  1. Now that there is a support system in the beta (from the showcase) could we get ambient combat and SecOps modules available in the editor, like in Operation Arrowhead? I love creating a very simple mission with Ambient Combat and SecOps running to keep things 'dynamic' and interesting. If I remember correctly SecOps in Operation Arrowhead rewarded completing objectives with supports like mortars, UAVs, or CAS.

If we had these modules it would really add tons of playtime to the beta for me. I am leaving for basic training and tech school next month, so unfortunately I will not be able to play the retail game until April 2014. I have to get as much use out of the beta as I can to hold me over. ;)

  2. I doubt developers are still reading this thread, but I have some suggestions for ArmA 3 I would love to get a response on.

    1. Laser pointers should be useful for more than just jet bombs/missiles. You should open up laser pointers to be useful for attack helicopters, tanks, other vehicles, and even some infantry portable weapons. These weapon systems can all take advantage of laser designation in many ways, and future weapon systems in 2033 will even more so. Locking laser designation to just LGBs is a waste, while unlocking its true potential will only cement teamwork and cooperation.

    2. Optional (maybe) render to texture scopes. I love the new 3D scopes in the beta, but why not go a step further and use render to texture to zoom in the scope itself, while keeping the peripheral vision unfocused and zoomed out? You have the R2T technology now, and yet fail to utilize it in ways many games before you (red orchestra, insurgency, etc) already have.

This link is an example of what I am talking about, though not using R2T the concept is the same.

Tell me what you think please.

  3. I am creating this thread for mission recommendations, conversations, and promotions. For example I would really like a high quality single player or low player count coop mission, but I have no idea what people would recommend. I have wanted a thread like this since Operation Arrowhead, but only now have I decided to actually make one. Especially with ArmA 3 being in alpha with almost no official missions there is little incentive to keep coming back to the game. I hope this thread will make it easier to find popular, high quality, and fun missions made by the dedicated members of this community.

Please feel free to ask about missions, answer others questions, and promote your own user made missions. I will update this first post with recommended and promoted missions as time goes on. Eventually it would be great to have a sort of user mission catalog here. Sort of like our very own directory to where we can find high quality user missions, with a brief description of each.

  4. I play MP everyday and love it.The thing that draws me in is the much improved movement allowing me some crazy high adrenaline experiences with very little of the death from clunkiness that Arma2 had.
I have never played the alpha multi player. I've always played ArmA/OFP mainly single player and coop with friends. In the alpha there is no single player content aside from the limited showcases, and the coop missions available seem very limited. Everything I see is strange game modes like survival, role playing, and "wasteland" whatever that is. I like Evolution, Domination, Insurgency, Warfare, and other dynamic missions. Anything like that out yet?

  5. Yeah same here. Though I reckon it's intentional that any script errors show up.
I do not think it is just a script error. The intro sequence (birds eye view of a battle) does not play behind the main menu and the "Whole Lotta Stratis" custom mission does not quite work properly.

Is there anything I can successfully play with the latest dev build?

  6. Yes flat desert and most farmland (from what I have seen in real life) is what I am specifically talking about here. I understand uneven and rocky surfaces being simulated in game and quite like how they did that. I made this thread to point out they should fix vehicles traveling way too slow on flat, smooth terrain.

Sometimes while driving off road I will be going about 20 mph maxed out, then I will hit a little patch of different colored terrain and that will shoot me up to 40 mph. Then once I go over that little patch the speed goes back down to 20 mph again. Quite strange. I think this is caused by different textures having different speeds associated with them, and the textures can sometimes be all mixed in with each other causing strange bursts of speed off road.

It should be noted ArmA 3 does not seem to have any of these issues or 'features'. Now it is up to the driver, not the game forcing you to go slower off road. If you fail to yield to the terrain you will get injured, your vehicle damaged, and probably flip over or something worse. I much prefer this system, as it is more realistic and one more thing to consider when driving. "Do I want to be safe and slower, or faster and unsafe? Maybe I will get shot going too slow, but maybe I will wreck if I go too fast." These are all concerns which real convoys and any driver will have to think about. When the game (ArmA 2) automatically dictates what speed you should be going, and 'locks' you to it that is bad.

  7. If I had an HMMWV I would definitely go 50 mph off road in the desert, and I have during driving school in Texas. There is no reason to artificially limit the off road capability of purpose-built vehicles. I was simply using my Crown Victoria as an example, but if I had one just for play I could definitely take it out to a desert at 50 mph. Driving well built, big, and heavy vehicles fast off road will not cause them to fall apart and kill the occupants. If you are in rocky or craggy terrain then I could understand, but flat desert and farmland does not slow you down that much.
