  1. Nice! those 530s are impressive machines, seems like they could be really good scout helicopters if the Army ever realizes that Bell isn't the only helicopter manufacturer.

  2. Wow so Blackwater has 412's over there too, are they still using the MD530's? That 412 is the only civil helicopter I've ever seen with the disco balls on it, wonder how they managed to get a hold of those.

  3. The 500 is lifting a bundle of Christmas Trees, most of the the bigger farms contract helicopters when they harvest trees because they can move the bundles so quickly with a good pilot. Here is what it looks like in a video if you are interested

  4. 10 points if you name the helicopter.

Don't know if its been guessed yet, but thats a Bell 206 with the battery door open and an R-22 behind it. It is possible that it is a Bell 407 though, but I'd put my money on 206. No way of telling in the pic the difference between a Longranger, 407, or Jetranger.

Here is one I took, not professional looking or anything and I'm not gonna downsize it to this boards circa 1992 100kb file limit rule. So here is the hotlink.

  5. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem when I am landing a helicopter and the rotorwash comes up or after I fire an RPG my FPS drops from 30ish down to about 5 until the smoke or dust is gone. Ive tried changing some settings and I'm not sure if anything affects this, but I don't recall it happening when I first got the game (1.01).

    My specs:

    Core2Duo E6600 2.4

    eVGA 8800GTS 640mb superclocked

    2GB 1066 ram

    SATA drive with 16mb cache

    WinXP 32bit

  6. 8800GTS, lower FPS and overall performance, flickering cockpit and uniform textures, ridiculously longer loading times, something is F'ed with the action menu, getting some weird kind of freeze sometimes when I hit escape it says receiving forever and thats it, sooooooo overall it just introduced tons of new problems and lower performance than the last beta which I thought was fairly solid. At least I can play with my friends with the US copy now.

  7. I can confirm the texture problems.

Patched a German 1.05 with additional beta patch.

    GFX: 8800 GTS

HDD: 2 WD Raptor 36MB RAID

    MEM: 2GB

    OS: WinXP SP2 Home

When I place an A10 or a chopper in the editor, I have no icon for the chopper (but a yellow square). When I board the plane or chopper, I have absolutly no interiour textures and my HDD keeps reading with noise as if it had a read-write error.

Overall impression is I have a 50% more loading time, even when opening the editor on Rahmadi. (On previous version it started without delay.)

    UPDATE:

Well, after starting the game via the new link made by the installer, I seem to got rid of the no-texture thing.

(Before I started with additional FinMod-Soundpack.)

However, the longer loading time stays.

And inside vehicles, the textures switch between 2 resolutions at short intervalls. (.5 seconds). Not only the textures of the cockpit but also these of my uniform.

I'm having all of those problems and also have the 8800GTS, someone should just send BIS an 8800 so they can test it themselves before releasing these.

  8. Did you even watch the entire video or read my post? He does a loop from an OGE hover, if it can do a loop there is absolutely no reason that he couldn't invert the aircraft 360 degrees and recover from any direction. Flipping over backwards like that would be the most dangerous as I already said because there is the possibility of cutting off your tailboom if you are too agressive on the cyclic. The only difference in a roll would be that as you build up airspeed coming out the bottom you would problem weathervane

  9. OK just did some experimenting by going into command view and setting the cursor on the rotorhead to watch for movement, the center of rotation is maybe 1 or 2 ft at the absolute most above the rotorhead on the MH6, that is wrong and could probably be fixed easily but I don't think it is such a big problem that people could blame it on crashing, loss of control, etc.

  10. LeftSkidLow,

Adapting to a situation does not justify it. Is like a boxer accepting getting punched with metal gloves.

I will personally pay you $2000 American to show me a rotorcraft that can do a 360-deg roll from a hover with the CG being above the main rotor.

What's that supposed to be some kind of SICK JOKE?

I can show you a helicopter do a backflip from a hover for $799, and being that you said from a hover, initiating a roll would be definitely be possible if not safer, because there is no tail boom to worry about cutting when you yank aft cyclic in a flip, just left or right cyclic in a roll. CG above the rotorhead, can't do that, though I'm not 100% convinced yet that the CG is above the rotorhead in ArmA, I have to experiment a bit more.

    4:00 min mark.

  11. MadDogX,

Are these FS pilots or real pilots. No real pilot will sit back and ignore unnatural flight characteristics.

