Imo both of the smaller islands are more like testing grounds like Desert Island was in the original. They load fast and for basic testing of units, scripts and concepts they work fine. The bigger islands take a lot longer to load both in the editor and when loading a mission. For editing related tasks I prefer the smaller islands even if they don't offer the same level of detail.

They usually employ highly customized mission-specific smileys ;) -
That's not the real problem from a gameplay point of view (an interesting challenge to the animators and scripters though), the slow pace of combat would be. It would be too slow for most people, making the target audience too small to justify the investments that are needed. Judging from your join date I will assume you have played one of these at some point: House Divided, Civil War mod, Napoleonic mod. I like the gameplay restrictions/alterations that they bring, but things like 20 seconds (minimum) of reloading a firearm is going to be unacceptable for most players. Just look at reloading magazines in virtually every military game there is. 2-3 times faster than in real life, all to maintain the pace. It would be a niche within a niche. Economically unviable unless you are lucky enough to draw in players that are typically playing history based strategy games and the like.

Special forces all over the world consist of the brightest people with high educational standards quite often only surpassed by a minority of the officer corps. If the only thing a person is good at is pulling the trigger they won't even make it into the preliminary stages of training thanks to the elaborate interviews and testing of personality (not being a completely empty shell of a man with zero emotions who prefers to shoot his way out of any problem), situational awareness, intelligence and psychological state. Special forces operate in a highly dynamic environment that requires constant thought into the state of the mission and adaptability needed to meet mission objectives, keep the team alive and avoid highly damaging political backlash all of this while operating in small teams without support of their own and given the most difficult missions where support may not even be available for reasons of deniability. Then there's stuff like being able to speak and understand several foreign languages, being able to operate and maintain a wide range of equipment and vehicles both your own those of your allies and the enemy's, being cross-trained in several disciplines since the teams aren't big enough to have a double for every specialist task, planning their own missions both prior to the mission and while in the field and being well versed in military theory, working with foreign elements (training indigenous forces) and psy-ops that normally only officers need to know. And besides those elements which can be taught in a class room they need to have superiour fysical standards, shooting skills and tactical knowledge than any other soldier in the armed forces. Pulling the trigger is only a tiny part of their job, but the effects of which often causes the biggest headlines, positive or negative. Completing a mission isn't as easy as killing everyone in your way, and killing everyone in your way isn't as easy as lining up the target and pulling the trigger. Especially in a confined space with friendly elements like hostages and civilians for every shot many additional factors come into play before the decision is made to pull the trigger. These are all split-second choices and they have to be the right one each and every time. -
Not less, but your soldiers gain experience from previous missions increasing their skill which makes them spot enemies easier and shoot more accurate. If they are killed they are replaced with inexperienced soldiers.

The screenshots so far to me look more like renders ...

All artwork that was made by BIS is restricted to BIS games. All artwork that was edited at any point with tools made by BIS is restricted to BIS games. If the textures you are looking for were made by an addonmaker you could try contacting them for the original texture files before they were converted for use in the game. So I'm afraid the answer would be no, it's not allowed.

Terrorist attack in London - Soldier killed with machete
JdB replied to jblackrupert's topic in OFFTOPIC
There we go again, what a joke. Read my post again. I said he summed up the problems pretty well, which hardly 10 politicians in the whole of Europe dare. I never said they have (good) ways of addressing these problems. The very first problem is that no politician in office will admit these problems even exist, better yet they try to play them down. The EDL isn't attacked from all sides because it some of it's members are prone to violence (common among trend breaking political parties as well with social unrest, rioting etc like the suffragete movement and in the 1980's). That they are a vocal reminder of the failure of social and liberal policies of the last 40+ years is. If it were only caused by violence you could rule out the opinion of half of Brittain on a saturday night out on the town. The problem isn't talked about because the immigrant vote is important to all parties. Upset them and you swing the odds in favor of the opposition. -

Also interesting is one of the other videos on that Youtube page, an interview with Tommy Robinson of the EDL. I'm not a fan of the EDL, but he does sum up a lot of the issues that are related to these attacks which the government and media vigorously dispute because it represents 40+ years of failing policy and denial across Europe. -
I had this and was told to use the Autodetect feature of the preferences program. It solved the problem for me. You will need to change settings (resolution, texture settings etc) back to what they were afterwards.

Terrorist attack in London - Soldier killed with machete

Not entirely sure why people feel the urge to start shouting when they hear gunshots, especially when it's so blatantly obvious where the shots are coming from and that they are not actually in danger of getting hurt ... Nice shooting, first two rounds fired from an ackward firing position at a virtually point blank running target without killing the guy  -

I'm afraid not. They're in hospital being treated for their wounds, one is seriously hurt. -

SCO19 that is, it takes time for special response units to be called up same as it is in any other country. British police officers aren't armed so that wouldn't have helped since the perps were reported to have a gun. -
It seems to be from Bundeswehr mod. Don't know if that addon was ever released.
-
The SS troops will be Zombie SS troops, the Americans will be a politically correct proportionate gender and racial mix and there will be a love triangle between one of the SS zombies, an American average Joe and one of the French female prisoners. "The real story" :D

Gun light flash - how to remove or decrease
JdB replied to Lenyoga's topic in OFP : CONFIGS & SCRIPTING
It's hardcoded into the engine (bound to a specific class no doubt), so it's impossible to get rid of without access. -
I've updated the Hescos to version 1.05 which adds the custom icons. They are sized properly to a point where you need to zoom in a bit in the mission editor screen at which point when the separate wall icons touch they will be connected together ingame as well. The other objects are not sized as in real life, but rather scaled to eachother so they only give a rouch estimate of their size. [Download JdB Hesco Bastions] (v1.05) Last picture of an untextured model ... hopefully
-
And try to save as a jpg, 5.05MB for a picture is a lot and more than this forum allows.
-
Yes. Someone I used to work with released one a long time ago. Sadly I can't find the addon anymore though :( There are some objects like that in the LegaWarz pack. http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=4318&newlang=eng ... And you could very easily make some your self of course. It's one of the simplest addons to make ... ;)

I can't recall seeing any ever released. If there is any they might be in one of the Vietnam mods. http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=10665&newlang=eng http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?59685-Vietnam-The-Experience-v0-4&p=2379967&viewfull=1#post2379967 http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=10018&newlang=eng

Why would you think that BIS would sabotage it's own game anyway ... Can't fathom that to be honest ...
-
Have you tried the "ironsight" key "V"? (or whatever you have assigned it to)
-
Not too sure. There are so many variables on the weapons and this would add even more. I don't just have optics but also laser sights, flashlights, handgrips etc. That would take an immense amount of scripting as well as even more individual weapon models. I had a look at them. Sadly there are only three icons, for 1, 5 and 10 blocks so I am going to have to make them myself.
