    CTD upon Keymap Setting (x52)

I just downloaded the game off Steam and I'm having the same issue. Logitech Extreme3d Pro USB; no profiler settings.. WinXP SP2 MSI 750a SLI Athlon x2 6000 3Ghz 2Gb HyperX DDR2 1x SATA2 WDC 2x GeForce 9800GT RGB/Analog 40" LCD TV @1320x768 60Hz Thank you Dark for the workaround, saved me who knows how much time figuring it out. Game otherwise seems to be working as expected.

    Hardware Issues: Tips/Tricks/Solutions

Hey all; I admit I haven't read this entire thread but I want to get this out there. ArmA International Sprocket 1.12b AMD X2 5200+ @2.6Ghz 1GB RAM ATI x1650 Pro w/512 8XAGP WinXP/DX9 Catalyst 8.4 with CCC No O/C Okay so I'm using dual lcds and their native res is 1280x1024. Â This means that my in-game res is 2560x1024. Â Lots of pixels to render. I was pleased to see the patch work that was being done on ArmA so I reinstalled it after a somewhat fresh XP install. At first I was having strange graphics anomolies so I read this thread. Â I set my AGP Aperture from 128 to 256 and I was able to select a higher texture setting and my framerates improved, though I was still getting anomolies. I did some research on Vsync and was extremely displeased to find that ATI has disabled Vsync control in order to cater to Vista users. Â I downloaded ATITrayTools and was able to disable it. Â No more anomolies and no negative side effects, plus an increase in framerate. I want to thank Maruk for showing us Contig.exe. Â For ease I copied it into the ArmA folder and made a shortcut that goes like this: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\Contig.exe" -s *.* -v I will probably add this to a batch file so it runs before ArmA every time. Now here is my issue. Â I was relatively satisfied with my framerate/settings so I joined an empty server with a low ping for the first time. Â I had all kinds of audio issues, which I'll hash out on my own, but more importantly, ever since, loading menus and the map take forever, in editor mode and sp. Â I haven't begun trying to solve this problem yet, and I know the first step is to clear my MP Cache, but I was hoping for an explanation as to why this occurs. As an ATI AGP user I have to point out that my rates are always better with NO AA and NO AF. Â Also changing my texture settings has little effect, and I believe this is because I have 512MB vram. Â Also Catalyst A.I. DISABLED improves my framerate. When buying a medium-grade card to go into my aging AGP system, I'm really glad I got a card with 512MB vram. Anyway I want to pat BI on the back for the work they have been doing; I'm seeing MASSIVE improvements in the areas of performance and AI since v1.05. Â Thank you for fixing the throttle in the A10. Â Now we can taxi! A couple things that are bugging me (pardon the pun) include the LOD dropdown, the sound, and again the issue with loading menu and map. Â Sorry I don't have more specific complaints but I'll take any advice you have. The LOD problem - to me - means that a building 15m away is extremely blurry until I stare at it for a couple seconds, then it magically clears up. Â Meantime, buildings that are 50m away are sharp and pretty. Â I would prefer to be able to disable all performance dropdowns so I can identify bottlenecks. Do we still have a -nomap switch? Â What's -maxmem? I'm seeing lots of interesting settings for LOD in ATITrayTools, but I'm kind of clueless in this area so if someone knowledgeable could talk about that I'd appreciate it. Â I understand there are ArmA application settings for this but I don't know where they are. Anyway I could go on and on but I'll keep reading in the hopes that I can learn more about onboard sound issues and LOD but thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your valuable advice.

