You may want to try a tool to optimize your TCP settings in Windows. I am not sure but I think it is called tcpconfig. Have a look up on the net ... It helpend me to get my connection speed from 8000 to 11000 kb/s to the promised 16000 kb/s.

Try to figure out how much viewdistance is needed and set it to the lowest value you need in the mission. It is done in the init.sqs

Hi, since I upgraded to 102 I can not see any Servers in Gamespy and can not connect to a certain IP. It seems to me that the Arma.exe does not try to open a socket any more. The Windows Firewall does not report Arma trying to connect to the internet. The Arma_Server.exe is reported. Even if I stop the firewall there is (of course) no change. I tried a lot to get it working ... I even reinstalled Arma twice, totally clean ... If I copy the 1.01 Exe and pbos back to my installtion directory it works fine again. Anyone else experienced this? Please help!!! Choppers generally do only attack vehicles. YOur settings work fine in one of my mp missions and should for you, too. There are other threads dealing with this topic .... discussing the behaviour.

Nice post, did not know that yet ... Makes me liking the FM even more. 1.0 was OK for me too. Needs some training but more fun, even as pilot with logistic tasks mainly... Just watched a BO 105 doing very amazing stuff in the air ... <- Video posted somewhere around here. Wonder how the pilot could accomplish that ....

I guess there's always room for improvement but since focus of OFP/ArmA has always been more on infantry combat, I'd say flight model is pretty good after you redefine control mappings so that rudder and bank are not connected. Could you please explain how to do this, shorlty? Didn't find a documentation for that by now.

As a pilot you have the map tied to your leg so you can easily look at it while flying ... But I do support the argument of taking time to read the map as infantry. Uuups, sorry for duplicting this. was to quick to read the next reply ;-)

Don't know what it was ... Just installed the system new from scratch after trying many,many other things. Now it works again. -

I think this is the most important line in the rpt file: GameSpy QR2 error: 5, No challenge value was received from the master server. So.. now I found out, that the patched (1.02) Arma.exe only opnes the port 2304 if I start MP session. My working 1.01 version opens a lot of more ports: 2304 1476 if I start the MPsession and additionally 2305 1497 If I am connected to a server/host. I assume that the 1476 and 1497 ports are gamespy related!? There is no firewall active. If I activate the windows XP firewall there is no report/dialog for access or deny that connection, only with 1.01 this appears. My conclusion is, that the 1.02 Arma.exe does not open sockets on the additional ports and this is the reason for the problem. The question is: Why do only I experience this error? I deleted all gamespy keys (registry) and reinstalled ArmA clean and got new key after starting MP session with 1.01. 1.02 did not recreate gamespy key. -

Hi, I made a MP coop mission today and it seems as if I wasted my time ... The waypoints do not work on the dedicated server (beta 1.01.5099). If the map runs as hosted or in the editor everything works fine. It is not only me who experiences these problems (Other custom MP maps have problems with convoys. Do not start moving or wait a long time on the route). I do not use any scripts. Just waypoints (some with delay) and synchronizations, not even triggers. does anyone know the reason and workaround to get the waypoints working? -

Experienced same in Corazol, tall house at east side of town. You have to try a bit to get through. Go prone n stuff. The door opens only half. More strange is the way to go back down. Cant get through the door even prone. If you go to one side of the square and walk against the wall the 'go down' sign appears and you can use it. Then go down the ladder and try to get out (prone) again. Was really confused when I placed a sniper on the roof ;-) Not usable in MP I guess (Or have to make notes in the briefing ...).

I assumpt, that the nade selection problem occurs if you are in MP session and a player connects JIPpy in your slot .... There are many strange behaviours caused by the JIP feature. It is no use writing that you have to press the 'f' key. It is written in the manual .... ;-) I think the problem is going to be resolved if the JIP is fixed. There should already be a BUG reported in the official buglist, I am not sure now. So this thread could be closed -
Now, some games later I think the only way to reduce the risk of meeting **** in MP games is to select the servers you want to play on well and make extreme use of the kick button and ban lists ... I now, sometimes I am a dreamer ... btw: It is nice to see a lot of guys returning to the game that where 'MIA' ...

