I'd think the Armed Assault engine is quite a bit more robust than UT2k4. "Furthermore, I think that there are more issues than this that need to be addressed." The ballistics are the most important part of the game. It controls the combat more than anything! For example, the range that accurate rifle fights occur in Armed Assault is a lot different than in real life. "If I never see the ballistics model changed on ArmA I won't miss anything." You'll be missing a lot. If you've had some time with a rifle, you'd know the ballistics in ArmA aren't true at all. They aren't bad, but other games have done it much beter. From the VBS2 video, it looks like BIS Australia got is perfect.

It'd be awesome if we could find out of any of those ballistics improvements from VBS2 will make it in to ArmA. I also found it nice that the ARs don't spray out spouts of popcorn smoke. -and those tracers! folowing a realistic ballistic flight! Cross your fingers!
-
If nothing else, it'd be nice if the movement was less rigid and tied to the animation of the player. It feels like a lack of control. Good suggestion. I came here to make a suggestion thread, too, but I'll just append it here: Add a camera shake/buck! It's such a simple trick, but it does wonders in games like Half Life 2. Adds to the feel of explosions, tanks firing, etc.

Have you not figured out from the previous releases that BIS patches the other versions up with the added content, bar the few exclusive missions?

I think poor players use bugs to vent their frustration at. Bugs happen, they aren't a big deal. This is a sim. Fun time. A hobby. If some small bugs [that will most likely be fixed] bother you in the context of a large, complex, well made sim - spend some more time outside. You're going out of your way to waste your time and and make this less enjoyable for the whole community. Report bugs once. They'll probably be fixed. Don't split hairs.

I think ArmA needs more accurate bullet drop and more deviation from wind before this happens. Shooting in ArmA always strikes me as too accurate. It's hard to shoot that well in real life!

"Enhance... enhance... enhance" -makes me instantly think Blade Runner. Now I want to watch that movie. Great news. It wouldn't take much to push ArmA from "a much beter Operation Flashpoint" to "the Best Thing Ever." I hope BIS pulls it off.

So, which bearded terrorist in that picture is the bad guy? I lie. Beards rule. *strokes his winter beard*

That is AWESEOME. I'm reminded of Infiltration.

Yeah, BIS totaly raped us, working hard on an improved Flashpoint for 2 years and releasing it as fast as possible to satisfy us. Â Totaly raped, we were. Get rid of that signature and stop being such an attention whore. I like realism. Â I think more component damage would be cool, since vehicles are usualy rendered inoperable by parts failing and not overall damage (health points).

Great to hear. When is the US release slated? It sounds like buying it early online will be worth it if 1.05 is good.

That isn't exactly fair. I bet most of those "no"s came from people who haven't used Steam since the early days of Counter Strike. It's the best online distribution service there is. If ArmA is released on Steam, it'll reach a much wider audience.

Fake conflict, fake country. So, the budget is unlimited.:p Why split hairs over this!? I think it's good to get to play with newer toys. Especialy when CWR is going to fill in the older ones.

I don't think I'll be disapointed. The demo was just this close to good. In advice, a perfect system would have: the apropriate ammount of bullet drop (seemed too little in ArmA); loss of velocity; yawing and tumbling (important to long range accuracy); a difference between ballistic bullets, tumbling bullets, and bullet schrapnel.
-
The weapon handling/recoil, balistics, and vehicle damage were what I saw as lacking in the demo. BIS says they're going to fix them, and if they do, ArmA will be awesome. There is no other game out there today with proper balistics or vehicle damage. It is absolutely needed in this game.

Authentic sound & weapon Mod
KaiserPanda replied to ThePredator's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
As I understand it, the "whiz" is the sound of a bullet tumbling end-over through the air. I hear the same thing at the range when one bounces off the ground. I love that sound. So, I'm pretty sure only tumbling rounds make that sound. That happens after a certain distance, if it skips, or hits something. It'd be cool. -

Waika: Again, confusing actual game features with bugs. The free-aim, where your mouse moves around the screen, is a feature. The weapon movement problems isn't at all tied to incumbrance or degree of motion. When you try to aim in small increments, the mouse "lags" noticably on slower systems (like mine). This isn't about the weapon turning as your turn fast, the actualy movement time after you move the mouse is delayed. What would be easy minor adjustments in aiming in real life feel realy slow and akward because of this.

It's an odd source of inspiration, but I loved the Gears of War active reload when I got to play it on my friend's 360. There's a golf-sim style hit once, twice slider bar when you reload. If you don't hit reload a second time you reload normaly. If you hit it again while the slider is in the "sweet spot," you reload quickly. If you miss the sweet spot, you screw up, swear, and take a while to reload.

I think some people are falsely attributing a bug as a "feature." I've seen this kind of sluggish delay in mouse movements before in other games when the computer is preforming poorly. In fact, I think Red Orchestra had this problem. I wish I knew how they fixed it. It makes it feel like I'm aiming a bag of cement instead of a rifle.
