Make Arma series under subscription ?
Maddmatt replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
No. Perhaps they could make money selling several expansions. Considering that the game sold very well, I can see that happening. I'd pay for good content. But I wouldn't pay a subscription for a game where much of my time with it will be spent modding it and playing offline, that's just nuts. Offline content is just as important for the game as online, would be ridiculous to have a subscription for that. We don't need BIS to provide us with MP servers anyway. -
It maxes out all their skills.

Yea that was pretty interesting. Can only laugh at those conspiricy nuts who claim it's a hoax though. I like this part: :p

Hybrid Commanding System
Maddmatt replied to mr_centipede's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Sounds like this could make for a good way of controlling fireteams. Individual control when you need it and fireteams for the action :) -
ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
Maddmatt replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
That's because you lost connection to the server for some reason. Not sure that's something BIS can fix... -
Spot the difference
Maddmatt replied to dmarkwick's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Personally I think Chernarus looks better with those distant hills. However having something different would be good for other maps. -
ArmA and ArmA 2 Joint Terrain Project - Baucau, East Timor
Maddmatt replied to OChristie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Good luck with that. It looks like a great map for ArmA 2. Pity they wont share the VBS2 version. -
Rubbish. COD4 bullets don't even deviate from their path after penetrating. And their velocity isn't effected, since it isn't even modelled in the first place... Anyway, it goes deeper than that. .50 cal bullets can penetrate concrete walls and corners of buildings. Bullet path is altered by bushes (you can see falling leaves and branches as bullets pass through). Unlike ArmA, bullet calibre is taken into account. ArmA 1 only based it on velocity.

They licensed the Unreal 3 engine. So all they really need is some art assets and then the animators and scripters can make an "in-game" video. The voice acting hints that it's scripted. Here is a very in-depth interview with the developers: http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html By the sounds of it the game still has a long way to go. I just hope it turns out good :)

Any PC compatible joystick will work for flying. The game has full support for controllers, you can configure them for anything really. For infantry, mouse + keyboard is still the best in my opinion. You could use a gamepad if you want, but your aiming will be crap.

Im thinking about gettimg this game.....
Maddmatt replied to cameron's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Sorry to disappoint you but there are no tits and you can't do anything with the hookers, as far as I know. :p (Except peek up their skirts that is) -
That you should stick to games that don't require much thinking? You seemed like a troll from the start to be honest.

Check your Windows speaker settings in the control panel. ArmA 2 goes by those. Call of Duty on the other hand goes by the settings in its own sound options.

1.02 patch lower image quality???
Maddmatt replied to xy20032004's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Were you playing with a higher fillrate optimiser setting before the patch that added AA support? That might be it, I think higher fillrate or resolution setting affects object detail at distance. I think you could also increase detail further by increasing the "sceneComplexity" value in your "ArmA2Profile" file. You can find it in "\My Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\<yourprofile>" or just "\My Documents\ArmA 2". -
Germans Members take Action! Petition against ban of so called "Killergames"

I hope you're not serious. Shooting rampages happen all over the world. -
Germans Members take Action! Petition against ban of so called "Killergames"
Maddmatt replied to nephilim's topic in OFFTOPIC
Since this applies to Germany, isn't it pointless to post it here? Would be more effective advertising it in German forums. Yea I know there are German's here, but chances are they would see this in a German forum. -
Please don't use Securom copy-protection!
Maddmatt replied to Faucon EPC's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
You could buy the Steam version, no Securom there. -
http://www.bistudio.com/contacts.html You never know until you try :)

1. Yea it's a bit buggy. Never seen that bug though. BIS fix their games, there will be updates. 2. Yes. Post processing in the video options, set it to 'disabled'. 3. That's a strange one. Don't have that problem here. Did you try pressing whatever button on your monitor that auto-detects the settings? Make sure the game is running in the native resolution too. 4. That's because you're new ;) I haven't tried the demo myself though, only the full game. It is a game that takes time to get the hang of. It plays very differently to other games and the difficulty it generally higher. Take things slow. Move slowly, use cover, hide.

Models and textures in OFP2 seem to be lower detail than even ArmA 1. Not to mention little use of normal mapping. Will probably be no more demanding than ArmA 1. Although some things like different lighting techniques, post processing (oh the horror) and possibly more demanding physics will take up more recources. So that could make it more demanding. It's detail is nowhere near ArmA 2 though, it would be crazy if it was as demanding as that :)

ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
Maddmatt replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Typing shit like "inb4..." ought to be an instant ban  Stupid spam. Anyway that sucks if true :( You sure just creating multiple desktop shortcuts doesn't work? Steam allows you to create shortcuts for the games, the command lines should still work there. So O2 doesn't work at all with it? Or is it just slow to open? -
Large missions with heavy scripting and lots of units will take longer to save than simpler missions. Still, that sounds too long. A defrag might help as the others have said. Make sure your hard drive also has a decent amount of free space (15% free required for a proper defrag if I remember correctly).

Yea everyone has their own ideas on what's realistic and how realistic the game should be. If you browse the forums you can see some very long and in-depth debates over all kinds of details. Some even consider themselves to be the authority on how it should be and anyone who disagrees should go play CS or Call of Duty  In the end, it's still a game :) Personally I was against the ACE implementation at the start, but at this point I'm indifferent to it. Don't care either way, they both have valid reasons for being that way.

DID NOT KNOW ABOUT limited SecuROM activations
Maddmatt replied to hannibal636's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I think I covered that when I said "store DVD version" :)