    Arma around the world

People's Republic of Oregon here. WARNING: Â Discourse which may be interpreted as whiny, bitchy, moany, and pouty follows. Â By reading on you forfiet your right to accuse me of the following: -Warrentless complaining -Flamebaiting -Spreading bad Chi, Mojo, Ka, or any such forces -Daring to even think negative thoughts about Bohemia Interactive For the last two years or so I've been reading hundreds of pages of threads, trying desperately to find the few rare, tiny bits of actual, confirmed, BI-sanctioned facts about the game and its release. I've seen a vast, confusing array of screenshots that all seem so totally different from each other; all steeped in rumor and false hopes; many of which have turned out to be VBS or the fabled 'Game 2'. I watched with pretend interest as the (clever but ultimately stupid) blog developed, meting out photoshopped screenshots and providing no useful information aside from the nature and geography of the imaginary conflict, of which I care little. I've tried my best to make sense of badly-translated interviews and tech reviews from obscure sites which promise things like 'perpetual online war' and 'improved a.i.', of which no indication or evidence has surfaced, and in fact, in many cases has been contradicted by what seems like hours of shaky 8mm video of an lcd showing what appears to be a couple of Czech-speaking special needs students trying to play the game. Â In these videos I've seen all of the same jerky animations, collision problems, robotic speech, and retarded a.i. that have been driving me nuts for five years now. I've suffered months of speculations on possible release dates; been desensitized again and again by conjectures of 'Maybe they're planning a big surprise', or 'The demo should be available long before release', or 'Maybe they're still working with CM in secret', or 'There are plans for online distribution', or 'They could just self-publish it'. Now I'm seeing a mishmash of unheard-of, hole-in-the-wall publishers vying for territory like in a game of Risk, and we have confirmation that at least one third-party copy protection program will be integrated, on top of the Great and Powerful Oz, er, FADE (Freudian slip). Now we have some German guy taking people's money up front with the promise of securing a high quantity 'wholesale' purchase of Armed Assault boxes, and all Placebo says is that 'we cannot condone or allow any advertising by 3rd parties offering commercial services of any kind' but makes no effort to comfort the massive English-speaking market that they have some alternative to buying a German version that has had its English text removed in the hopes of finding a decent enough translator who is willing to sit there for at least a good workweek UNDOING the removal of English text. Â 'The buttons and stuff will still be in German, but it'll be familiar enough for us to know what is what...' Â Come on people, are you kidding me? Then the people who say 'I'll buy the first version I can get my hands on and then when the proper one is available, I'll buy that one too.' Â Oh, right. Â I want to pay twice for the game because BI can't coordinate their release in a fair way. Â Reward them. Â Good. Look, I've held my tongue. Â I've been a good little lurker, and I honestly mean no personal offense to anyone by saying these things. Â But lets look at what some of us have been watching. Â The tone of this post might be characterized as 'disappointed', but the real feeling behind it is one of wonder and disbelief, kind of like when you see 13-18 million illegal aliens crossing freely into your country on an annual basis with no visible concern on the part of your government. Â The feeling can be summed up using the following phrase: Â I just can't believe this. I'm the first to sing the praises of BI's brilliance in software development, and I at least try to explain OFP's significance to every gamer I meet on this side of the pond, but at this point I have to operate under the assumption that Armed Assault will not be released in the US. Â Until I see the box on the shelf in my major retail store, or until BI sends me a letter in the mail (they have my address, remember that silly contest?), I intend to ignore Armed Assault completely. I hope all you Germans and Czechoslovakians enjoy your new game, and I hope, although it has become nearly impossible to imagine, that it was worth the aforementioned debacle of a wait. As for me, I'll be playing World of Warcraft. Â

    Which guns do you own

Here's my Sig P228. Â The next gun I buy will be another P228. Â If anyone has a link to an inexpensive rail kit for it, share, by all means. Also have a Remington Fieldmaster.22 pump. Linky Read the god damn rules sheez. pic >100KB Roger that Shadow. Â I had to check with the rules because this is the first time I've used the image tag. Erg, now I have to fix it again. Thanks.

    Racial Violence Continues in Australia

Only the ones who cross illegally, stepping in front of hundreds of legitimate immigrants, are referred to as 'illegal aliens'. However, the liberal media characterizes them as 'undocumented citizens', and 'Mexican Nationals'. Not to stray but personally I like Mexicans, really. They're one of my favorite ethnicities (okay so am I racist now?). But the U.S. illegal immigration problem is having some really noticeable effects and it's unfair, IMO, to the legitimate immigrants who attempt to immigrate legally. A seperate but related example: I stay away from people who wear the following: Bulky jackets bandannas wifebeater tanktops 'bling' tatoos that include roman numerals pants around the knees Everyone knows that these people are dangerous. Everyone also knows that most of them are black. Does that mean I think every black person is a ghetto gangster? No. Just like not every Muslim is a terrorist whereas (very nearly) every terrorist is a Muslim. Racism is a red herring. I should also mention that I'm an apartment manager, and we are presented with a difficult situation. A person of hispanic descent who has no U.S. identification and speaks very little English wants to rent an apartment. Accept him without knowing his citizenship, and you break the law. Deny him without knowing conclusively that he isn't an American, and you are targeted by the ACLU and others. It's situations like these that (intentionally) perpetuate racism.

    Who activated the trigger

Ahh, I've never really played with 'sentry'... 'Guard' as far as I knew was just like hold except they tend to wander about in an increasing radius. I will read what you linked to later today; I have to leave. Thanks for a quick response.

    Who activated the trigger

Sorry to dig up an oldie but I'm having essentially the same problem, just in a different context. West groups Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie all land on an island. East patrol group Alpha eventually spots one of the West groups, causing East response group Bravo to move to the position of the unit/group who detected West. I'm looking into the knowsabout thing but I'm also wondering if maybe East patrol group Alpha could pop smoke and East response group Bravo could go to the location of the smoke grenade (or from where it was thrown)? And/or cause a gamelogic to be camcreated near the group who sets off the trigger? Maybe camcreate the gamelogic and setpos it to the East group in (detect trigger) thislist that knowsabout west units in thislist? Different West groups complicates it, but basically I want East response group Bravo to go to the last place where an East group sighted a West unit. Any quick and easy solutions?