That's a "Who cares how it gets there as long as it gets there" mentality, lol

I'm rated in rotorcraft irl, and while I agree the characteristics are unnatural I can ignore it, not because of the "as long as it gets there" mentality, but because I have figured out how to get the helicopter to do exactly what I want it to do with practice. Thats what flying helicopters are about, you have to get a feel for the aircraft and make the adjustments necessary to get the aircraft to respond how you want. Thats why helicopter pilots could fly any helicopter. For example a Bell 206 has a counter clockwise rotor system, and most helicopters are this way so thats what I'm used to, but if you put me in an A-Star with a clockwise rotor system, I could still fly it despite torque acting the opposite direction because I just make adjustments as necessary to get the aircraft where I need it. So I look at flying in ArmA sort of as like flying a different type of helicopter, there are a few things that bug me but I can live with it.

  12. I've used a pair for a few minutes that they allow to Helicopter EMS pilots to wear and the resolution was really good. There was no static stuff at all, and the field of view was far greater than that of ArmA. They do have to be adjusted to read the instrument panel and see out of the windsreen at the same time, though I have no idea how its done. It was a binocular type, so maybe one optic is set for close and the other is adjusted for distance.

  14. I'll do that, hopefully it isn't too big though. I already asked one and he doesn't have that file either, so I bet there are quite a few people out there that may run into this problem. I played online for months and never had a problem but I always suspected the SU34 was missing.

  15. I figured out I'm missing air3.pbo. I have the german downloaded version, and have patched it to 1.05. When I originally patched it, I got no errors, I just redownloaded the patch and now it says I'm missing air3.pbo. Any ideas on how to get it working without reinstalling?

  16. I'm getting the "cannot play/edit mission .... .. .. downloadable content has been deleted" error when I try to join a server running the new RTS maps. So I went and opened up the mission.sqm to see which addons are required and the only thing I can think of is the SU34. I have 1.05 but I have yet to see this aircraft, its not there in the mission editor (I looked in all the possible menus, even civilian and empty) , no evidence of it my addons folder, I opened air.pbo, ca.pbo and the wheeled.pbo trying to find any kind of data that might hint that I have it but there is nothing.

Maybe I'm just crazy or I don't know what I'm doing, but it really seems I don't have the su34, which would cause this error message. If it turns out I don't have it, how can I get it?

  17. Thats kinda what I was thinking Plaintiff, for me ArmA is an online game, and though I would like to be only one of a select few to tame the beast that is a helicopter, I know from experience in online games that such a concept would never benefit teamwork or the completion of missions. The fact is, that whoever clicks on the pilot slot first in those coop missions is your pilot, and more than half the time they have no clue what they are doing, thats online gaming for you. Whether it is your so called "combat simulation" or not. Now give them LTE, mast bumping , settling with power, vortex ring state, dynamic rollover, or even half the skill that is required to hover a non SAS helicopter, they would never get 50 yards without crashing. Sorry folks, compromises need to be made in some areas for the benefit of the masses. Some guys weren't meant to fly, but they are gonna try anyway and you are along for the ride.

  18. I don't ever use the S-61 in X-plane, but all the others (ie jetranger) are twitchy as f*ck, yes just like a real helicopter, except you aren't in a real helicopter with all the senses so its just frustrating more than anything. I'll even tell you a real cyclic is touchier than in X-plane, but its alot easier to fly a real helicopter than in X-plane. Xplane is just over the top unless you have a full motion sim with correct controls, even then it wouldn't be the same. So if you can hold a dead hover in X-plane there is no logical explanation to me how you can say its harder in ArmA. It doesn't do what you expect it to do? it just sits there 100% stable unless you are over correcting. Turns at cruise airspeeds? yeah they're funky and need correcting but are not difficult, same deal with aft cyclic.

  19. ..but still harder than a hardcore flight sim...does'nt make sense to me.

And aditionally ist is obvioulsy part of the game.

Dude have you ever played X-plane, how can you say its harder than a hardcore flightsim. In ArmA you can establish a hover and just let go of the controls and it will pretty much stay there, it doesn't get any easier than that.

Quote[/b] ]If helicopters being able to roll axialy about the X axis is "more realistic" someone shoot me now.....

I don't know who is going to shoot you, but here you go.

    http://video.google.com/videopl....er+roll

I know everyone and their mother has seen this one but has a AH-64 barrel roll at the end.

    Bo-105 can do anything

I'll never try it, but I don't see any reason why if done correctly inverted maneuvers would be impossible in a helicopter. Probably just need to keep the rotor disc loaded to prevent mast bumping and keep the ball centered.

  20. Sure you could crank the view distance up to 10km on an 8800, but you would still only see about 3400m, there is some lame fog that wont let 8800 users see further than that.

I'm pretty sure the "lame fog" you're talking about is exactly what this fixes. Unless it just somehow happens to be an identical problem caused by something completely different.

Hmm maybe, I was under the impression you were talking about a bug on all cards that doesn't produce a change in view distance from 5km and up. An 8800 can't even get up to 5km, you can set it, and you FPS will drop, but you will still only see about 3.4km.
