  1. Tbh, The 505 games street release date is more of the time that I expect BIS would of liked to have released at. Gives them more time to sort out bugs then.

This German and Czech release really was designed to test the market, most fans where expected to buy it and BIS knows how good a beta testing audience you lot are. Thus, thanks to you it gets bug free.

If you think its a disgrace, or get annoyed by this, then oh dear, what a pitty, never mind. Allow it to be patched, BIS fixes things.  thumbs-up.gif

lol you say that.. but when you read back in the 'expected release date' thread everyone was so eager to get their hands on the game and were complaining about the 'late' release of ArmA wink_o.gif

OFP 1.0 was worse... but ArmA still has some serious issues which need to be fixed quickly smile_o.gif (which im sure they will.. in time lol)

  2. Whiskey streaming data about a bush isnt going to cause you an FPS drop :\

Bushes need optimisation, and they will be optimised. Just be patient.. its not a hardware fault its a game optimisation fault.. therefore wait for a patch... they'll fix it eventually...

  3. Yep that PC should run it very well JW...

And for those willing to tweak...

    1) Defrag regularly, clean out spyware, turn off unnecessary background services

    2) -maxmem=512/1024 (or whatever 50% of your ram is in the arma command line)

    3) 'Systembooster' increases smoothness, disk caches...

    4) Overclock your GPU/CPU (i overclocked my ATI 9550)

Any other suggestions would be useful...

Maybe we should compile some nice tweaks, good hardware combinations and stuff and make a sticky.. would save a lot of time and repeated posts...

  4. I am running an AMD64 3800, 1 gig of dual channel ddr 400 and a 256mb 7600gt and I can run on very high with the view distnace set at 3500.. No lag at all.. If I turn up the distance I begin to see lag... but I just ordered a second card to run SLI so that should take care of that...

What speed is your processor clocked at? 2.4ghz?

Also do you have an FPS reading?

It doesnt seem like a very high spec system to run on very high.. if it does run smoothly then it could be useful for those considering an upgrade =)

edit: oh is the 3800 dual core?

  5. Oops i stand corrected on the price wink_o.gif

But i have heard that the card runs very hot compared to other cards... Or so i have read in reviews (i dont have any links to refer you though sorry)...

And people have been questioning how stable the card will become after long term use and how long its lifespan will be (the higher the temp the lower the lifespan generally)

Thought it is an astounding card smile_o.gif

  6. BIS test it till it goes 'GOLD' this means it gets sent to the publishers.

The publishers then do the final details and decide when it will be released to the public.

Correct me if im wrong though wink_o.gif

    -------------------------------

By the way.. when you 'alt tab' and back again into the game it reloads the graphics engine and clears the cache (hence the receiving screen) and thats why people can get a performance boost from doing this, but eventually it will slow down again as the cache is filled.

Im not sure why people can sometimes not play except for a few seconds after alt tabbing.. it sounds to me like theres not enough RAM/VRAM being used in the game... But it doesnt seem like anyone has a solution or has even identified how the problem is caused as of yet...

  7. Yes the 8800 GTX is a 'next generation' card. It should support DirectX10 due for release with Vista later this year.

The 8800 costs 300 pounds (450 dollars) or there abouts and so is very expensive. Hence why i didnt upgrade to that card and im going to wait for more next gen cards to be released later on this year (as they will be cheaper and hopefully more stable... the 8800 is said to be very hot)

ArmA Mark doesnt collect any system information, it just gives you the mark for your system running the map... which can then be posted to compare to other people's marks.. Therefore allowing you to see whats best.

From my analysis it looks like Graphics cards are the major player in high FPS... BUT it needs a proportionally fast CPU to feed it with what it wants... RAM doesnt seem to matter too much.. though 1GB i reckon should be optimal so that XP doesnt hog too much...

  8. If you want better performance, get better hardware.

And again, as a special present for you:

    Topic title is:

    Quote[/b] ]

    Horrible Performance...

    ...on a good computer, too!

That means, that we have people here with good computers(better than what BIS recommends, hardware and software wise), NOT able to play ArmA.

    Or easier:

    Good computer(very good, very expensive)

    +

    Armed Assault

    =

    - Bad performance.

    or

    - Bad fps after some minutes, very good fps after alt+tab

    ---

    MfG Lee banghead.gif

As i have said, what you name a "Good PC" may still not be 'good' enough for ArmA as this game is ahead of its time...

Yes i agree the engine needs to be optimized, ive said this COUNTLESS times. I have been quite a critic of ArmA since trying the demo.

For those with top of the range hardware and are experiencing stupidly low FPS <20 on a top notch pc say, then there is an issue. But if you look at the first post of the thread the PC which is posted is NOT top of the range and is not over the reccomended spec in all aspects (the CPU is lower).

