The G3 is german, thats a pretty third party piece of equipment, the G36 and Variants might be a nice touch for the SFs. The Backfire and Blinder are strategic bombers, countries like france can't afford to maintain this class of aircraft what chance would Nogova have. Supah has there been any discussion of artillery and cavalry?

Good choice of rifle a lot of NATO countries are still disposing of these and it would suggest that the US is not the sole or possibly even main benefactor, which creates a lot of room to manouvre.

Just tried them out (as much as my constantly crashing OPF will allow), they aren't much good on the move in my experience but thats just fine they are ideal for crossing very rough terrain and setting up ambushes for road bound columns as well as being kept in reserve for sweeping out vegetation on behalf of larger vehicles. Some bugs with the GAU-19 model though theres almost no sound for the weapon firing and the driver appears to be mute (a blessing perhaps?), also some sort of rudimentary sight might be nice The transporter is too slick for words as are the crew apart from the seventies slacks? -

Soon my prrrrrrrrrrreety soon, how does the AI handle these? -
These where the first Vessels the Irish Navy operated after they were reformed during WW2 (The fledgeling National army had made pioneering use of amphibious warfare tactics during the civil war but the Naval element was disbanded in 1923) D/Lng now

Crap!! looks like I'll have to start my Tonal Mercenary campaign from scratch to include these fantabulous contrapulations. Could there be a better set of vehicles for bushwhacking Tonali Rebels and Smugglers? I LOVE IT Seriously though best alternative warfare addon yet. -
Yeah haha, ppl who do a little research and think things through or have some defence knowledge are sooooooooooooo pathetic  If Supah didnt want to hear opinions he wouldnt have posted the topic.

Yes they would, might I add that Latvia has made extensive use of second hand or surplus US equipment from BDUs to M16s. In fact as I recall the only thing that distinguished Latvian troops from US at the last major PFP exercise was a tiny little shoulder tape with Latvia written on it. Everyone seems to live in this fantasy world where 3x F-16s at $1000 each = 3x Operational F-16s for $3000 In reality the equation is 3x F-16s at $1000ea + Ground radar (starts at 40million) + overhaul(2m)+ Plus crew training (1-3m) + fast jet supporting airfield (10-20m)= 1-2 Operational F-16s. The same logic applies to any aircraft that is worth operating, MiG-15/17s serve no purpose when you have access to PC-9s which are just as fast, cheaper to maintain and more flexible. To make real fighters viable you need either an extensive infrastructure to start with as is the case of most of the MiG-23 operators, a large force to scale down and cannabilise (as with all European Fishbed operators) and a sufficient return on your expenditure in terms of security. Now in the small terms of Nogova the focus should be on a small cheap but extemely reliable fleet that can be called upon to conduct Vigilance patrols and army coop training all year round, any small country operating a high performance fighter will be forced to leave a lot of the fleet on the ground at any one time, Trainers like the Hawk or even light fighters like the 21 or Tiger can fulfill the vigilance function make it impossible for enemy aircraft to violate Nogovan airspace without an act of war, and also keep the army trained in tasks like directing CAS which might be provided by Allied aircraft in a war.

Yes they would have, whats your point? They still had their own trucks also, whats more you cant make any number of essential repair, recovery, workshop and other technical vehicles appear out of your local Skoda dealership.

Czechs: "Here Nogova, have some of our older equipment." Nogovans: "ok, thanks." Czechs: Would you like some of our obsolescent and inoperable hand me downs that we've used to the maximum possible utility, in order to pointlessly drain your manpower and budget? You see we don't actually have all that big a force left over anyway. Nogovans: Errr no, you can just scrap them you know.
-
The Czech influence would be the reason behind the eastern equipment...not Russian. Does that not have some logic to it? How exactly would the Czech or Slovak republics furnish another airforce? They have limited overhaul facilities any construction of new units still relies on MAPO, RSK MiG, or Sukhoi.
-
All of those other countries cited bought the 23 when it was still contemporary, theres a big difference between maintaining a fleet and starting one, the 23 had already had its day by the fall of the Soviet union.

