Uhm... what? Making simple missions is really easy in OFP. Just throw in a handful of units, maybe a few waypoints for them and a couple of triggers and you're done. I can't imagine how it could be much easier. And if you don't want to learn scripting there's lots of user-made scripts for many purposes that you can use in your missions. Sure, it's not like you can just ask the computer for a certain scenario like in Star Trek, but it's not that difficult either. Correction: Doh, I didn't mean that you can make missions for other players this easy, of course, but for your own amusement. And it's not just seek & destroy missions that are this easy to create. For example you can also make defend area/object or protect convoy type missions and they'll work reasonably well considering that they were put together in just some minutes. I am aware that good missions require a lot of hard work.

OFP will not leave my hard drive before OFP2 comes to replace it. Be it 2006 or 2010. So no, it's not dead or even dying. I just started playing the orginal campaign only yesterday and now I'm on mission 28 "Rolling Thunder" :-) What a great game, none of the other games in the past 4 years has come even close if you ask me.

Of course you could make a game with graphics that look like modern animation movies but with OFP's 2-5+ kilometers of visible terrain and hundreds of objects to render (all the trees, bushes, houses, characters, tanks etc), there is no computer and video card that could do that in realtime, so there has to be a compromise between graphics quality vs frame rate and visibility. With that in mind OFP graphics are still okay, even compared to some new outdoor games like FarCry and Söldner.

Orbiter is probably the best one out there. If you wan't to do some shooting too, try I've Found Her prequel campaign (it has realistic physics, no "airplanes-in-space") I've Found Her

No, that is not possible since there's no voice synthesizer in OFP. It only uses very limited vocabulary like: "two, flank left" "this is, seven, taking command" "three, can't get there"

If you wan't to use the radio messages from 1985 campaign: (I'm using sounds from the mission 04MontignacMustFall for this example) 1. UnPBO 1985.pbo (you'll only need to do this once, obviously) 2. Copy these files and dirs from 04MontignacMustFall.Eden directory to "yourmission" directory (users\name\missions\yourmission): sound (directory, this is where the sound files are) description.ext stringtable.csv 3. In the editor, use this command on waypoint's or trigger's On Activation field to play sound on the west radio: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">[west, "HQ"] sideRadio "04r1"; 4. You'll find the radio message names and texts from stringtable.csv. 5. You can use messages from different missions by adding the class definitions to description.ext, adding strings to stringtable.csv and copying the sound files (.ogg) to sound directory. There might be an easier way but I doubt it.

OFP directory\ReadMe.chm This document might also be helpful, it has a small mission editing tutorial.

Athlon XP 2000+ (1,6 GHz) 512MB DDR (400Mhz@266Mhz) GF Ti4200 64MB (overclocked) I really need to upgrade for larger missions and mods like Y2K3.

It won't shoot even if I hovered right in front of it. However, the T80 in MFCTI shoots AH64 so I guess I could use that unit but is there another way?

T80 shooting airborne AH64?
Metal Heart replied to Metal Heart's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
But it shoots certain choppers like AH1 and OH-58, but not CH-47, UH60 and AH-64. -
No point, its much better on system resources to model it, take a screenshot from the viewpoint of the gunner and then use that image as a template for a textured iron sight. there is, because you'd see the sights bob a little when moving. You could fake 3D sights with two images to save the resources, but they really aren't that important IMO. Maybe if breathing was a factor they could be of use.

Large number of mods wouldn't be a problem if there was an integrated downloader, like in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. And like in ET, the server should not upload addons to clients, only the location where to get them, that way the server doesn't need huge bandwidth to keep things smooth if players without addons join a game in progress. Downloading & installation should be automatic (like press ok to dl nnnn kB of addons + list of addons needed) and there should be a common naming system for addons, version data and check sums to eliminate conflicts between differents addons and versions and stuff like that. And of course, you wouldn't have to restart game after getting new addons . I'd like all this you know

Ofp2 supporting directx9, dynamic lighting ect!
Metal Heart replied to MrZig's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
All I hope from Flashpoint 2 graphics is more realistic enviroment, instead of golf courses with only a little vegetation. Bushes and trees that sway in the wind would also be a big bonus. In OFP1 it's just too easy to spot a single soldier running hundreds of meters away because the view is so static. It would also be nice if the bushes would move when somebody or something moves trough them (like a rabbit or something )
