I have lately been growing more and more unhappy with the state of Operation Flashpoint. Do not get me wrong, it is an excellent and very revolutionary game, and I agree with everything that my fellow fanatics say of it. It is the only one of its kind. However, this means that there is no other game of this type to turn to. There are huge flaws everywhere in Operation Flashpoint. I do not write this to inform Bohemia Interactive Studios of these flaws. They are well aware of them. However, instead of fixing them, or even patching them up a bit, they release an expansion with even more flaws and bugs. The patches do not fix the real problems. This behavior mirriors that of Blizzard North studios (with Blizzard acting as Codemasters) with Diablo II and its expansion The Lord of Destruction. It isn't right. If I did not like Operation Flashpoint and did not have much faith in its potential, then I would stop playing it and leave this place. However, I love Operation Flashpoint, and I feel that if Bohemia Interactive Studios really wanted to make a completely realistic simulation, they could do so with ease. I apologize profusely for this. It pains me to criticize this game.

Cybrid, I killed every single unit in the mission you speak of. It took me days to do it, but I managed. Usually, however, I run to the house, shoot everyone quickly, run in the house, and then wait for the fuss to die down a bit before running off to destroy the helicopter base and leaving. It's all good fun. I tend to do this sort of thing on every mission where I am Gastovski.

I wonder what my new screen name should be.

I appreciate your understanding of my position, even if you do not agree with it.

We all know the minor glitches and things which bug certain people (the most obvious is the sound of the suppressed Uzi in Resistance - if you have ever fired a suppressed weapon, you know that they sound more like the MP5 in Operation Flashpoint). However, I am mainly talking about bigger problems. The physics are terrible. You can walk through walls, and tanks can fly. Helicopters bounce endlessly when they crash, and yet one might be saved from certain death by crashing into a forest. All bullets travel too slow even for subsonic rounds. A small caliber (.223 inches) fired from one gun (the G36) does much more damage than the same bullet fired from another gun (the M16). Indeed, it kills with one shot even if it hits a foot or a hand. And yet, a much larger caliber (.50 inches) does not. The flight model is even worse, if that is possible. Some people have expressed that they do not care about this, but if Bohemia Interactive wants to be the creators of a truly realistic war simulation, they should make it at least somewhat realistic, or at least a lot easier (it is far easier to fly in real life). While there is regional damage in vehicles, it is not implemented very well. I did not even know that aircraft had regional damage until I had played the game for many months. Certain weapons do not do anywhere near as much damage as they should in real life. Show me the real life Hind that can withstand several shots from a tank. The water does not at all live up to the standards set by the rest of the game. You cannot swim in it, and you cannot even drown; you just take damage and eventually die. Even a tank can be destroyed within seconds by water. There are many, many points that I have overlooked, but these should give you an idea of what I am talking about.

I simply copy my entire Saved folder. It's located in Operation Flashpoint/Users/[insert your name here].

I've never gotten either a penalty or a reward. In fact, I did not know that Operation Flashpoint even had a semi-dynamic campaign until I looked in the .pbo file for missions and found extra ones that I have not played. What gives?

I am sorry if this has been discussed, but I sifted through several pages of search results. Is there any way to make a vehicle such as a blackhawk or a HMMWV into an ammunition vehicle? What I want is a HMMWV that has a small selection of weapons in the back. I am wondering if it is possible to do this without creating a new vehicle with Oxygen. I have already tried making an ammunition crate and using the "this moveincargo HMMWV" line, and I have tried using a fillammo.sqs file. Nothing seems to work. Can somebody give me a helpful tip please?

A new twist on an old question

I am sorry, I meant that I do not think that it is possible to use the command on a vehicle such as a HMMWV. I just tried that line on mine. It works perfectly in a crate (by the way, thank you for your help and for teaching me about the number trick. I have been copying the line over and over instead of simply typing the number), but not in the HMMWV. -

After searching a lot more, I came across a thread where someone said that this was not possible in Operation Flashpoint version one point four six. I do not have Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. -
Another related thing that bugs me is that I wish that it would not zoom at all (or perhaps only with an option enabled) while in iron sight mode. It is unrealistic. In real life, you cannot zoom in on your target. Call me a masochist, but I want to see this feature done away with. Am I alone in this?

Thank you, Placebo! By the way, I too think that this topic should be sticky.

I think it is supposedly incorporated, although it is not effective enough; don't sabot shells contain depleted uranium?

Something quite simple to make game more realistic
Kermit replied to GFX707's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Actually, the Operation Flashpoint planes do have ejection, I believe. Eject while taking off and you will see what I mean. You do not notice it when you are in the air, but it is there. -
Where in the world is everyone getting the impression that American cars are all manual?

What is cool about this is that once when I was stealing the Hind on the mission Escape, I got in the gunner's seat instead of the pilot's seat, and the enemy pilot got in his seat at the same time. The pilot took off and flew a looped pattern. Every time he flew over the place, I sprayed it with lead. Eventually I ran out of ammo and ejected when he was far away from the base. I won the mission. Usually, however, I take the chopper and destroy everything.

Uh, I am American. My car is manual, my brothers car is manual, and my father's car is manual. The only automatic car that our family has is the stinking van. I am pretty sure that United States military vehicles would tend to me manual.

That's a good idea. It's not too harsh, nor too lenient.

I thought that Counterstrike (horrid game) used animations for the weapon models seen from the first person view and not three dimensional models.

Are there any face packs out that don't suck?
Kermit replied to syco's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hey, I have a blue custom face that is loosely based on Raziel from Soul Reaver. My name on Operation Flashpoint is Little Blue Assassin, another reference to Raziel. It is a "fun" face, and as such it does get me killed sometimes (it is impossible to hide). However, the face and the comments I get ("hey, who's the ugly-ass guy with the blue face?" Hee hee) are worth more to me than the slight decrease in combat effectiveness. -
Knives/bayonettes/hand to hand skills!

For once I feel that a poll would be appropriate. And I vote no. -
She reminds me of a nice girl I know. A girl like that seems too good to waste in combat. However, she could be a heartless bitch and not nice at all. Either way, war is such a shame, really. It's all very nice to play games about and that sort of thing, but in real life... Anyway, whyever women would want to be in the military is beyond me. Forgive me, I digress, falling away from the discussion at hand and rolling toward the cesspool of bullshit that is best overlooked.