The Flogger entered service in europe in 1973, it is characterised by excellent acceleration and speed but fk all manouvreability and poor visibility. Its also a very thirsty beast, although popular in Africa it is not a particularly cost effective or flexible aircraft. Only the Kind of madmen currently running Angola or Zimbabwe would still buy them.

I really strongly disagree with the logic that says the modern Nogovan Force should be eastern equipped, the markets did flood with ex soviet equipment after the collapse of the USSR. But that doesnt mean they were stocking Fitters in liquidation stores a sworn enemy of the former USSR would still not be able to acquire useful amounts of kit. The force in development seems ideal for Tonal but not at all applicable to Nogova. Nonetheless I have no talent to offer to a mod so I wish you the best of luck, may you prove me wrong.

First of all most of the ideas, here are for an FIA army which is not what we are talking about, my post was based on research on real nations. Take for instance East Timor which has a population of less than 300,000 their nascent ETDF will consist of around 2,000 personnel. The number of towns in Nogova, the infrastructure that was in place and the high rsk level involved suggests a population of greater than 10,000 something that is likely to expand after a period of oppression. Given the extreme vulnerability of the Island a ratio of over 90 Soldiers per thousand population (Israels Level in 2001 when they though peace was coming) is almost certain. The Equipment I selected is all easy to maintain and being donated free of charge for at least the lats 10 years. Someone asked about the logistical tail, Unlike the US army this is a relatively low tech and light force, also it is not expeditionary in role which further reduces the need for logs and tech personnel. In answer to accusations that the army is too high tech, I'd point to the absence of surveillance radars, ATGMs, AFVs, Modern Recconaisance vehicles (i.e. Sensor based ones) and any sort of NBC equipment. Back to the issue of logisitics and personnel, remember that the fewer types of equipment used the less expensive and personell intensive your military is, no one in Nogova is going to say they dont need an army for a good many years yet, dont forget that they weren't only invaded in recent memory but they also remember trouncing a superpower. The Militia creates ample opportunity for the inclusion of old Eastern and FIA type equipment in modern Nogova campaigns but like BAS' Tonal it is a sense of realism that sets a scenario apart. Tonal is great because with a limited amount of addons plus realistic forces from the various National mods it is possible to create any number of co-existing and interlinking mission and campaign scenarios, something that including a morass of addons for the sake of it will spoil because every force will encounter a different enemy and the whole modern Nogova scenario will lose its credibility and become just another lost addon/campaign pack.

Supah: Rather than having our two seperate airforce ideas, why not have a transitional AF between the two, with an unsupportably large ex-soviet arsenal that the new Nogovan govt has trouble maintaining because of frosty diplomatic relations and therefore is gradually replacing with a smaller Westernised ORBAT although commercially available "new" NATO aircraft like the L-410 could still be. The P-3 is far too big and expensive an aircraft to maintain, similarly the the F-104 is too obsolete (although actually the best fighter in service anywhere for responding to 9/11 style hi-jackings). On the other hand the Mirage III is the kind of aircraft that still gets passed around between third world countries (as is the MiG-23 but any sane government would upgrade its Fishbed fleet instead of maintaining the Flogger, unless they really need its short field performance which isnt the case.)
-
Did you read the real world examples I posted, even Dijbouti has an AF near this size. It is an entirely realistic proposition, defence spending is much easier when war looms, spend some time talking to any Israeli in the street and you'l learn that.

