For me the Alpha is already a lot more playable than ArmA II vanilla release ever was, not to mention the practical aesthetics of the new infantry stances & game flow - tied with physics/PhysX for 1st place for the best improvement, Scuba & Diving being the third. :D If only server CPU tech would get up-to-date - there's danger that Evo, Domi & Warfare, or any other mission, requiring more than 150 AI active at any one time, could become extinct, given current multicore (under)utilisation performance. ---------- Post added at 02:22 ---------- Previous post was at 02:09 ---------- P.S. http://www.youtube.com/user/Arma3official -- Channel went up by 10k subscribers since the 5th of March, could've been a lot higher, had they released vids during these 7 months of radio silence, but I guess overhyping can be bad as well. -
But there is danger that no solution will be found/offered, and we could be seeing the same server performance, and perhaps worse - at release on Altis. ArmA II dragged along ok-ish, but back then we didn't have CPUs calculating complex physics on top of AI.

Good spam post. Haven't you noticed the 41-page sticky thread about Low CPU utilisation? We know it's the same issue that we had in ArmA II with physics simulation added on top. -
Wow, awesome! Are the structures for HQ/factories present in the Alpha? Base defenses? We're definitely missing the statics; not expecting ArmA II Quality gameplay - just something to stress test A3A servers on, and perhaps lay the foundation for the core of your mission for ArmA III. :D My offer is still valid, if you release it this week. :D

Hmm... little port SW - Girna? Camp Tempest could serve as a target - it's a compound w/ a mini-marina, then Mike 26 radar station, camp Rogain North of it on a very flat hill, Agia Marina of course... What else? Maxwell is completely surrounded by trees - could be a CQB encounter? Can you place custom structures/bunkers around the map like, say, in Warfare? You could build up some fort in the open field. Rank structure as priority would be great! -

Should be VERY playable at 1366x768 with a mix of Standard/High settings. I'm running A3A on Standard preset w/ Asus S46C (i5-3317U, 4GB, GT 635M, Win 8). Altho, you may get HDD stutter while streaming in textures with that 5400 RPM drive. -

Physics is simulated ONLY on cpu. There are currently no features that would take advantage of the Nvidia's CUDA engine. 1) Ragdolls & general simulation is a CPU thing; 2) What you're talking about is fluff like EXTRAAAZZ particlezzz & dust puffs that Nvidia likes to advertise a lot. :) The latter is not in the game. (yet?) -

Only due to physics calc that is generated by their activity. Spawn 50 empty cars in motion and you'll get the same FPS drop as 25 cars with AI in them. -

It is false. PhysX/physics simulation is being run wholly on the CPU. -

Well, vehicles lower the FPS even further: max & avgs have gone down. Definitely need multi-core optimisations for AI+physics this time, otherwise Altis will be unplayable even on XM i7s. -

AI & physics, aop. Without PhysX you'd probably take a minimal hit, comparable to ArmA II performance. Run a test with 3 vs 3 squads but with 2 additional vehicles per side to account for the physics simulation, since AFAIK infantry ragdolls become active only during the moment of death. -

Confirmed feature: Co-pilot function in MH9 at least. Main pilot can now "Unlock Controls" in action menu, Co-pilot can then "Take Controls" and be in full controls of the helicopter. Co-pilot has the option to "Release controls" back to the main pilot. -

This. Client FPS is wholly dependent on Server FPS performance with missions w/ AI - has always been so. No idea why the server limits client FPS - perhaps to keep everything in sync? -

I suggest you engage ALT+F4 multiple times all the way to the desktop, till a "Shut Down Windows" tab prompt appears, then hit OK.
