    Fade ?

I've had OFP since it was realeased, I actaully preordered it as an import. When I first started playing it I didn't know how fade worked so I got a cheating patch, one of those that lets you have infinite bullets, I didn't see any noticable change in game play (like accuracy) & I've long since reinstalled the game several times, but what I want to know is simple things about fade eg: does is stay in the regestry after you reinstall? Is the accuracy way off like in feet or just a few inches? I would like to know what to look for (not how fade works) because I can't tell if fade is activated or the game is just being realistic. It would be nice if there was a FAQ on fade, nothing that could be used to potentially trace it, but things like symptoms. Thank you Suma, I appreciate you reopening this topic, I've wanted to ask these questions for quite some time but been afraid the post would be closed because the moderators got the wrong impression. I'm not out to hack fade, I just don't want to be playing with a handicap.

I have this problem too. I'm not sure why this happens, but you'll have to manually change the settings in the Flashpoint.cfg using a text editor.

Best drivers for geforce 4 ti 4400

I'm on an Athlong 2100+ (1.733ghz) 512mb PC2100 DDR ram, Asus A7M266 mobo, SB Audigy 5.1, GeForce4 Ti4600 driver version 29.42, I've never been able to run with textures at more than 1024x1024, my system just chugs. I can't put the distance slider above 3000 without getting serious lag. So I put it at 1500 with High quality textures that are all 256x256. Geometry performace is at 10333. I used fraps running in 1152x864 32bit res & got 80 to 90 frames in most areas. Any suggestions for tweaking would be appreciated.

    Constructive criticism

I would have thought someone would have noted this as it's been in all of the other versions, but if you are injured & you heal or you're out of ammo and you rearm. Your picture in the squad icons does not go back to normal, you stay in red unlike the other soldier's pictures which change back once they are healed or rearmed.

    Addon problems, please read!?!?

It sounds like your system doesn't know what program to use to open files with a .zip extension, so if you're running under windows 95/98/me etc... make sure you have winzip, winace or winrar. Windows XP has a built in feature for zipped files. Once you get the zip open, you should extract the .pbo files right to the addons folder in the ofp directory.

    A new ofp?

Remember OFP was in development for 3 years, so in that time the graphics world changed a lot.<span id='postcolor'> Yeah & America's Army is only using Geforce-2 technology. Most hardcore gamer's have at least a Radeon 8500 or a Geforce 4 series video cards (excluding 7500's & Geforce4mx's.) So the're really is room for (graphical at least) improvement to an OFP2.

The graphics are much more advanced, but it's not like BIS is designing VBS1 for something equal to Deep Blue. I don't really know much about the usmc and their computers, but it would probably be easy for BIS to determine what kinda of systems VBS1 will be running on, so they can fine tune it, like any developer would for a console game. If VBS1 was realeased to the public (a snowball's chance in hell it would be), I'm guessing the requirments would probably be in the range of a recommended 1ghz 256mb-ram 64mb-video 2gigs of hard drive space & 3gigs for swapping. It just doesn't look all that far fetched for a game that late-model systems to future systems can't handle.

    ?optical cammoflage?

I saw it tlc a couple years back. it was something like the future battlefield. I remember seeing some kinda demonstration of it & I thought is was real, just a prototype that cost a couple trillion dollars. Now that I think about it, the show was probably digitally edited. The idea is still really interesting though. I also remember seeing a piece of 1' x 1' cloth or something that was rigged with fiber optics so it actually mirrored images on both sides.

    Alarms

Setting the trigger to "detected by ----" seems to work on & off. I have a mission I'm working on where I assault an air base full of russians. I have a trigger set to about 700 meters around the center of the russians, the alarm will sound when west is detected (btw, the single low blaring alarm is "play alarm" listed under sounds:annonymous or sounds:voice not "alarm" under sounds:trigger) and all the russian groups are set to go into aware & run to the front line when the trigger goes off, but sometimes my group plus 4 other squads are less than 300 meters away with 7 or so M60's lighting our entire offensive line and.... no alarm for 3 or 4 minutes, the russians just sit there enjoying their campfires and getting riddled with bullets. I don't know, sometimes it works perfectly and other times it doesn't work at all. I've had problems with triggers in the past & all I can decipher is the triggers are not 100% reliable.