First of all purpose, Finland purchased warsaw pact equipment because it was neutral and hadnt been invaded since WW2, Nogova has been invaded in the 1980s and was freed by a US sponsored force. As for COIN, why would there be an insurgency in Nogova, the resistance movement clearly had massive support and a few hardline communists do not an insurgency make. Nogova was blatantly modeled on the Czech republic but that doesnt mean that the future of Nogova would be the same as the Czech republics? Since the revolution in Nogova was a military one, I don't think anyone would support buying equipment on the basis of appeasing Viktor Troska's killer. As for manpower for my ORBAT, the very nature of a highly motivated conscript force means that large numbers of reserve flying personnel would be included, and reserve pilots and technicians are ideally matched to maintaining light helicopters and aircraft leaving the Full time personnel to manage the more complex aircraft. Therefore even a country with 10 or 20,000 could support my ORBAT especially under threat of invasion. Now for the role, COIN is an unlikely scenario, TT and Recce are real considerations which is why they are well provided for in my ORBAT, border patrol and anti-smuggling operations being a big part of the duties of any nascent state military. Combat aircraft such as AH-1s and Hawks serve the purpose of compensating for a relatively poor army's inability to field sufficient artillery support, (second hand M-60s or T-55s would also be vital as roving FSBs as opposed to offensive manouvre units). Further more PC-7s and hawks can be used to provide a rudimentary CAP capability to prevent abuse of Nogovan airspace. I see no reason to assume that Nogova has any direct political control or dominion of Everon, I'd rather let the FIA mod take the Eastern route, therefore I stick resolutely to a small Westernised Nogovan Military.

Correction HAD 9 aircraft hangars, a hangar building addon is no big deal. Cyprus Air National guard,(2003)(Defense against Turkey) 2x PC-9, 1x BN-2B (Beechcraft style aircraft for utility or maritime patrol) 4x SA 342L (Gazelle) 2x MD500 3x Bell 206L 2x Mi-35 2x Kania. El Salvador: (counter insurgency) 8x A-37B (Jet powered CAS aircraft) 13x O-2A 4x AC-47 (Puff the magic dragon, grandaddy of the AC-130) 7x T-41 (Cessna 2 seater) 1x IAI-201 (STOL utility transport) 1x DC-6 (Ditto) 4x C-47 Turbo 8x T-35B (Trainer aircraft in same class as the Yak-52, SF260 or Bulldog) 4x T-34 (older US made trainer) 7x MD500 27x UH-1H/N 1x Merlin IIIB 5x Ralleye 235. Eritrean Air force: 5x Mig 29 5x MB-339FD (Italian advanced trainer contemporary to Hawk 127) 4x Y-12 (Stol utility plane) 1x Mi-35 4x Mi-17 2x Mi-8 1x Do 228 (transport, seats around 35 passengers, probably used for VIP role) I can give more examples of very small countries airforces if you want. I'd be quite keen to be part a NDF mod based on a western alligned post cold war Nogova, but I think the idea of Eastern equipment will just duplicate the FIA mod.