I'm trying to inform people what i know from what is asked and what is stated.

so once again: Yes the engine needs optimization in terms of performance. But the game is also very demanding because of its GFX, meaning that what some people regard as 'good' is not 'good' for this game due to it being ahead of its time. Therefore i am on topic.

p.s. i love your sig MFG lee wink_o.gif had to chuckle biggrin_o.gif

  9. Look the engine needs optimisation, its common knowledge. Im sure it will be fixed and optimised as the game develops.

BUT people should realise that this game is quite 'ahead of its time'. For example, go to the screenshots thread and look at some of the graphics. Those graphics are very very high definition. Then remember, ArmA uses a 400km/sq island to play on in free roam, with hundreds of soldiers in any one map.

It causes strain on the system. If you want better performance, get better hardware. Patches will refine the settings, but dont expect a dramatic improvement of 10 FPS or whatever... its not going to happen. By the end of 2007 this issue will not be raised as peoples machines will have improved and the game will become more into its time.

Yes, it needs optimisation, NO it is not going to work on low - end PC's unless your willing to give on having the lowest graphics settings and low FPS's.

  10. Well dont expect BIS to get a response of their hardware through to you wink_o.gif They've given us what they think the 'Minimum' and 'Recommended' Specs are.. whether you agree with them or not.

The best way is to use the community... People post their hardware, their FPS / ArmA Mark etc

Yes i have heard the HD is important as a lot of data streaming occurs in this game. Solution to that is get a faster hard drive (imo one of the most irritating parts of a computer to upgrade due to the amount of data needed to be backed up or transfered) and/or defrag regularly. Use a program such as UltimateDefrag to move the ArmA folder and important files to the outside of the HD, increasing data streaming speed.

  11. Yeah i know what you mean Foxie,

Although i dont regard ArmA as a purely 'online game' i do enjoy playing my single player campaigns, missions and single player missions created in editor. =)

I was considering not downloading the SP demo anyway.. as if it was gonna give me a campaign mission i dont wanna play it, i wanna play the whole thing.

Also BIS might be spreading their limited resources too far, they already have to patch the MP demo, release the SP demo, patch the full game and finish completion of the addon creation tools.

But SP demo is already in the works i should think.. so i guess its too late to tell them to stop now wink_o.gif

  12. For 8 players the one with the fastest machine should be able to run it quite lag free within the game without using a dedicated server. If anyone has a half decent spare PC you could also use that as a dedicated server for yourselves which should reduce ping and lag.

If not, you can pay for the dedicated server from a hosting company. Though most hosters compensate for a lot of players instead of 8-16 players.. so you might be charged more than what you need.

For voice comms, the most common programs used are Teamspeak and Ventrilo. I personally prefer Ventrilo as the codecs are much better, with much clearer voice communication.

I've never set up a dedicated server myself im just basing this information off what i know from the clans i have been in and general knowledge around ArmA smile_o.gif

    Hope it helps

  13. This same issue was raised in another thread, he claims to have fixed it:

Quote[/b] ]foun the problem... I got the wrong screen selected... i got

Normal 4:3 but u have to select TFT and everything is fixed

So in your settings try fiddling with the 4:3 + TFT etc depending on what your monitor is. He claims its fixed but this is untested, just thought i would let you guys know to see if it helps smile_o.gif

  14. Get back on topic please or this topic will be closed, some people im sure want to use this thread for its designed purpose.

    -----------------

Use the ArmA Mark Thread to find decent hardware systems: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=55304

Higher the mark, the better. As you can see some systems perform better than others, at lower prices. It seems the GFX card has the biggest role in FPS, the better it is, the higher ur FPS. BUT it relies on a faster CPU the faster the graphics card is, therefore you need to make sure your system is in good balance to maintain an optimum FPS.

  15. Well im not sure about what the SP demo contains.. if its a mission from the Campaign i think i'd rather wait.. unless its like the first mission or something so i can continue it on.. I dont like to play a mission from the middle of a campaign and start again from the beginning when i get the full game...

The MP Demo is being patched, and it will almost certainly be released before Feb 16th wink_o.gif

  16. In answer to your question: Yes, there will be a SP Demo alongside the MP Demo.

The MP Demo has a patch in the works to fix CTI and the various other issues which have been raised. Whether or not the patch will have more maps is yet to be seen, but i reckon its unlikely.

And no i dont know when the MP Demo patch will be released or when the SP demo will be released wink_o.gif

  17. i'd definately expect it after 505 Games release as thats the main bulk of the publishing out the way, few others countries follow and BIS are struggling to get a NA publisher (unless they are keeping silent about the status of finding a publisher)

Hopefully the quality of addons released with Oxygen 2 will help sway some NA publishers =D

offtopic: just realised that you're on my MSN list JW :P I thought i recognised ur name i played with you a few times in OFP biggrin_o.gif