    I r not happy

I agree that a lot of the OFP community is now gone, and I do think this is due to BIS neglecting several things. The situation with the tools I'm sure is complicated, but I don't understand what the big problem is with giving the public access to them? Look at Bethesda Softworks that just realeased Elderscrolls III: Morrowind. The tools they used to create the game were shipped with every copy, the tools also automatically install with the game, & before you even start the game, the screen for the mods comes up asking you which ones you want to enable. So bethsoft actually incurages people to create modifications for the game. Unfortunatly the EULA for Morrowind basically says what we create is ours & what you create is ours, but that's a whole lot better than not having the tools at all. Another thing that BIS seemed to neglect is the amount of people that want to create addons. I agree that some people just want to mess with the game, and others just put out crap, but some people actaully want to create quality addons equal to that of the game. It just shows how much people enjoy the game & want to improve upon it. NOT how much they want to infringe copy rights, or contradict trade marks. People just want to play they gave & have fun. What is so wrong with this? It's sad to see soo many promising mod teams dissappear due the lack of support. One other thing that BIS has decided to do is have a "hush hush" atitude towards the community. What, are we in the CIA? Is there a problem with keeping people filled in on the work in progress? eg: There's lots of people wanting to know what kinda models will be in Resistance, why is there a problem with realeasing this information? I see this as annoying simply because someone might be trying very hard to come up with an addon which the've put XX number of hours into. Little did he know that his addon was already included in the expansion so all those hours of work were a waiste of time, he could have been working on something else. Or what about other things such as responses to forum posts, not to say the moderators don't respond, but some subjects seem to be out-of-bounds for them. Like the "what do you want to see in ofp2" or whatever the subject name is that's up right now in the general section. hellfish6 posted some verrry good ideas, amoung the best I've seen. It'd would really be cool to see a developer get involved  in the brainstorming (not like placebo wanting pink bunnies with m60's) responding to things saying stuff like "that's a insteresting concept, it can't be done without this so that's another thing to think about etc etc". Is that too much to ask or not enough to care? Either way, I believe the ofp community is shrinking because people just lose interest when the're kept in the dark not knowing about ofp's potential with addons that are keeping it alive. Do you think The Sims would have been as big of a hit if Maxis or Electronic Arts kept tight lipped on how to create addons/mods for it? It's inevitable that junk addons will flood ofp fan sites, but it's just like missions, they can be critiqued & ranked so that people know the addon's quality & the authors quality. As for the issue with BIS, OFP is an excelent game along with many others. I really enjoy it & I'll continue to buy BIS products in the future. But they just need to lighten up, soo many other titles go through the same problem and in the end come out a better game becuase they just gave in & let their fans have what they wanted.

The picture I posted is just a shot of the prototype, I didn't say "look this is what foot soldiers SHOULD be carrying." My point is not about the portable version. I would like to see an M134 (or equivalent) mounted on a helicopter.

    Uh-1n by the svfe team

what kinda weaponry does/will it have? Thats one of the advantages of martin's addon is the side mounted mg50. The firing rate & accuracy is fairly good, compared to the game's standard (whatever they want to call it.) I find it unique.... at 100 meters you can't hit the broad side of a barn. & also, how many people will the huey hold including the pilot & gunner? Thank you

    Looky here

I'm not a predator/aliens/terminator fanatic, but I would like to see a minigun in there. For the purpose of laying down ahellofa lot of fire power when needed, which no in-game machine gun can do at the moment. (carried or mounted) eg: I have a mission where I'm attacking the Malden airfield filled with around 100 or so enemy troops. Â I'm the gunner on one of the choppers flying in ground forces. I havent counted but there's about 25 to 30 enemy machine gunners firing at the choppers. Now putting out 3 or 4 bullets a second isn't gonna cut it. I need a machine gun that you can't exactly count how many rounds you shoot off by the sound. I need something that sounds more like a table saw. I don't think it would be too unrealistic to at least mount something like an m134 in the gunner's position. As far as an addon for it being carried, that's a little far fetched. It would probably be dificult for someone to make an animation for it. Although the grenade launcher has a revolving animation on it so who knows what someone might be able to do. Also the *portable* m134 never made it to the production line, so it would be unrelistic, but not totally out of the question. A mod with one mounted on the back of a CH47 would be nice.
  18. Is there a way I can trigger a hellicopter pilot to start the engine but not take off, with a script or code snippet?
  19. hey thanks, I'll try those out
  20. I've been designing a mission that uses a few triggers, a couple activate eject scripts for two groups in a chinook & the others tell the chopper pilot what height to fly. When I create the triggers, I tell them to activate with west present & group them to the group leader and the other triggers to the pilot. I'll play the mission through the editor to try & fine tune it and figure out any flaws, but at random times the triggers fail to do what their supposed to do & I have to create them over again. I can't copy & paste them because it doesn't work. I do notice in the activate field that it switches from West to vehicle. I just guessed that was because they were in the chopper, but the same thing happens to the pilot. At random times he won't fly at the height he's supposed to eg:(moron flyinheight 150) Anybody know why this is? On top of that, the chopper pilot seems to have eccentric fixation and flys in a big arch instead of a straight line. He'll get to the next waypoint, but not without flying 1500 meters off course first. This can contribute to the triggers not working if he totally misses the activation area, but I've checked the map & he'll be in the area, the triggers just wont be working.

