It won't make as much. For the same reason the three Combat Mission titles combined were less popular than Company of Heroes. Holywood explosions FTW !!one111eleven!111

And what BIS really imho doesnt get, is just that, people want the simulator... its the same reason people buy Flight Simulator. I know they wouldn't make money on the licensing, but couldnt they restrict mass usage? I dont know but anyways, I hope we can get more simulation, its what makes Flight Simulator fun. I agree but it is highly probable Armed Assault wouldn't sell as well if it was a full-fledged simulator. Operation Flashpoint's more than usual attention to realism actually prevented it from gaining a community the size of the one of the Battlefield series exactly for these reasons. Don't wonder why Bohemia Interactive spent more time on the graphic aspect of the game, their main aim is to reach a larger audience and ultimately gain more revenue. These days you can market shite gameplay computer games as long that they have most advanced graphics available.

VBS2 is a simulator. ArmA is a game.

17 years old right now. First got the Game of the Year edition of Flashpoint in the spring 2004, which would mean I was 13-14 years old. Didn't get seriously into the game until I incidentally met Mad Max from the Tales of War mod team on a Rise of Nations community website. Sent him a PM asking if the British troops in his signature image were from Flashpoint considering the quite resembling graphics. Later became my reference and mentor for all aspects of Flashpoint. Unfortunately we lost contact a while ago. I can't believe so much things have been released since I got Flashpoint. It seems that the preview pictures of the first version of the Lost Brothers addon pack was on OFP.info's news page just a few days ago.

Pepe, you could always upload Vilas' addons if you still have them on a free hosting site such as www.megaupload.com
-
His new packs featured quite a lot of additional content compared to his previous ones found on ofp.info. Unfortunately I can't find a link either, and when I contacted Vilas he told me he didn't have them on his server anymore.

Order an A.I soldier under our command to aim at a designated specific target but ordering them to hold their fire ? Each time I target an enemy soldier it negates my hold fire command. Learning new things in OFP after three years wouldn't surprise me, I found out on how to use the Dragunov's sights just a few hours ago .

Yes, I have finished it an incalculable number of times. I'm just learning to play OFP more thoughtfully after all these years. Finally bothered to use the squad commands beyond "7-2 Danger, 7-7 stay low" so the OPFOR gets cannon fodder as a distraction while I solely get the objectives done. I don't remember a part in which formations were explained in great detail, nor where it was told that you could report enemies without the use of binoculars. But it is highly probable that the latter is caused by control key assignation issue though.

Thanks. If you don't mind, I have a few more questions. 1) When one of the members of your squad becomes "Away", if the player is the commanding officer, is there any way to give your current position just like the A.I (ie: #1: position EH49) similar to the request medic command (ie: #1: Medic! position EH49") instead of a move waypoint command ? 2) Is it possible to spot an OPFOR unit without the use of binoculars for the rest of the members of your squad ? In situations in which I am not the commanding officer, the A.I has issues detecting enemy units that are quite near, and all they actually do as a reaction when I solely engage the enemy, is going prone. 3) Do formations even serve a strategic purpose ? Which should I use in X situation (especially concerning infantry) ?

OFP photography - No images over 100kb - Pictures only, NO comments

I installed Armed Assault after downloading it on Direct2Drive a few days ago. I must say that according to my limited experience with it, it has been so far unfortunately disappointing. - Performance needs serious optimization work. - The A.I is more than mentally deficient. - The new weapon aiming system is downright... I don't have the words. - I found Operation Flashpoint's overall graphics more realistic. The character models actually seemed to me more human. - The character voices are the complete antonym of improvement when compared to the ones included in the first game. - Etc, etc, etc... I'm going to give it a second chance when another patch and the mod tools will be released to the community. Right now I'm hoping Codemasters might pull off something decent with Operation Flashpoint 2.

As far that I am concerned, this seems in the right section. However I advise any moderator to move it if is not. I have recently reinstalled Operation Flashpoint after a few months of computer gaming inactivity and fortunately I still consider it one of the most polished things that has ever sat on my HDD after all those years. This is mostly due to the determination of the modding community that has given it countless additional hours of replay value. Considering that Armed Assault was released two or three months ago in North America, I was wondering if it was worth to purchase OFP's spiritual successor. However I don't know if it is my perception of things, but the community's opinion about it seems polarized. The fact that an official topic was created because of the overwhelming complaints is far from a good thing in my opinion, nor the fact that the latter actually seems more popular considering it has 32 more pages than the one that encompasses positive criticism. Basically, should I get it as soon than possible or wait for a while because it is supposedly rigged bugs like its predecessor originally was ? Are there an equivalent number of mod projects around ?

