ArmA doesnt support dual core atm...Thanks not exactly true, Its probably better to say "ArmA isnt written to take advantage of Dual Cores"
...there is another thread somewhere about this though.
As for Vista vs XP, Vista does seem to take better advantage of Dual Cores and is written to exploit them. Â Its better than XP's use of Dual Core chips anyway. This should improve performance of stuff runnning on it but you also have to remeber that Vista takes up far more system resources than XP so may well require more powerful hardware.
BUT you should consider the other (alledged) issues around Vista... Security, driver support etc
Personally i'm sticking with XP for a while longer.
Well yeah.. but thats what i meant you can run the game with dual core, it might give you better perfomance than a single core but its not written to actually use BOTH within the game, the dual core can only assist by sharing the background services and ArmA on seperate cores (some say switching ArmA to Core 2 increases performance, others say otherwise lol)

I personally have this:
AMD 64 3700+ @ 2.4ghz
1GB DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 256mb
I run the game at around 15-30 FPS as ive overclocked the GPU from 400-450mhz. Ive recently overclocked to a 500 mhz and temps seem high.. but OK. Ive also just ordered an ATI Radeon x1950 PRO 512mb which is said to be an excellent card for the money (140 pounds).
RAM won't increase your FPS, it may stop the 'popping' of textures and slight smoothness.
I tried overclocking my CPU to see if it would improve my ArmA performance and it wasnt much difference.
I upgraded my GFX card as theres no point upgrading a PC completely right now (or so i feel...) as Vista + DX10 are released next year, meaning next gen cards (like the 8800 GTX) which at the moment are very expensive (400 pounds for the 8800 GTX) and when other next gen cards are released the price will drop substatially. I dont buy an absolute cutting edge PC as i feel its a waste of money to buy the absolute maximum possible, whereas i can get a very high 'mainstream' pc. Therefore i'd suggest for those who are considering of a complete upgrade that you wait till next year, Vista will be released, new memory management, new requirements, DX10 will mean next gen cards, and components will enhance and come down in price

Well ofcourse you cant run a dedicated server on the same machine as you play on... otherwise it wouldnt be dedicated
But you can start a server ingame which is not dedicated, simply go to the master server list and in the bottom right click "New" and then your server will appear in the list as "Smellyjelly on *your pc name here*". Then people will join you on the server eventually.

If this is not a legitmate copy you should uninstall it, delete it and go download the demo. Play it till february and go and BUY the game.

haha this looks cool
Looking forward to it, isnt there anything dangerous in terms of copyrighted stuff? :S

Nice vids everyone ive enjoyed watching them =)
Is there any free game recording software with no limits? Ive tried Fraps but obviously there is a 30 sec time limit on it

Cya Placebo,
Good job on moderating the forums =)
I hope you manage to remain in the community in which you are highly respected.

Personally i dont see the issue, players create videos, the good ones will have a piece of music which 'fits' the video itself, whether or not its to anyone's personal taste shouldnt matter, a good video with a good piece of appropriate music is usually very good to watch and listen to.
But seriously does this warrant a thread at all?

Theres a wishlist somewhere already.. expect a close of the thread lol
But i think those three suggestions are very good lol, pretty much sums up what most people want done.

ArmA doesnt support dual core atm...
Whether or not Vista will improve performance generally for dual core i dont know, ive heard Vista has much better memory management but if you're looking for performance specific to ArmA then theres not much point getting Vista *yet* as ArmA doesnt support dual core

lol yep, the demo has a grand total of 3 maps and the biggest of them all... doesnt work post release of a dedicated server ^^
Ah they'll sort it out eventually =)

Helicopters dissapear if you watch them fly in the sky and reappear short time later. I will make a video about that, if necessary.i get this bug too
I thought it was to do with view distance, i have mine at 500 until i get my new GFX card...

Quote[/b] ]Wheres the military experience in that? :\You want military experience? Â Go join the army and fight in Iraq, how about that for a military experience. Â
This is a fricking game after all, people need to realize that. Â You will never get real military experience from your game monitor, controling a soldier with your keyboard. Â
Its a simulator, you simulate a military experience. Jeez.
If i wanted hexenkessel + corridor ctf i'd go play Counterstrike.
Dudester knows what i mean at least.

Yup this was the one map which really required a dedicated server to play properly... and it doesnt work :\
Fix please =)

A nice gaming rig?
Mousemat would be cool...
Laminated map like some other guy said..
A "Behind the bugs" DVD
I'd never wear an ArmA shirt... lol i dont think clothing will start a new fashion trend :P
Board game might be quite good.. :S

I dunno, ive heard good things about DX10 and ive heard it will increase performance for almost all cards.. There was a nice guide by ATI for DX10 somewhere, looked pretty good... And yes, the interface of Vista uses the GFX card ive heard, hopefully it will 'disable' the interface while gaming... Vista also has much better memory management (once you invest in 2GB :| as vista wants 1gb for itself)
But anyway, why is the 7600GT/GS 'better' than the x1950 pro when the x1950 has more memory and faster GPU??
-
Yeah check the admin has it enabled, when u go into a server ask if the VOIP is enabled.
I would simply recommend you use Ventrilo or Teamspeak, quite often clan dedicated servers will give you a public TS/Vent IP for players to go on

Can i have any suggestions for an AGP GFX card up to £200 for this game?I was thinking an ATI X1950 Pro but i thought i'd ask around to see if there were any better around...
Cheers
AGP? Â
Yes.. AGP lol ... someone built this PC for me and it turns out hes quite a fool :P And im not going to fork out for a new mobo + possibly CPU/RAM just yet... i'll wait till i upgrade to vista + DX10 and stuff for that.
By the way... does VRAM increase FPS? im not sure what exactly the VRAM does... obviously the more the better.. but does it increase FPS or just smoothness or something?
The 7600 GT seems to have a lower GPU speed than the X1950 Pro.. so shouldnt the x1950 pro be better than the GT? :S Damit im confused lol

And now reports that the CTI does not work on a Dedicated Server, causes server + client crash i think.
I have no problems with performance on CTI map... apart from the fact that bodies remain indefinately and where there has been a massive battle i get reduced to under 10 FPS...
They need to limit the amount of time bodies stay... or how many bodies remain in a certain area...
-
Yeah im having the same problem, i wouldnt bother with it to be honest, the VOIP is so quiet you cant hear anyone unless there is complete silence (which in a military sim is pretty lame)

Maruk did say 'it should fix all your problems'
Remember this is not an executable PATCH, just paste it over your original exe in your ArmA demo folder.

Thanks a lot Maruk Knew you guys would pull through in the end. =)

ooo Rifles of the IRA!!! Class map, and a hilarious intro =)
Would be cool to see it in ArmA... Difficult map but fun to play if played right =)
An open letter to the ArmA community.

Im an OFP fan, and an ArmA fan.
Dont get me wrong, these games ROCK.
But some of these bugs are simply unbelievable! I mean every game has bugs, such as occassionally you will get stuck somewhere and hard to find bugs which arent picked up in testing. But other bugs are just so blatantly obvious that in all honesty they should have been ironed out way before release. Such as CTI mode, bugs everywhere, you start the mission, you get a spawn bug, all flags come up representing your base. Dedicated server exe for demo released... CTI mode crashes the server every time. I mean come on... did you not even try loading all 3 maps before decided its time to go public? :\
Dont get me wrong i love the game, i'm going to buy it and im persuading my mates to buy it, but none of them are very interested after discovering that they encounter bugs on every map every time they play.