Please one more patch before resistance!

It would be nice to see an option to set how long tire tracks would last, Then missions could be made with your objective to track a vehicle. Footprints would be better, but since there are none, longer tire marks would do.

    Pay for official Addons

if BIS came out with an ultimate addon pack, that had for example: (X -being a number): 1x vehicles, x missions, x new units, x new weapons, and a diferent mode of play. I would see something like that worth spending up to $60 for. The addons in the past have been good, why not pack a whole bunch of new ones together & charge me for it. I wouldn't mind as long as the addons are useful & not like a diferent color truck. I was thinking more in terms of a truck with a machine gun so you can carry a whole squad like the russian boat can. I don't understand why the people who say they don't want to see a vehicle in the game because it would crash. It's not like BIS is gonna make it so realistic that the player can easily lose control. Everything in real life has problems, there's not a single type of plane or jet out there that's never crashed. I like AV8B's, regardless that I've seen lots of those crash during VTOL. Community Pessimism

I have more of a neutral view of the ups & downs of OFP, I don't agree with a lot of pessismistic attitudes on the forum, but I see where they come from so I'm not going to rant on them for being close minded. I'm a very big gamer & OFP is by far one of the best war games I've ever played, yet when I hear about projects like this VBS thing for the millitary I can't help but think, "geez, now BIS is gonna start leaning their resources towards that." It's a little depressing to see signs of it, but a lot of people exploite this causing more people to feel the same way & pretty soon you have 1/4 of the forums acting like the game is just $hit now because the producers no longer support it. Very few people seem to realize, even if BIS completly cut off communication to the community, OFP would still be a good game, & still better than most games on the market. If you've played games like Rogue Spear, (not ghost recon) where all the terrorists only aim for your head or You can walk flat up against a wall, fire your weapon & the bullet will hit 2 feet away from the barrel. Sure, the graphics are better, but game play is equal in the negatives. For people that don't agree because of bugs, they can go out & buy Cutthroats, by Eidos. Eidos must be on about their 10th? major patch for it by now. The readme's have things like "No really, we fixed it this time for sure". Or gamers can buy World War II Online, Is that game even in it's alpha testing yet? So what if OFP is just mediocre in multiplayer, it's a lot better at MP than WWII online. I never even use it for multiplayer games because I hate seeing that familiar chat message "GOD WHO'S LAGGING.....somebody boot that 56k'er outta here" & please don't mention broadband, I live 40 miles from my isp. So I stick to single player & get frustraited when "the latest in patching technology" changes the AI's ability to see me through a house, 2 bushes, & a partridge in a pear tree. Then nail me with 2 shots from a 3 round burst. I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to relate to some of the reasons why people get so bitter towards BIS, but alot of the angry gamers are just temporary and will move on the the next big game that comes out & then go b*tch in that game's forums. To sum it up, my point is pessimism will never stop, it just keeps revolving as more games are released, so the people who are sick of it should just have a little patience & soon all that will be left is those optomistic veterans.

    LAW vs infantry

I agree, grenades are one of the best weapons for clear areas. Throwing them does seem to help how far they will fly too. If you throw one at about a 45 degree angle, it will go 15 to 20 meters. I've taken out 8 guys before that we're walking in a column by tossing a grenade in the center of them. So by this, it must be possible to injure at least 10 that are in a formation.

    Request- M134 Minigun

Just because the thing can put out 10000 round a minute in real life doesn't mean it would be designed like that in the game. I don't think the G3 or the Steyer pump out in the game what they do in real life. The Steyer's rate is something like 680 rpm in real life, in the game it's gotta be something around 200 to 300 a minute. The G3's a little better, but still I doubt it actually fires 750 rpm in the game.
