The graphics are NOT better the more you turn up your video. All high terrain detail does is make shiney smooth ground. oooooohhh shiny ground.. On my computer, well then again it is my sucky, worthless POS computer that I use, when you turn up the resolution all that happend is your screen shrinks. Wow it might be the best looking graphics in the world, but its about the size of my thumbnail. I dunno about you but back when I played CS if you adjusted the resolution it was still the same size as your screen, but everything looked much better. And my computer didnt get about 1 FPS for having a nice resolution while playing CS, like its does in OFP. Now heres what has always bother me about the graphics in OFP; The soldier models. No offense to the BIS staff, but the soldier models could have used some work. They just look well, ugly. Especially the Resistance Soldiers, their arms and shoulders are stretched out distorted, and like all the other soldiers, they have the stangest shirt I have ever seen. The collar comes up into nothing and the neck is just sticking out. If there is anything I hope BIS will do with OFP2, it will be create better Soldier models.<span id='postcolor'> Few points: 1) Never compare OFP to counterstrike, such comparisons will be ignored, anyone can tell you why. 2) Your system sounds like a low-end system with a low-end graphics card, please correct me if i'm mistaken. 3) Changing screen resolution is not what increases the detail levels, you are making judgements about OFP without the knowledge to back them up. If you change the screen resolution higher and it looks too small for you your monitor is too small and you should set a low resolution as that's all it can display properly. I don't think you have ever seen what Operation Flashpoint looks like with all the details turned up high. If your system can support it and you have a good graphics card like a Geforce 4 or Radeon you can adjust the display properties in Resistance Preferences and also move the detail and FPS scrollbars to the far right in OFP Options. Combined with high detail terrain the graphics become much more vivid, the charactor models smoother aswell as much more nicer looking vehicles. Most people with decent computers can attest to this.

I don't agree with you Mongoose. I think that is what is traditionally done by other game developers, they develope average games for average computers. BIS designed OFP so that you could turn down the detail and play it on low-end machines but as players upgraded their computers and as the technology evolved they were able to increase the detail and as such OFP graphically still looks nice today. Considering the developement timescale it is important to always focus on the best graphics that they can do because at the end of the developement process often much faster systems are available and much better graphics cards. We should always strive for the best possible gaming experience I and think everyone who spends money to keep their computer up to date would like games that are released to actually take advantage of the power of their systems and display graphically impressive games rather then cut down versions for budget players. Just my opinion

Oh I imagine BIS have ideas on how to overcome this </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> Flashpoint.ru: What perspective of your development do you see in the future? Which trends in the game industry are you going to choose and which technologies? Marek Spanel: Operation Flashpoint was our first big published game. We learned many lessons and we want to use the experience it in our next games. During last months, our studio has grown and we moved to new offices. Our research and development continues and there are many areas of technology that we focus on and that we're excited about. I don't want to be too specific but I'll just list some of the main areas: vertex/pixel shaders and better surface materials, realtime lightning and shadowing, face capturing, hands capturing, improved animations, realistic representation of vegetation, performance optimizations, streaming of landscapes and data, better add-on management (with having on mind the existing assets to the original Operation Flashpoint so we shall try to let them operate in the new generation game as fine as possible), improved mission editing and scripting, improved AI, improved physical simulation and collisions, join in progress in multiplayer. But most of all, we always focus on great freedom, open ended environment, open architecture of the game and specific style with strong approach towards realism in the gaming environments. <span id='postcolor'>

You don't need to trust me, trust that BIS make good games. But judging by what you have seen from BIS so far, would you expect a new game from them to be good or not good? Easy answer

You should be drooling just knowing BIS is making something new. Seriously you know Suma, Maruk etc, they are great guys and when great minds are working on a new game you can bet it will be something we will love After playing OFP I have a great amount of respect for BIS and trust them 100% that whatever they release will be something new and innovative, not just a clone.

The little i know which i really can't say, but the little i know about what is coming has me drooling. I can say what everyone should be able to work out and this isn't an expansion this is a brand new game with a new engine. Bah I was gonna type more but I'll jump on with BIS and keep the suspense going

    Map editor zoom-in feature?

or if you hold down shift you can select the objects under stuff like waypoints, you can do multiple getin waypoints on one object this way. While we are giving editor tips: If you want to rotate a group of soldiers, or a group of objects to face another direction, select them, hold down shift and drag your mouse in a certain direction, and they will rotate as you move.

    Missing addon, bmp2

I encounter this problem a lot when designing missions. What often happens when using addons is the addon isn't placed in the sqm file so an error displays when the mission is loading. The way around it is to place it in manually. Sometimes it even happens when I use weapons like the silenced glock in missions, the message "Missing addon bis_resistance" or "bis_weaponpack" if you add these manually it works. Annoying error but I can deal with it for now, I'm sure the BIS guys have something they are already working on

    Any good operation flashpoint/resistance server?

I might just mention that you only need to download 130mb of addons if you do not have any of the existing addons. OGN Provide an auto update program which will check whether you have the right addons, and download those you do not have automatically. With this tool you will never worry about where to get addons as our server will send them to you automatically, you do not even need to know where to install them Run the Tool, It auto downloads / installs / connect to OGN, job done. Regards,

    Adf mod update

I am working on a project with one of my squad members TheSh@dow. What we are making is an autoupdater which connects to our OGN server's FTP site, checks if the player is missing any addons that the server uses and downloads anything missing automatically installing it to the correct OFP directory location. So we will be adding addons or removing them without the need for addon packs at all, and all the player has to do is check for updates. Missions will also be sent this way so 56k players can download before they connect. We are testing it this afternoon.

    Adf mod update

I can't believe they had the balls to ask the ADF mod to remove the need for Aussie crew... They are AUSTRALIAN addons, So we will have AUSTRALIAN CREW. Deal with it.
  20. I've been making some desert missions with the rangers lately, and also quite a few snow missions. I use Kegetys' snow script for the winter missions but no matter how much you increase that script its never really quite a snow storm. Is there a dust / snow script that can be used to simulate dust and snow flying around in the wind? There is something just not right about Desert Malden when there is no wind stirring up dust. Now it doesn't have to be all over the map, of course that would cause a huge FPS slowdown, it would be ideal that the player sees it whereever he looks and gets the impression its everywhere, so have it in front of his eyes sort of thing. Any help would be much appreciated, it would add a lil extra to desert / snow missions.
  21. Yes but it is nowhere near a "storm", visibility is never obscured, even with very high intensity it really isn't more than a light snowfall. And there is currently no dust script, which is maybe what I am more interested in. A dust storm script.

    Multiplayer annoyances

Hah, look at you two in exile, the two Gameplanet outcasts. It is totally ironic seeing you two in "Multiplayer Annoyances" topic, you two definately fit in here. Curious as to why you would believe OFP dead... I just launched Australia's newest OFP server and we reached 32 players within minutes, we couldn't fit anymore. Well I'll leave you two lovebirds to it

    Deltas and rangers released!

I didn't notice any ability to self heal..? I was injured and needed to wait for another unit to be nearby so I could heal. And also one of my troops, a sniper was injured and I had to run back to him to heal him, if he could of healed himself he wouldn't of needed that..

    Linux server

There is a pretty good tool called "ServerDoc" which will restart the server when stopped and I think you can set times when it will start aswell, very handy.
