    Mi-24 Pack 2

    When I was starting this pack I thought of releasing everything at once, but when I finished Mi-24D/V model I have released just the first part. It seemed like a waste to let it wait till Mi-24P is finished. I know it would be better to place everything in one pack, but I thought this wouldn’t be a problem since link for pack one is in readme file. Any future updates will come as a single pack. I intentionally didn’t bond flare launching scripts with config.cpp file since other original planes and choppers don’t have it, although my Mi-24 versions with ir suppressors alone have similar script and incoming missile CAN (much smaller chance) lost its lock – but flares are not launched. If you want to activate flare launching deflecting script place - this exec "\hrvmi24cpp\scripts\mi24_flare.sqs" into chopper’s INIT field. You can notice that in all my demo missions this script is used – and is working properly. All is in the readme file. I didn’t do anything to Ka-50 model. I have made 80mm rocket launchers for Mi-24, and since Ka-50 actually has that type of launchers (not 57mm) I added that weapon to it. Also, some people mentioned that they would like to have laser guided missiles used on Russian choppers– so I added AT-16 missiles to Ka-50. While I was making those changes I added dust and smoke effects, and replaced ingame picture (replaced mi-24 picture for ka-50). Regarding aim It is offset intentionally. AI most of its ammo spends shooting few meters in front of its target, and 30mm cannon has only 750 rounds. I believe human player can adjust easily – cannon fires just a little higher. I don’t know about new types… I think of using newer model for this pack. It all takes a lot of time. I’m glad all you like my addon, and hope you will make some missions using it!

    Great addon! A lot of different units on all sides… Suggestion: Maybe you have noticed this – when game is saved and then loaded again all selections textured using setObjectTexture command will disappear. Apparently game resets the model and don’t apply the changes after loading. In my addon I have resolve this by placing a loop in the script. Basically you put all random variables at the beginning (so they get remembered) and then you create start for the loop. When all selections get textured you can close the loop – with one or two seconds delay. Hope this helps!

    I was planning to create separate pbo file when Mi-24P is done (pack 2), but if you all want an update for pack 1 the best way should be to release all Mi-24 types in one file. Well, I’ve noticed that soviet Hinds don’t have shark jaws. I added it to soviet Mi-24V just because BIS Mi-24 had it. When I update the pack I will probably remove it from the soviet version. You could still use script too add jaws if you want. About AT-6 As far as I know Sturm missiles are ONLY radio guided missiles, although you can found somewhere that they are laser guided. In the time of cold war a lot of western analysts thought that this missile is laser guided because of its high hit probability and long range. But this is not true. Even AT-9 Ataka (improved version of AT-6) has the same guided system – even though greatly improved. AT-9 is primary made for Mi-28 but it uses Sturm missile launch system and I read that can be used on Mi-24V. This missile has longer range, higher hit probability and can be used against helicopters and low-flying, low-speed fixed wing aircrafts. I would add this weapon to Mi-24V version but I couldn’t found any proof (picture) that it is really used on Mi-24V, I saw it only on Mi-24VM (Mi-35) – which is one of the newest Hind modifications. Ka-50 (or in OFP – V-80) has in fact laser guided AT-16 missiles. I don’t know why they have added AT-6. It also has 40 unguided 80mm missiles, not 57mm. What can I say, I have made a lot of helicopter model kits so I’ve learned some stuff.

    343rdBadger, changes you made with the textures looks very good. You can send me tga files, although I don’t think I will update my first pack so soon - it’s on the internet for less then a week. Actually, I don’t know will I make any more “air addonsâ€. It requires a lot of time to make something all by your self. On the other hand, if BIS continue to prolong OFP2 release I will be forced to make something! And Su25… I’ve only added my bombs to it, I haven’t change the model or scripting – it flies like it always did! When I made bombs for Mi-24s I decided to add those bombs to Su25 too, so people can use this plane for air support kind of missions (area bombing). I usually like airplanes but I don’t like to fly them in OFP. Helicopters are the other story…

    I’m finally fully registered member of the BI forums. It’s really nice to see that you all like my addon. I have spent a lot of time creating it and now I’m glad I haven’t seen Scars Mi-24s. It just looks too good! I would give up!  Because I don’t have much experience in making 3d models, textures or coding I didn’t want to announce my addon prematurely. I wasn’t sure will I be able to make everything I wanted. Regarding Mi-24 armed with fixed two-barrel 30 mm cannon – I’m working on it. Since I had finished Mi-24D and Mi-24V versions I have decided to release pack 1 without Mi-24P. It would be a shame for a completed addon to lies on my hard drive for three or four weeks more.