I just hope you will enjoy the great BIS games OFP / ArmA etc... What impressed me most (besides of the game/gameplay) when I started OFP multiplayer gaming was the attitude of the community... I do hope and pray this will stay that way! Actually, I am a bit scared of all the negative statements and partially flaming when I read any ArmA forum these days and play on the many servers (Thank you all for bringing them up! out there in the net. It was (almost) always a nice atmosphere with a lot of respect for each other. This seems to change, especially the new 'community members' (Yes, you are a member even if you play public! sometimes show some lack of polite behaviour and respect for others and all the great work and lots of time, love and money that is invested (Servers, Addons, Mods, Troubleshooting for newbies, etc.) to keep the community alive and make it a place where we all can have a good time. So, please avoid causing a bad atmosphere by discrediting others and the things they like, even if you do not like it. Try to say it politely if you have an urge to say something. Simply, please do try to avoid offending each others. I can't and do not want to list all the things that belong to a good (or at least acceptable) social behaviour. This should be common sense (I am not a teacher, only concerned a bit ...). Please think about my words and check it out for you if you'd like to take part in making the ArmA world a nice place to be, where we can have fun or, make it a bad experience.... You may add a note to your personal Rules Of Engagement... So, I hope I could express my concerns and hopes understandable enough (English is not my native language ;-) at least you should get the point I think. I wish you all a good time with ArmA and that BIS is going to do the best they can to iron out what needs to be ironed out, similar to the start of OFP.

Yesterday I experienced a strange weapon selection behaviour (in MP) , too. I had a lot of handgrenades with me and an M4 ACOG or something As I wanted to throw a nade into a house before clearing I was not able to select one. Tried a lot of things to fix it but it was not working for me. Pressing F key only changed the firing modes, no sign of a nade... Action menu did not help, too (e.g. reload nades not possible). Seems to be a temporarily 'bug', or side effect. Would be glad to hear about similar experiences, if it is a bug (and no user error) then we should post it to the official bug list. BTW: I am no noob, play OFP for ages ... So no need for unqualified, or even offending replies! -

I dont have the game yet, but I've thought of just that. It's kinda obvious you wont be hidden in the grass when the grass is not visible from distance. I dont know how a patch would solve that though. Would be nice if it could, but.. Oh nos. There were screenies taken showing alpha blending on soldiers in grass, even if the grass wasn't visible. I take it this feature didn't make it in. Horrible news. I thought it was one of the better new features. Would've given infantry the stealth and ambush potential they deserve in the wilds. I was looking forward to lying in foot high grass and laying an ambush for a convoy or passing squad. . Bad news. Still, having the bushes and trees as visual cover is still ok. It is NOT OK!!! Worst news for me by now, about ArmA. It needs a patch. Otherwise just turn off this useless visual ahifhaipsg. -
Ok, nice, but if you are aiming through the scope, wouldn't your eye be closer, and you wouldn't see all that much around? I have not received military training, nor am I American, so perhaps this is the correct way of aiming, so you don't get hit in the eye by recoil? Just wundering.. This is a CBQ aiming technique using the reflex sight. In CBQ you need to see whats going on in the areas around you. Usually it is used clearing rooms and houses. You can get closer to the sight, I have seen it in some videos. Improves capabilities and realism.

I am d'acord with this .... Don't miss glass. What I do miss is a damage model that causes damage on infantry standing in the danger zone in front of the main gun of a tank or even BFV. There is a lot more coming out of the barrels than just the sabot that can injure dismounted infantry. One thing is the overpressure near a tank firing it's main gun. It should cause some damage and a short blackout with the beeping noise in the ears ... btw, I ordered ArmA today at amazon ... :-) The waiting even hurts me physically now... I better go ans sleep until 11/30/2006 ...