    Next-Gen CTI

I admit I've only played MFCTI v1.16. Â But the paragraph you quoted was in regards to ideas in this thread (such as forces spawning in captured towns). Â What I was meaning to say is that, just like you don't expect an ammo crate to magically appear in front of you, you wouldn't expect an entire squad to do the same. I understand your point about accelerating fuel consumption and how it amounts to reducing realism in order to create the illusion of realism. Â But aside from starting all vehicles with 0.1 fuel or accelerating fuel burn, can you think of a better way to take advantage of BIS's thoughtful inclusion of this and other logistical features? Â We would all love to have continent-sized TOEs but currently that's impossible. Â I'd be willing to bet that a discussion much like this one took place during development: Â Do we set fuel capacities and usage to their actual values or do we scale it to the islands so that it's actually useable in-game? Â Apparently they chose to allow us to choose. Not entirely sure what you meant to say here, but I only meant that, rather than ideas, all we've heard from you is criticism of other peoples' ideas. This post isn't about how we feel about CTI so much as it's about suggesting different ideas as to where to take it in the future. Â I didn't like CTI when I played it because it fell short of my expectations. Â I contributed to this thread because I understand the implications of a CTI-type game as it relates to a highly realistic war simulation and was relieved to see that discussion is ongoing as to enhancing this basic, underdeveloped gameplay style into something that takes advantage of everything OFP has to offer. You have to admit that there's always a pessimistic, counter-productive poster who pokes his head into idealistic threads to do nothing but discount peoples' ideas, flamebait, and try to show how much they know. Â We've all seen it a thousand times. No hard feelings mate but if you can't contribute your own ideas, you should probably hold your tongue when it comes to others'. Also some of the neatest ideas I've ever heard for OFP have come from people who have never played it, or have only a little experience with it, so it's not about how much you know or how much you've played, it's about thinking outside the box and having the guts to speak up. EDIT: In all fairness, the resupply truck is a step in the right direction.

Don't bother explaining. There's always someone like Zurg. He can't think of ideas on his own so he spends his time trying to cut down everyone else's. He'll get bored with this thread soon, so I suggest you just ignore him until he does. BTW, BIS integrated logistics for a reason. Medical care, ammo, fuel... everything up to the availablilty of forces all fall under this category. Would you expect that, if you run out of mags, that an ammo crate should just spawn in front of you? Do you think medics should be able to 'beam' to your location to heal you? Why should forces be able to spawn in captured towns? In reality, unless reinforcements can get to that town in a hurry, it is all but lost. Food and mail were my suggestions and they may be stupid but if time acceleration is used or if its a perpetual capaign, soldiers should not be left in the field without MREs or a social connection. Without these things the soldiers' effectiveness will decrease. Those of us with a little imagination know that although OFP units don't get hungry, they don't really get injured, either. As a matter of fact, they're not even real. Still we find it important to have medics available.

    Next-Gen CTI

I wouldn't mind playing 'logistics guy' all day. Or 'medical support guy' all day... Â Perhaps medics should be restricted to players only. Â They would have a seperate base and their capabilities could be increased from a field hospital with a jeep to an m113 ambulance to a blackhawk. Â If nobody wants to head up the medical support team, then there will be no medical support in that game. I would play 'repair guy' all day, too. EDIT: Or I guess 'repair and salvage' guy would fit best. Or 'recon guy', flying the A10 on limited-fuel unarmed sorties to try to locate enemy positions. Â Any positions located aren't reported until a successful landing is accomplished. And yes I would play 'mess guy' all day too; delivering MREs to various posts, depending on the soldiers who occupy those posts to get me in and out safely. Maybe 'mail guy' - for extended deployments... Â If a mail call gets to your post you and your men recieve a morale boost. Just some thoughts. Â I really like the logistics stuff. Â CTI always bothered me (Where the hell did this soldier come from? Â Where was he fifteen minutes ago? Â In the womb? Â The ground?) with the command-and-conquer style instant generation of forces in the middle of Everon. Â I would say that this is an excellent opportunity to use something that was thoughtfully included in OFP but shamefully ignored: Â Logistics support.

    Comref?

Err... What was the topic again? Oh, yes, a comref right away would be nice, but I'd be shocked if all of the commands we've come to know and love aren't implemented, so it's not like we'll be crippled without it.

There're only 10 types of people in this world - those who understand binary and those who not. Â Good one

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello from the parent's house in the upper-income part of town. They own the apartments that I run, which are in... not such a nice part of town. For those of you who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I highly recommend it. It's one of my favorite holidays. Like Christmas without the greed. I enjoyed reading your post, Shin. This year, I'm thankful for: Bohemia Interactive Studios for their contributions to the human race; Placebo for his unending patience and tact; Earl and Suchey for their Marine Assault Pack; IBM for thier solid line of Thinkpad laptops; Cabernet Sauvignon for its velvety taste and fuzzy feel; The 24-hour Starbucks for always being there; My mom for always finding humor in any situation; Apollo and the rest of {AAF} for accepting me and continuing their interest in OFP; Portland Community College and the administrators of the Pell grant for allowing me to continue my education; My new grandma, stepdad, and uncles for trusting me and providing me with a job and housing; Stephen King for completing the Dark Tower Series; and finally: Myself for continuing to hold on to my moral convictions and socio-political beliefs in a time of national division and angst.
