  1. @Rubberkite, coments like that starts flame wars mate.

After reading more of that book I mentioned in page 1( I´m well hooked) I realized how well the ArmA Harrier can work for my plans. In the book, short take off is practiced in flat fields, and the author say that his taking off "runway" was so ruff that he could hardly see the instruments due to the vibration transmited through the landing gear. I´m thinking on a nice little mission here, and not VTOL is not that important for it anymore, looks like STOVL is the winner here, not need for an addon.

  2. Yes, da12thMonkey is right. Soon, before you know, you'll master that. Try flying inside the canyons in south of Sahrani, that'll teach you after a million crashes and crashes and more crashes.

Quote[/b] ]I'm not english guru but I think that metaphoric or what else is called exist also in english language

I understand you from the very beguining wink_o.gif

    Cya all.

  3. I see.

The reason why I was thinking about this is because of this book I'm reading, "Hostile Skies" by David Morgan, about his experience as a RAF pilot and his experience in the Falklands war.

He mention about the Harriers they used to have in Germany during the cold war, hiding in barns, and other buildings, ready to use in case of an Invasion, but they probably had a nice flat and solid field to be able to do STOVL. Thinking about it, he mention about some of them using the roads as take off strips, this stils like a very good option though.

Thanks guys, this topic can be closed at list somebody have something to say.

    Thanks.

  4. If you want to create your own shortcuts, it's quite important to set properly working folder for the application (root of Arma) and run beta/arma.exe with -mod=beta command line option.

For those people getting the IFC22.dll error or other runtime errors, it may be better to think of the beta patch as an addon rather than a patch in the strict sense. What I mean is that, even after installing this patch, you could still run 1.08 ArmA if you wish, simply by running a different shortcut.

Here's the nuts and bolts of a beta setup, if you want to make your own shortcut:

    http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7962/betashortcutmo5.gif

    1. Ensure that the actual executable being used is in the \beta subfolder.

    2. Ensure that you're calling the beta subfolder in your mods list as you would any other addon.

    3. Ensure that your "Start in" line still points to your original ArmA game path.

I don't know if any of you noticed, but after removing the 1.9 patch I was left with a very handy shortcut from 1.9 in the game folder, transfered this to the desktop and it works perfect, I didn't had to worry about creating a new shortcut, the target is exactly as you state; and yes it says "version 1.11" in the GUI.

I had a quick test on AI bridge pathfinding, and I'm well happy, that was one of my biggest griefs. However, if you just place a waypoint from the AI destination too the AI finish, it will try to find an alternative route other than the bridge, but if you add a waypoint just before the bridge, the AI don't hessitate on cross it, and that's just more than good enough.

Thanks BIS, you just made a happy Spaniard.

  5. Hi all.

After an irreverssible major data loss in my "C" hard drive, I have to restart working from scratch in this mission (Teach me a lesson, I even got another HD installed in this PC)

I been working on it for a few months now, and is a similar thing to this other project from hypno toad.

    The idea is like this:

There are two sides playable, BLUFOR and OPFOR.

Sahrani is completly under BLUFOR and RACS control, SLA have been defeated, but there is and insurgentcy war, meaning that SLA are insurgents, in civilian models, mixing with a population of AI controlled civilians on the civilian side; I'm using the Civilians addon by Mongoose to make things smooth.

RACS are only controlled by the AI,( not playable), and are friendly to everyone. Reason being is that if you kill civilians there got to be a way to punish you, and RACS AI change their mind quick thou, dosn't matter what side do the killing, they'll hunt you for your crimes, lol. biggrin_o.gif

There are constant"Side missions" to be acomplissed by BLUFOR and SLA in order to gain information of the whereabouts of some insurgent/s (for the BLUFOR) or, weapons caches, hides, etc (For SLA and BLUFOR). Ofcourse, this side missions will mostly inbolve the two sides ending on a scrap.

Notice that I'm giving lots of MANPADS to the insurgents, to make sure that BLUFOR is obligated to transport stuff mostly by road, and there will be lots of side missions where "transporting stuff" will be the main thing.

There will be markers, constanly changing, to reflect the percentage of terrain controlled by ider side. Eventually a side will control most of it and the mission will end after a period of time, but I may change the ending conditions anyway.

Bare in mind that this is going to be played all over Sahrani, not just in one area.

This mission would be ideal for an orginezed clan to play against random players, or to test candidates, or whatever.

The thing about building this is that I could get this done faster with help, or if somebody with more experience wants to do this I will apreciate it too, because I'm only just restating to build this now.

Sugestions and help are VERY WELCOME.

    Thanks.

    Juan.

  7. You could also download this GUI and have a look at its guts to see how it works.

If its just for you you could just edit the pics from that GUI with yours without renaming them, it would save you a lot of work, as long as yours are the right format and size.

EDIT: Bugger!! You want the splash screens for when the missions are loading, not the Game User Interphace? Ofcourse, the GUI would be an addon so this would be the wrong forum banghead.gif

  8. Sorry for the double post but I have one more thing that should be detrimental to a final patch.

Trees don't stop a 70 ton tank dead in it's tracks like they do in ArmA. Hell for that matter small trees don't stop a Hummer going no more than 20 mph, so how are they gonna stop an M1A1 going any speed?

    I second that.

Also, I noticed that in single player I never been able to have the sights working in the stryker, but I do in MP, extrange.

Also, I noticed the other day that if you are the gunner in a UAZ and change from gunner to driver, and then from driver to gunner, there is no more sights there to be used.

  9. Narcotics:

Nice, I think it could do with using the SWAT units suporting the DEA, is a nice addon that would look great in that video.

    ArmA Sahrani TV:

Amazing, and nice variation, another video that I would like on my hard drive on HD, any idea where can I get a HD version of this?

    Ta.

EDIT: By the way, I just noticed this in the AMM site

I watched the film so many many many times... This looks promissing.

  10. Thanks Ryan; gotta love this vid.

I wish BIS made an entry in the configuration for "Sport" vehicles to drive like that.

I wonder if there is a way to check the speed and turning of a vehicle to trigger a skid sound bya script. I was thinking about a gear system by using two keys going up and down, so "setvelocity" would be used a lot. I wonder if that's possible.

    Thanks mate.

  11. VOIP should be left to being basic, no one will use it.  And if they do their will always be more better VOIP available (TS/Vent).

So why waste resources when you could be fixing my god damn crashes every 20 minutes!

Is not a waste at all. Ideally, if VOIP or VON works as it should, there is not need for an external program to deliver audio comunications between players, using passwords and stuff; simply, play a MP game and talk, no need to download anything.

Is quite simple, I recon that games like Evolution, or Berzek, that are normally a chaos of players playing solo, will have more team play instead because every single player will be able to comunicate in real time.

VON should be iron out to make it perfect, and I think it should be a main target.

Thanks BIS, have a good Christmas all.
