PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

I have a rather similar system: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz w/ Hyperthreading, 1 GB of RAM and a GeForce 6600GT PCI-E 256MB videocard. Now I'am getting rather low fps on ArmA - with all video settings on very low, resolution 800x600 I can only get stable 35 fps with the latest patch, but in the wood it drops even under 20. Btw, I get about only 1000 marks on 3DMark06 with this system. Getting a brand new system I can't afford right now, so I think that getting a 7900GS is the best choice, isn't it?

I've a simple question: what do you guys think about GeForce 7900GS? I'll stick with Armed Assault for few years and I really don't need a DX10 card, but I only want to run ArmA on high or very high video settings and resolution of 800x600x32bit - no need for a higher one. And this 7900GS card is rather cheap - about 200 euros. What do you think?

    ArmA testing...

Your system is very similar to mine, except the videocard. I own a GeForce 6600 and I'am getting really terrible FPS in ArmA. As the memory and CPU are nearly the same (I have P4 3.0GHz with HT and a 1GB DDR2 RAM), I think that getting a better videocard (for example, a GeForce 7800GT, 7900GS or a Radeon X1650Pro) will help me with the framerates. How do you think? P.S. My system has a clean WinXP installation, only all newest drivers, directX9.0c and ArmA installed, but on all very low settings and resolution 800x600 I get only about 18-30 fps (sometimes, when in a forest, fps drops even under 10). Through experience, I can say that you need at least 40-50 frames per second if you want to achieve the best results in such a military simulator as ArmA.

A nake hand??? How ugly! Don't know - it's some kind of bug or it's really nake!? Anyway, it looks sickening... But all the new screens and vids look very nice, I can't wait for ArmA! Screen

Couldn't find about ArmA publishing in Latvia. As we have some veteran OFP players, I think it would be very nicely if the game will be published here, too.

Any other (ex) Battlefield 2 players?

I played OFP a long time, but in 2005, when BF2 come out, I uninstalled OFP because of it's rather old graphics and tried BF2. It's rather large maps and modern military vehicles and weapons were a bit similar with OFP, but the physics were terrible. Jets fly there above all known physical laws, and the weapon recoil is so unrealistic. But the nice graphics in BF2 compensated the nonsencical physics engine, so I played that game for a while. But now, when Armed Assault is going to come out, I'm so happy because this game will associate realism with a wonderful graphics engine, and, I think, for sure, there will be many BF2 players who will choose ArmA But the way, this was my first post in these forums - hope I didn't violate any rule Greetz, Khaled
