I hope you can answer these questions on time!

    Very possible

    1) For tonight, yes, although sometimes we play with fdf.

    2) It's a map on Nogova [if my memory isn't shite]. So it'll auto-d/l on the server if you get it - no need to find it.

    3) Filter "Zeus" on the server filter, the password is on the teamspeak [i'll PM on request if you need it that way] . I recommend that you hop on teamspeak [voice comms program], even if you haven't got a mic as we often give orders etc etc through it. If you haven't got it, get it here:

    http://www.goteamspeak.com/

    The TS address is: zeus.gotf.net

    No need for a port.

    4) It begins [officially, ho ho ho] at 20:00 GMT [8 in the evening] although you might get away with a bit later.

Any other questions just PM me or post in this thread.

  8. Main OFP Folder > Users > YourName > UserInfo.cfg

Replace your class Notepad position values with the following:

    position[]={-0.278569,-0.022338,0.320000};

    positionBack[]={0.008290,-0.150615,0.800000};

If it happens again, make a new user and do the same.

  9. The game isn't bad, actually. It suits my anal/tactical side :P Although it has its interface faults that would make playing it that little bit easier/more fun.

Turn Based combat is actually quite good, wouldn't have downloaded it if it wasn't, actions are decided upon in orders phase and then played out in 10 seconds [variable] with no intervention from player.

Anyone fancy arranging a battlelan game? Would like to see it on MPlayer with other humans.

  10. :S If it isn't, then there's probably something else wrong with the machine - perhaps others can help.

RAM is important, especially with mods, as each .pbo addon file you load requires its equivalent [i think] disk space size in RAM as you're using it.

EDIT: Have you had a bash at setting requirements in flashpoint settings? [separate app in start menu folder]?

  11. RAM's the problem I'm guessing. I tried to load up mods on a 256 machine before, even with nomap, and after a while the game just died on me but normal OFP ran just fine.

If you've never been able to run OFP Mods before, the RAM's the answer [my OFP regularly uses 300 odd mb of RAM non-addon].

If you have, then it's probably *just* possible. Try going to Run > MSConfig > 'Startup' tab > 'Disable All' button then restarting.

That'll kill all your background applications and will free up some RAM for OFP. Short of getting more RAM, it's a decently effective solution.
