That's true, however the 6600 is such a low-end SM3 card that you can't actually play any games newer games with that shader model, at least not at a decent framerate. Still, it makes for impressing ads True, but some newer games (Splinter Cell Double Agent and GRAW) wont work on anything lower than a Geforce 6 series. It may not run these games anywhere near high settings, but it can run them whereas lower cards can't. Some less demanding Shader model 3 effects can be used while still running smoothly. Simple light bloom effects (which can be done in shader model 1 and 2 but the results aren't as good - performance is lower), parralax mapping (not very high res though), blur, and some other effects. Although true HDR (not Half-Life 2 style - which is actually SM2) is too much for the card to handle.

I am 99.9% sure there wont be... but its not a big deal, hence even a high graphical game like GRAW doesnt have the mag removal... (i hope i got your comment..) GRAW does have mag removal, why do you say it doesn't? You can see it in 1st person and on other characters. Not sure about the enemy AI though as they are usually dead before I get close enough to see . Thanks. As I have said so many times recently, the .mov format sucks and should never be used.

Actually your specs are a little lower, a Geforce 6600 is a Shader model 3 card and more powerfull than a Radeon 9600. Someone had to say it . Still, your pc isn't that bad. Anyway, I wonder how ArmA will do on a 7800GT

Thanks, could you also ask what we will get in the English Special Edition? And pricing. They may not have decided on that yet though.

Why on Earth do some people use the .mov format? Could someone please upload them in anther format like divx or mpeg? Edit: Nevermind, I saw the videos and they are nothing special. We got these videos in .AVI visit ArmedAssaults.de! Enjoy them telejunky Well at least some people realize that Quicktime sucks

The model is slightly smaller, that's it. A small difference in height wont mess up the anims. Children are even smaller, now that would cause problems as they would need new animations to work properly as the original anims aren't made for such small characters.
-
No it's not Videos look cool, and the animations are really good.

I have one, I dunno if its been asked. Will ArmA be released on the exact same day in all 505 countries? Since South Africa is so far away from the others will we have to wait any longer than the UK for example?
-
You think everyone has a good enough internet connection to download a game? Some don't have any net connection. Without a publisher there is no advertising, advertising attracts much more sales. So, a publisher is still needed.

Night shading effect is still there, but redone so objects in the light have colour. Much better now. Ugly cones need replacement with a better looking beam.

That isn't what he said. He said that some games run better on ATI cards, and some games run better on Nvidia cards. This is true. His question was what card is Arma shooting for. In those cases the difference is small, you can't just choose a card by who makes it. You have to look at the individual cards themselves at whatever price range you are at.

Yep, Beta testers! I said that weeks ago! Looks like the buyers of German version will also be Beta testers. Well I wish I could be one of those "Beta testers". I hope 505 release it sooner than "Q1 2007".

Well I hope they wont translate it into dutch. Gamers in Holland are saying this for years already that we dont want games to be translated to dutch it just doesnt sound good. Well atleast for the one's i know. Or god forbid, the players might actually learn something. Only the text should be translated, so you people can relax

I'm not afrikaans, and I am not very good at it . I'ts not often you see someone from SA on OFP forums, I have yet to actually meet someone in person who actually has heard about ArmA. I've been waiting for 4 years, since I only got into OFP in 2002 when Resistance came out. Hopefully SAIX will set up a local server and we can have some MP games with low ping . OT: You wouldn't be "bazooka" from GRAW mp who kept tk'ing everyone by any chance?
-
Me to, at least we should get the game before the Americans . That doesn't happen very often.
-
I never said I can wait, maybe I implied it but I didn't mean to. I can't wait, I want this game more than any other game. I just meant that simply giving up on waiting for the game is stupid because waiting doesn't actually involve doing anything . Since I'm in South Africa I should get the game when 505 release it. I want my game in english, not German, so I'm not going to import it.

Can you do better? Set up your own fan site. What does it matter whether he can do better or not? The site could use an overhaul. Sometime last year bis mentioned that they were putting up a new site.
-
The demo shouldn't take 4 months, its 10 days till ArmA is out in some places. I don't see why anyone would just lose interest in the game, it's not like you are forced to stare at the website everyday and wait until it's out. Besides, there are other games to play as well. I'm not going to vote in this poll, I think it's pointless. And to the non-German-speaking guys buying ArmA from Germany, how are you going to understand the mission briefings and objectives? Sure you can use english stringtables for menus when they are out but all text in missions will be in German, and the voices for the reporters in cutscenes will be German. Replacing all that with english wont be easy.
-
As already said, it's just a description field. It was in OFP, it's just so that the mission editor can see a description when he moves the mouse over the unit. It has no effect on the mission.

Those are links to websites of mod teams, obviously they haven't got finished mods for ArmA.

How can you hear glass breaking over the sound of a grenade going off? Personally I don't care about the glass in buildings issue.
-
Have you seen their other games? I think those games can wait.
-
I saw the video. The model IS being swapped, the building sinks into the ground, with smoke at the bottom. The model of the building disappears once it is hidden in the smoke and is swapped with the rubble. It is just model swapping covered up, nothing different to normal swapping besides the transition.
-
That's just because they are done badly, they don't cover it properly and you can sometimes see both models at once for a short time. Its not that... i've seen very good scripting used to achieve this on vehicles but it still feels fake since you can easily tell that something was deleted and something was spawned out of nowhere. This was with small vehicles, imagine the horror if it was used on large buildings and structures (like Lipany town hall or a huge hangar). When did i say otherwise? What i say is that it needs some work but its definetly better than something like deletebuilding and createbuilding this... if they slow down the colapsing and add more debris and some remaining walls it will look damn fine . edit: Remember that BIS are the pro's, i doubt they will use bad workarounds in Arma. Most games simply replace models with destroyed versions, sometimes they spawn as multiple pieces, Battlefield 2 seems to do that. What do you expect them to do? Break and deform into hundreds of pieces That kind of destruction is a few more years away. When did i say otherwise? What i say is that it needs some work but its definetly better than something like deletebuilding and createbuilding this... if they slow down the colapsing and add more debris and some remaining walls it will look damn fine . ... That's exactly what bis are doing, swapping a building with the rubble, and covering it up with the building going down into the smoke where it disappears.