I've tried at least four times now. I also lose 4-5 squad members because of the artillery bombardment at the beginning. They prove useless againts the Russians even if they survive anyway. Probably the hardest OFP mission I have ever played since I own the game. Even if I destroy the advancing Russian infantry, they get unlimited reinforcements it seems.

As far that I understand the main plot of Operation Flashpoint, if General Aleksei Guba is a renegade Soviet commander, how come Moscow does not send its own troops to arrest him ? According to the Cold War Crisis campaign, he has only about a brigade (3,000-5,000 men) or a regiment (2,000-3,000 men).

Patching his game would be a good start.

Looks more like an arcade shooter Å• la Delta Force: Black Hawk Down than tactical simulator. They most obviously used a Spetsnaz special forces theme to make it look "exotic" amongst bad computer video games. For the lads commenting against World War II games, I'm more against bad WWII themed games than good ones. How many good ones made it out of the hundreds ? 3 ? Same for the Second Indochina War, only one I found great was Vietcong and its expansion pack. Medal of Honor series, Call of Duty series and Battlefield 1942 were pretty good. Hidden & Dangerous 2 was quite decent as well. But it stops there.

Red Hammer is a great campaign. Cold War Crisis and and Resistance were as corny when it came to the storyline department anyway. What I especially liked about RH is the fact that it is not a walk in the park compared to most CWC and RES missions, if we don't consider Search & Destroy of course. (was lucky that the A.I pilot of the AH-1 noticed the Scud when there was 4 seconds left before launch) One of the negative things of Red Hammer is the poor voice acting, which Cold War Crisis and Resistance also somewhat suffered. But apart from that it's a fun and challenging campaign with a lot of innovative missions.

I love blind patriotic-esque comments about video games. I'd rather say that a person that would pay 150$ is more of a complete retard than a hard-core OFP fanboy.

<ul>[*]Command & Conquer banned in Germany, claiming too realistic warfare. A special version using robots instead of humans, however, is legal. [*]The Blitzkrieg add-on "Stalingrad" was banned in Germany for containing realistic Nazi swastika flags on ground and tanks, and realistic medals with swastikas. A localised version without swastikas was released instead. [*]Doom 1 and 2 are banned in Germany. [*]Quake 1, 2 and 3 are banned in Germany. Quake 4 was released in a heavily cut form. [*]Return to Castle Wolfenstein was banned in Germany. A localised version without swastikas and a heavily modified story was released. [*]Spear of Destiny and its sequel Wolf 3D were banned in Germany. Erm, EA does not have a monopoly in North America and they are obviously not afraid of a game that will limit itself to a cult following community. In fact, most gamers and the press don't even care about the release of Armed Assault. In fact Battlefield 2 has sold 2,250,000 copies worldwide, as of July 2006 so it's far from a failure. For the main subject, I'l call it a victory when they will find a North American publisher. I personally never heard of Morphicon before and their portfolio is seriously lacking. Couldn't they just ask Activision, Take-Two, Electronic Arts, CDV, Ubisoft, Codemasters to publish it ? We need big international players in the publishing field.

No, it will feature only a part of the actual island (all the non-mission related areas will be empty of trees and other objects) only to be used for the specific missions that will be included. As far that I remember the Cold War Crisis demo included the following. - T72. - Soldier. (East & West) - Machine gunner. (East & West) - RPG soldier. (East & West) - Officer. (East & West) - Medic. (East & West) - AT soldier. (West) - Pilot. (West) - Crew. (East) - BMP1. - UH60 Blackhawk. - M939 5-Ton truck. - M131 Jeep. Not only was it riddled with bugs because it was technically the 1.0 version of Flashpoint, it also lacked a few features. You couldn't drop a Anti-tank weapon when you had one for example. Oh and some sounds were not the same such as the M16 and AK74. Demo missions were also slightly different; Clean Sweep's 3 blackops were replaced by a West squad and Ambush had a different ending that made me actually get interested in the game </span>One feature that I missed from the full game was the fact that the units had real unit designations. (3rd armoured, 5th infantry)

Wasn't there a total replacement mod by the name of EECP released a year or so ago ?

Canada versus Denmark. Hans Island declares independence from Denmark in April 2006 and thousands are killed in the ensuing conflict between ze evil Danes and the HIA. (Hans Island Alliance) NATO calls for an immediate summit on the situation and Denmark is forced to relocate all armed forces in the foreign Hans Island soil to its own country. However a very patriotic commander by the name of General Güba rallies the troops to his cause and continues the invasion of Hans Island. All countries vote for the liberation of the island and Canada is sent as it has the only forces able to be deployed in less than 24 hours in the area considering the United States is already preoccupied with Iraq and Afghanistan. The actual island: It does really exist...

Hmm I was actually wondering after reading your post, wouldn't it be a good idea to create an official "wish list" thread ?