Sorry I was working on the basis of a post insurgency to modernity scenario, as I said I doubt the USSR would have left any aircraft in a nation so small. My post was made on the basis of a post Troska Nogova, which would most definitely be in the American Sphere of Influence. Look at the examples of Estonia, Latvia and other Nogova-like states they all use large quantities of hand me down or surplus US equipment, including uniforms and personal equipment. As to the size of a proposed NDF, we'd need to know roughly the population size of Nogova, however we can rule out large fighter forces since the Island couldnt possibly cater for a population of much over a million. On the other hand, a battalion or brigade strength army isnt going to deter anyone, in fact given the proximity of the traditional "main enemy" and its size, a system of universal national service is likely to be in place. This would place the active (i.e. Full time and serving conscripts) military personnell required at around an eighth of total population. If we look at it in terms of logisitics and realistic strategic aims, this would mean a highly mobile force with a functioning early warning sytem; if jets where to be employed they would have to be of an extremely robust nature from a storage and maintenance point of view. Add to this the huge logistical tail involved in operating jet aircraft (more so on some of the types mentioned than modern designs like the F-16), it would suggest a very very limited jet capability since the Nogovans could not match the Russian or any other serious AF in air combat or attrition and a larger jet force would be kept on the ground by the lack of maintenance hours etc. To defend against this kind of threat the best response is evasion and lateral thinking, this would depend on affordable low maintenance early warning systems like maritime and border patrol flights, which could well include some jets in the latter role, but probably Trainers (like the Excellent FDF mod Hawk). Beyond that army co-operation would be the main function of any small air arm, therefore observation and resupply by both fixed and rotary wing aircraft (i.e. Cessna Caravan, Bell 206, Robinson R.44) would be required, effective fire support is cheaper on rotary wing aircraft), troop transport and casualty evacuation require medium lift helicopters (elderly ex-ANG AH-1s and UH-1s are being offered to poorer allies as we speak). Then a fast VIP transport would be required for getting the government out in times of trouble. The remainder of AF strength would be taken up in, Technician personnel, Airbase security, Logistics, Comms and ATC personnel. Personally I think a pack like this would be a much faster and and interesting addition to OFP. Orbat: NDFAF: 1. Ops wing N01. Ops Sqn: 7x Cessna 172 (Army Co-op, pilot training) 4x Cessna 408/Skymaster (Utility, Army Co-op) 2.Ops Sqn. 1x King Air 200 or DC-3 (Maritime patrol,Photo recce, Utility) 1x Gulfstream IV business jet (VIP transport) Police aircraft. 3.Support Sqn. 130x Ground and security personnel, patrol vehicles, trucks and support vehicles (including agricultural tractor for towing). 2. Ops wing: 4. Ops Sqn. 4x MD.500 (pilot training, observation, army co-op) 3x Bell 206 (Casevac, VIP transport) 5. Ops Sqn. 6x UH-1H 2x AH-1F 6. Suppt Sqn.130x Ground and security personnel, patrol vehicles, trucks and support vehicles (including agricultural tractor for towing). No 3. Ops Wing: 1. Fighter Sqn 4x Hawk (Advanced training, CAS, CAP) 2. Fighter Sqn. 2x Hawk 4x YAk-52/PC-7 (Intermediate trainer, Army co-op, comms relay, recconaisance, border patrol). 7.Suppt Sqn. 200x Technicians, emergency and logs vehicles, Tractors.

While I'm intrigued by the idea I think if you're being realistic and I'm looking at real world examples here I think a country in Nogovas military and political state would not have maintained an independent air arm prior to independence, therefore taking it for granted that the good people of Nogova haven't got a deep trust of Russia and Ukraine the purchase of MiG or Sukhoi aircraft is somewhat unlikely. In one campaign I have sitting on the shelf I found a perfectly realistic "modern" Nogovan army, the 1985 American troops equipped with Jeeps 5tons, M60A3s and M113s, plus a handful of light helicopters. An airforce in this scenario would either purhcase or be donated more light aircraft (Cessna Skymasters and or Caravans are a very good idea whoever suggested them), and some trainers along the Lines of the PC-9 (probably only one or two, maybe up to 7), if US military aid was still forthcoming then some Bell 205s and AH-1Fs might be present (less than half a dozen). If fast jets were operated they would be old but no on would buy Mig-17s, the few that remain in service were bough tin the 60s when they were only obsolete by 10 years, Chinese MiG-21s or US sponsored F-5s would be the low cost low maintenance fighter of choice for a country in Nogovas position, but only around 6-10 could realistically be supported. Another option would be Alpha Jets or other armed trainers. Good luck, and PM me if you want a list of some of the real world forces I'm basing this on and their ORBATS.

The Missing Models are in the Kmarns Marines and International Soldier d/ls reinstall the Kmarns M136 and you're laughing. Overall the addon is quality but two factors really spoil it for me, one, theres no definition between equipment and uniform so it just looks like one piece ensemble and also the Bush hats are comical looking, they are just too small. The one in Fransdens Avatar doesnt look like that! At the moment these hats really spoil the addon for me, If the textures were a little duller an discernably different between body armour/plce and uniform, it would be great but the main thing appearance wise are the silly hats. The vehicles are really nice but is there any way to increase the cargo spaces in the jeeps to use both the seats in the rear and ideally have a few hangers on I44 style.

Bah why won the weapons pack installer recognise my resistance?
-
Grrrrrrrr Wishful thinking that it would have said so in the readme. I'm going to get my ass kicked for this phonebill, dammit I need a job. Whats the background on this unit, is it a specialist recce gp or is 1st Recon just a generic term. Would they be equipped differently from light or mech infantry?
-
Does it need the Diemaco pack to function, I'm getting the model special message with all units!
