It was not worked on for 5 years, ArmA is not the only thing they are working on. ArmA was started in April 2005. That's not even 2 years.
-
Well the Youtube video I linked to shows it working, so there must be a way. Did you use "Get data from" "External source" and then try Cam2Pan instead of Freelook? Doesn't ArmA pick it up as a button/axis that you can define as a control? Or as TrackIR? Is there anyone else on this forum that can help or who has gotten this to work?
-
It's a youtube video, it just showed up when I was searching on google for more info on this. In the Config.exe is there some way to test if it is picking up your head movement? Once you have that working see if you can assign you head movement to controls in place of the TrackIR (in game), or as other controls if you can't replace the TrackIR commands.
-
Well you need to set it up in the control options, although I guess you already tried that. Give Cam2Pan a try, looks like someone else has got that working:

Because there is no sun to shine the light, duh . There are no shadows from dynamic lights because it just wasn't implemented, I guess it would be a demanding feature when there are several lights shining in an area. Probably also very difficult to implement - on a large open map like in ArmA things get complicated if you want full dynamic shadows. Would look cool though.

Looks like you need to register on those forums before you can follow those links. Once you have registered look in the topic on the FreeLook forums here. There are several interesting links there, scroll further down there for more. Edit: If you can't get it to work with Freelook, try a trial version of Cam2Pan, you can get it here. Problem is that it isn't free.

I don't know, try the "Helmet Settings" tab in the Config.exe, set "Get data from" to "External Interface". The forums for NewView are in Russian so you probably wont get much help there. If you do get it working please post instructions here.

There is no reason to use onboard audio if you can just disable HW Acceleration and EAX. Sound quality with onboard audio sucks.

Disabling HDR would be cheating online, since other players would be blinded by the sun and you wouldn't be. You wouldn't have to worry about you eyes adjusting to the dark either. Also on a 7600, HDR isn't that much of a performance drain. The 7000 series cards handly HDR pretty well.

Well, I can afford it - but it's alot of money for me. A webcam is a fraction of the price of TrackIR, I want to find out if someone else can get a webcam to work and find out how well it works. I may just spend the money on TrackIR, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. I don't play race sims or flight sims much. Besides ArmA, what good is it? I guess it can also be a nice substitute for a mouse when on the desktop or browsing the net .
-
Well when you're still in high school it isn't really worth that much, R1600 (1600 South African Rand). Compare that to about R300 for a webcam. Well made software for a webcam could be just as accurate. How is the TrackIR more advanced than that? Edit: And ArmA is probably the only game I would use it for.
-
Well from what I read you need NewView as well to emulate TrackIR, since Freelook on it's own simply emulates mouse movement.
-
Would be nice if someone wrote a TrackIR emulator for a webcam. I know there is some software to move your head as a mouse, but that's no good for ArmA. Or atleast joystick emulation. Would be cool and much cheaper. The price for TrackIR is just a ripoff IMO.

Have you ever considered that perhaps there is something wrong with your computer? Yes I have make a new install of Windows... and Gothic3 works perfect Arma works perfect in Desert and free Areas, but in Citys and Woods it is bad Turn down viewdistance. Unless you got SLI or an 8800 your pc wont handle anywhere near 1km view. I turned the Shadows off, no i have 30-40fps in the woods but the Shadows are so beautifull Try turning shadows to high/very high. Some newer video cards perform better on high than medium due to the different ways the shadows are programmed for different detail levels. At least I read that somewhere.

You can map the keys in game just fine, no need for that software.

Look at http://www.armedassault.com/ Looks much better, has info about the vehicles and stuff as well.
-
Well if you view the results of the poll (I didn't vote because I don't have the game just yet), you can see that the majority is happy with ArmA. It's just that the whiners tend to be more vocal.
-
You obviously didn't read what he posted, the option in difficulty options doesn't work. Edit: You could edit the config.bin file yourself, that isn't simple if you don't know how but it isn't impossible to figure out. There is a program that can decrypt it.

That's not true, people with 6600s are running the game, obviously on low to medium settings. Some are even playing with Radeon 9600s - on low but what do you expect. 8800 is only really needed if you want to push viewdistance all the way to 10000 and have every other setting at its highest.

Well I remember a year ago "New Armed Assault website coming soon". So I guess that means a demo next Christmas .

They can use the bug list in the wiki: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Armed_Assault:_Bugs_List -
Probably, OFP had new weapons and units added in patches.
